âYernia?â
It was Jennan.
She was glad to see the man she had just met earlier in this shopping districtâs opera houseâs waiting room.
âOh! Jennan!â
When Yernia looked back at him and smiled, Jennanâs eyes turned into down-turned crescents, and he laughed.
âOh, thatâs right. I saw you from afar, but I thought it wasnât you. We were together a little while ago, but here I am.â
âRight. Itâs amazing!â
âWhat were you doing?â
Yernia pointed at the cuff button.
She was in a dilemma on what to choose between silver and gold but not only that.
She also had to pick on what type of designs she wanted.
The cuff button came in all shapesâ-round, a triangle, and a square.
There were so many to choose from.
âIâm trying to buy a gift, but I donât know whatâs better. Thatâs why Iâm here. What about you, Jennan?â
âOh, Iâ¦â
At that moment, a black-haired woman interrupted their conversation and asked, âJennan, do you know her?â
The lady folded her arms over her chest.
Jennanâs face hardened for a second before he smiled upon seeing her.
âSheâs a fan of mine.â
âIâm a fan of you, too. Wouldnât it be rare to find a person who isnât your fan?â
The woman suddenly scrutinized Yernia.
âSo, how far did you go with Jennan?â
The unexpected remark brought awkward silence to the atmosphere.
Frown lines marred Yerniaâs forehead when she asked, âWhat?â
âYou seemed surprised. Are you pretending to be naive? I meantââ
âStop it. Donât do this.â
âWhy? Am I curious? So how much did you get this time?â
Jenan looked back at the stubborn woman who just wouldnât listen.
The woman seemed surprised and annoyed upon seeing her.
Jennan unfolded her arms and whispered to her ear.
The womanâs stiff countenance started to loosen.
She was out for Yerniaâs blood just earlier, and now, she was already caressing Jennanâs back, forgetting about her entire existence.
Then, she left them there without saying anything.
âWhat?â
Yernia was in a bad mood.
How could she leave her like that without saying sorry?
She thought about catching the woman to pry an apology out of her big mouth but she decided against it.
If they engage in another argument again, she wouldnât apologize to Yernia anyway.
Perhaps, she could pretend she had stepped on a pile of manure.
âIâm sorry. Sheâs a bit nasty.â
âJennan, youâre working hard.â
It must have been hard to have a fan like that.
Biting her cheek, Yernia looked at him with sympathy.
âSee you next time, Jennan. Iâll go see your performance again.â
Yernia still had some work to do.
She couldnât afford to deal with Jennan because she still had to pick a present for Cassian.
Itâs a little unfortunate, but it canât be helped.
Jennan did not leave even though Yernia already bade him goodbye.
âWhose present is it?â
âMy husband.â
âOh, you must have been in good terms with the Marquis recently. Thank you for taking my side last time.â
âAre we on good termsâ-â
Well, it wasnât like they were on bad terms.
âI can be so mad that I want to punch him in the face sometimes, but I do like him because I know heâs a nice guy.â
Yernia said seriously as she examined the cuff buttons.
Jennanâs eyes narrowed.
âIâll take this one.â
Yernia chose a silver cuff button.
Then a bright idea flashed across her mind.
âPlease put a jewel in it. Well, I hope itâs blue. I like sapphires, too. I hope itâs the color of the night sea.â
It would be nice to have a cuff button that resembled Cassianâs eyes.
She waited for a little while and it was done.
It wasnât that hard to put the jewelry on the cuff buttons.
Yernia left the menâs  tailor shop, carrying a gift with a beautiful wrapper and a large ribbon tied over it.
She even bought Jennan a cuff button that would suit him.
Jennanâs eyes widened, moved at the surprise gift.
âIs this for me?â
âYes.
âYouâre so sweet, Yernia. I envy your husband.â
Itâs not that much, but she was a little embarrassed to hear the pliment.
She felt good, however.
Yernia, strolling in a daze after giving Jennan a present, looked back at him.
He was still there, walking right next to her.
âWhy arenât you going?â
Yernia was Jennanâs fan, but they werenât close enough to meet in private.
She wanted to cheer for him from afar rather than this close.
She only invited him to a meal once to convey her sentiment as a fan and he also gave her some fan service in exchange.
Wait.
Was this another fan service?
She didnât think so.
This opera singer had pretended to be close to a fan he happened to see on the street but being next to that particular fan all the time seemed not to be just fan service.
âI have to go now. See you.â
Yernia waved as if she had not heard Jennan since she was too focused on trying to get into a waiting carriage nearby.
But Jennan grabbed Yerniaâs arm.
âWait a minute.â
âWhy?â
âThereâs something on your head.â
Jenan approached her, perhaps to take it off.
When Yernia lifted her eyes to check out the hand touching her head, it didnât seem to look like something was there.
âIs there something?â
âI donât know. I must have seen it wrong.â
Jennan took his hand off and flicked her head for no reason.
âBy the way, do you like it?â
âWhat?â
Jenan glanced behind Yernia.
Jennanâs voice grew subtly louder, but Yernia didnât notice.
âDo you like being married to Cassian so far?â
âYes, I like it. If it appears like I donât like it, I really do.â Yernia simply said.
Jennan smiled, covering his mouth.
âI like it, too.â
Yernia was speechless for a moment.
Wait.
Did Jennan mean he liked the fact that Yernia was married to Cassian or he liked Cassian himself?
Yernia didnât approve of what Cassian did to Jennan, but she still liked him as a person, though.
âReally?â
âYes.â
