Whatâs wrong with him?
Cassian wasnât thinking clearly.
He was supposed to go slow because it was evident that Yernia would get scared if he blindly took her clothes off and attacked her.
To him, he was kissing someone he was comfortable with.
Stupid Yernia thought this was nothing but âguidanceâ.
Strangely enough, he was satisfied with that.
But whatâs wrong now?
âI feel uncomfortable sharing a room with you, Cassian.â
She lowered her head and he tried so hard to make eye contact with her as she held him.
âIs it because I asked about your future plans?â
âNo. Iâve been thinking about that ever since.â
âWhy?â
âWhy? I know that we are married. But we donât have to sleep in the same room.â
âYou just kissed me. And, now youâre going to pretend you hate me?â
Yernia faltered.
Cassian hugged her waist tightly, and she struggled to escape from it.
âLetâs just hold hands the next time I will guide you. I donât know why I did it, but this isnât it.â
âWhy not?â
ââ¦â¦.â
âI have a reason.â Yernia refused to answer, but Cassian didnât let go.
âYouâre acting strange, Yernia. I canât get used to it.â
Yerniaâs face paled. âDonât you think itâs stranger to do something like this all the time?â
Cassian shook his head a little, pretending to dislike it. âI can control myself well, but itâs getting harder to suppress my desire for you, Yernia.â
âI donât think itâs extreme enough to rush it. I hope you can lower that intensity a bit.â
Yernia said it didnât matter to her, but Cassian refused to agree.
Cassian must have done something to shake her heart, just like she did him.
That must be why she was conscious of herself around him.
He must take this chance to seduce his wife even more.
âGuiding me with your hand will not suppress my powers, you know?â
âBut, youâve done so well with an inhibitor in the past.â
It would be a lie if he said it was enough.
Cassian was a powerful Esper who needed a solid guide to controlling him.
Holding hands would work to some extent, but he needed more than that to calm down.
Cassian had held Yerniaâs hands in the past, but she had no idea that he met with inhibitors to hold his powers back.
This time, she was suspicious of how he couldnât accept holding hands as a method of guiding.
He couldnât admit that he felt much better when her guidance leveled up to kissing.
âI canât live with just holding hands, Yernia. You must have been annoyed that Iâm acting like a beggar. Being an Esper had turned me into this.â
âWhy do you think being an Esper equates to being a beggar?â
âWhy not? I suffer every day because of my condition. I canât even sleep properly.â
Yernia flinched and took a good look at him.
He looked pitiful at the moment.
âI had no idea. When did your insomnia start?â
âEven before we got married. It still happens to this day.â
Cassian had a hard time sleeping sometimes.
There were times when Yernia had accidentally touched his chest, waking him up.
Then, he would end up watching Yernia all night, and she wouldnât even notice.
âLetâs just hug and kiss each other once a week. How about that?â
Instead of merely holding his hand, she offered to embrace him.
Still, he wasnât satisfied.
Cassian wanted to say ânoâ, but Yernia might find it hard to stand by her decision due to her generosity.
He enjoyed getting Yernia into trouble, but he decided to suppress his dissatisfaction for now so that she wouldnât run away from him.
âOnce a week.â
ââ¦â¦.â
âAlright. I will not compromise any less than that.â
Yernia sighed as she reluctantly accepted.
Before she knew it, she was staring at his handsome face with great affection.
Then, both of them holding hands as they headed for the room.
***
It was the first time she knew of Cassianâs insomnia.
She couldnât believe she hadnât slept well since their marriage.
Yernia had given up planting her flowers and tucked her husband in bed.
As Cassian looked up at Yernia, she covered his eyelids with the palm of her hand.
âSleep with your eyes closed.â
âI have so much work to do, but I had no time left.â
âSleep, or you might collapse.â
He was fortunate that he hadnât collapsed yet.
Why did Vasil leave Cassian alone even if he tried to stop him?
If Yernia had been his father, the Grand Duke, he wouldnât have made Cassian work like a horse by telling him not to dream.
She wouldnât even dream about the Duke becoming her father if all he knew in his life was to work.
Cassian had lost his mother and also got married because of his uncontrollable powers.
Indeed his abilities had caused him a lot of suffering.
âHurry up and sleep. Iâll hug you from the side..â
ââ¦â¦.â
âYouâll feel better if you force yourself to sleep even if you feel like you canât. Thatâs how youâll regain your strength.â
He tried to get up, but she pulled her back down.
Anyway, he adored Yernia as his guide.
It calmed him down, and he feared that she didnât share the same sentiment.
Yernia lay down next to him and hugged him.
His heart was pounding so hard and fast he could hear it himself.
Yernia must have heard it too.
âWhy is your heart beating so fast?â
âItâs always like must be because Iâm an Esper.â
Something felt wrong, but Yernia didnât dare argue.
She had no idea what was happening to him because she wasnât an Esper.
Instead, her hand swept Cassianâs back.
She must have picked that gesture from her parents because that was what they would do to make her sleep better.
Yet, the more she did it, his back stiffened even more.
