âYernia, whatâs your ideal type of guy? Â Iâll try to suit myself to your taste.â
Yernia thought for a moment.
Of course, she had an ideal type.
Yernia began to list her ideal typeâs traits and characteristics as she looked at Cassian standing a little further from her.
âI prefer my ideal type to possess any hair color as long as itâs not black. I also want them to have curly hair. I prefer a gentle look rather than a scary face. I want him to wear glasses and being friendly is a plus.â
Yerniaâs ideal type was the exact opposite of Cassian and everyone would immediately notice that once she started talking about it.
Still, she had no idea why her heart would flutter upon seeing Cassian.
When she was a kid, she didnât know she would like Cassian this much.
However, it was different now since she wasnât so young that she didnât know how this worked.
She grew up treating him like a brother and a childhood friend after all the years she spent with hi.
âI think your ideal type is me except for the glasses.â
As Yernia watched Jennan carefully, his curly brown hair reminded her of a poodle.
As he also said, his handsome face resembled Yerniaâs ideal type.
âCome to think of it. Youâre right! I had no idea.â Yernia admitted readily.
She had only been focusing on his stage performance all this time, so she hadnât noted his appearance.
âDo you want to go out with me?â
âHuh?â
âYou told me you donât want to play with fire, didnât you? Iâve never met anyone like that before. Youâre the only person who told me that you liked me because of my singing and not just my beautiful face.â
âThatâs weird. Some of your audiences must be deaf.â
How had Jennan lived?
His opera singing was good.
She wasnât talking empty because he was that talented.
He had the power to immerse himself on the stage so Yernia didnât understand what he was talking about at first.
She couldnât see anything else once she started watching his stage.
âI donât see anything else at all.â
âYou mean itâs empty, right?â
âNo, Iâm telling you that time flies when I listen to your songs and focus on your stage. I didnât think of anything else even after it was over. Youâre so good that I want to see you again.â
ââ¦â¦.â
âI donât understand why others havenât discovered your true worth.â
Yernia liked Jennan on stage but she couldnât say the same when he was offstage once she got to know him well.
Nevertheless, he didnât seem like he was a bad guy.
If Jennan was truly evil, he wouldnât have let Yernia go when she was alone with him the other day in his cabin.
Today, she had learned about Jennanâs living conditions which Cassian warned her about, but it didnât matter to her.
Cassian was a man of reason but he didnât like Jennan in the first place.
Her husband also wanted to keep their reputation spotless so he allowed Yernia to enjoy Jennanâs stage as long as she wouldnât meet her alone in front of other people.
Yerniaâs admiration of his voice and performance was sincere but that didnât mean she cared about what he did in his private life.
âI like your voice so much that I want you to keep singing.â
ââ¦â¦.â
Jennan went silent as he touched his earlobes in what-seemed-to-be chagrin.
âWould you hate me if I wasnât an opera singer?â
âI havenât thought about it, but why not?â
âIâll see you then.â
Was he saying they would meet again once he quit being an opera singer?
Yernia could never understand what was on Jennanâs mind.
She couldnât understand Vihani, either.
Even if her marriage was arranged, she and Cassian have the responsibility to build a family of their own.
Isnât dating while being married considered illegal?
âIâm married.â
âI know. However, Iâm trashy enough to not care whether youâre married or not.â
ââ¦â¦.â
âYour marriage was arranged, anyway.â
Yernia shook her head.
âYes. Even if it was an arranged marriage, I still donât want to do it.â
âIs it because of conscience?â
âNo. I donât want to hurt Cassian. And most of allâ-â
Afraid that he might hear their conversation, Yernia sighed as she looked at Cassian approaching from afar.
âI donât think Iâm ready to like someone else.â
She didnât want to think about anything else.
She didnât even want to know why she couldnât.
âDo you want me to tell you something?â Jennan whispered to Yernia. âI didnât want to tell you, but I change my mind a while ago.â
Yernia saw the corner of Cassianâs mouth twitch when he was near.
The moment he gave Jennan a cold stare, he uttered meaningful words toward Yernia.
âItâs a reward for saying such nice things to me.â Jennan chuckled as he slowly moved away from Yernia after mentioning the word ârewardâ. Then he added with a murmur, âPlease continue to like my songs. I think that will cheer me up.â
Yernia turned her gaze at Cassian.
Then, she looked at Jennan and nodded.
âOf course. I will support you anytime and anywhere.â
