Chapter 14: Second Time
There were only a few days left until I was discharged from the hospital.
I was allowed to walk around the hospital so I didnât spend much time inside my room.
Saito-san wouldnât be coming until the day of my discharge, and Yoichiro and the others said they were practicing, so I left my bed and went out, relieved that no one would be coming.
Of course, I consulted my father-in-law and attending physician, Toru before leaving. He gave me permission on the condition that I wouldnât go outside the hospital and that I wouldnât move around recklessly.
Even though I wasnât in the hospital room, I could only stay in the common room or read a book on the bench on the roof, but it was still a nice change of pace.
It was getting close to dinner time, so I went back to my room. I wondered why the hospital dinner was served so early.
As I was eating in my room, a girl came to visit my roommate.
âGrandma, Iâm here. How are you feeling?â
Hmm? Have I heard that voice somewhere before?
When I looked over, I recognized her. Yeah⦠to be honest, I didnât want to see her. Iâve had conversations with her, but she still saw me crying on the roofâ¦
Remembering the embarrassment of that moment, I pretended to be a stranger.
âOhâ¦â
I heard a voice. It was no good after all⦠I gave up.
âWellâ¦Â hello, Aizawa-san.â (Hiroto)
âHello, Yoshizumi-san⦠Itâs been a while.â (Haruka)
âHaruka, are you friends with Yoshizumi-kun? Come to think of it, youâre both first year high school students.â (Harukaâs grandma)
âAh! Aizawa-san, thatâs not true. We met by chance on the rooftop. I slipped on my crutches and almost fell down, but she helped me.â
âIs that so? Haruka, Yoshizumi-kun is a good boy. Heâs not flirtatious like the kids today, heâs serious⦠he reminds me of my grandpa.â
âGrandma! Stop it! Youâre in trouble, Yoshizumi-san!â (Haruka)
Do I look seem like a grandpa? But, as I had expected, she was one of Aizawa-sanâs relatives. When I came into the room and saw the name tag, I thought âNo wayâ¦â, but I guess I was right. By the way, unlike last time, Ms. Aizawa seems to be in good health. I guess she can speak loudly after all.
Anyways, I was relieved that I was able to cover up the fact that I was seen crying.
âI didnât know you were in the same grade as me, Aizawa-san. We talked about a lot of things, but we didnât talk about school, and I barely even thought about your name.â (Hiroto)
ââYoshizumi-san. Is your discharge from the hospital scheduled to be next week?â
âYes, thanks to you, Iâll be discharged next week.â
âThatâs earlier than my grandma. Sheâll be discharged next month.â (Haruka)
âMs. Aizawa wanted to leave the hospital. He said hospitalization was painful. (Hiroto)
âThatâs right! Grandma was actually scheduled to leave the hospital a little earlier. But she couldnât take it and moved around a lot, making her back worse!â (Haruka)
âI⦠donât know what to say. Thatâs rough.â (Hiroto)
For some reason, I feel as if I was being stared at.
âYou two seem to be close friends, arenât you?â (Harukaâs Grandma)
âUm, noâ¦â (Hiroto)
âOh⦠Grandma⦠itâs different.â
Aizawa-sanâs grandmother was smiling
âItâs been a long time since Iâve seen Haruka talk that much, and you can talk to Haruka easily. Yoshizumi-kun doesnât seem the same as his friends from school, you know?â
Thatâs because Takuma and his friends are reliable companions when it comes to baseball, but when it comes to anything else⦠they are noisy and restless, especially Takuma.
After that, the three of us talked about various things until Aizawa-san left.
