âJennan! Jennan, wait a minute!â
Yernia followed Jenan down the stairs quickly, and it was hard to catch up with him considering how fast he walked.
She grabbed her dress with both hands and skipped two steps.
Yernia went down busily while breathing hard.
She stumbled, but she quickly regained her balance.
As she descended the stairs, Yernia almost caught up with Jennan, who had already gone quite far.
She grabbed his arm, but couldnât say anything because she was running out of breath.
âPlease donât go.â
âYouâre just my fan. Release me.â
Yernia shook her head as she inhaled and exhaled.
By that time, Jennan went silent.
Yernia held his arm and stood still to cool her feverish face down.
âI know you feel bad, Jenan.â
ââ¦â¦.â
âCassian was rude. I apologize on behalf of him. Iâm sorry.â
Jennan shook his head.
âIâm used to this treatment, so itâs alright. Iâm a little embarrassed⦠but thatâs none of your business.â
âJennan.â
âI sing for money, and thatâs my job,â Jenan spoke calmly.
Unshed tears blurred her vision.
This situation must have happened to him a lot.
How many times did Jennan have to deal with other peopleâs veiled ridicule outright that he had no choice but to ignore it outright or simply detach himself from it?
âIâm sorry that you had to hear that.â
Jennan stared at her before he lowered his head.
She felt so sorry for him.
She didnât even know why Cassian did that out of the blue.
Cassian might have mistreated Jennan earlier, but he wasnât the type to insult someone for no reason.
Still, Yernia hesitated to tell Jennan that.
âCassian isnât that horrible, Jennan. Heâs a nice man, but he can be a little twisted sometimes. He can get a little carried away if you remain silent in his presence.â
ââ¦â¦.â
âHeâs really kind-hearted. I donât think he actually meant the awful things he told you. Did you hear what I said earlier? His pride must have been hurt because it was his first time not being the center of attention.â
Jennan pursed his lips.
âI donât want you to worry about him too much.â
ââ¦Do you love him, Yernia?â
âLove? No!â
âThen, why are you taking his side?â
Jenan raised his lowered head.
Yernia couldnât speak when she saw his wounded expression.
The poor man looked like he was about to cry.
âConsidering how youâre so protective of your husband, I could understand that you think heâs such a good person. The Marquis might have been used to living with that attitude, so I know I look insignificant compared to him.â
âThatâs not what Iâm sayingâ-â
âBut Iâm still upset, Yernia. Iâm used to this kind of thing, but I donât want to appear lacking in front of someone I want to look good. Unfortunately, that special person had taken someone elseâs side. It makes me sad.â
Yernia didnât know what to do.
She didnât mean to side with Cassian.
She just wanted to clear up the misunderstanding between them.
âCassianâs behavior might have been unpleasant. But whatever his intentions were, I just wanted to let you know that he did not mean to mock you maliciously.â
She couldnât tell Jenan that when Cassian just insulted him.
At that moment, Yernia realized it was a slip of the tongue.
âI know youâre trying to comfort me, but in my eyes, you are  taking his side.â
âIâm sorry, Iâm just saying that Cassian isnât that badâ-â
âYou already told me he isnât a bad person multiple times. Arenât you curious to know if I also think the same?â
Yernia shut her mouth.
She knew what Cassian had felt, but she had no idea about Jennan.
What happened today was Cassianâs fault.
âI made a mistake. Iâm sorry.â
âI feel bad and upset. Iâm embarrassed.â
Jennan turned his head to the side and covered his face with his hands.
As she stared at him helplessly, Yernia realized she had very much hurt the singer she admired.
What should she do at times like this?
ââ¦I need to go.â
ââ¦â¦.â
âI need to go, Yernia.â
Yernia decided to send Jennan off for now.
When she nodded, Jennan looked at Yernia with surprise as if he didnât expect her to let him go.
Jennan stared at Yernia for a moment, and soon he turned his back and left her.
Yernia was so confused that she wandered around to clear her mind.
As she remembered Cassianâs countenance earlier, she almost thought he was ready to fight Jenna right then and there.
Cassian shouldnât have known that she had met Jennan.
What had she done?
That arrogant fellowâ
As soon as Yernia entered the restaurant, she heard the voice of an embarrassed employee.
âWhat about this? Itâs better to keep this, right?â
In her way, Yernia had made up her mind.
She wanted to talk to Cassian, but he was nowhere to be found.
Where did he go?
âThe flowers are going to wither, so letâs keep the bouquet for now. The Marquis must have left it behind.â
Yerniaâs head turned towards the employees when she heard the word âMarquisâ.
Were they referring to Cassian?
Two employees were holding a bouquet of roses in front of the umbrella stand near the entrance.
Their expressions didnât look good as they sighed.
