Chapter 28- Golden Moments

Best Friends with the Player

Chapter 28- Golden Moments

Asher's POV

We were down by four points at the end of the second quarter, which in my head wasn't bad since it's only one touchdown to tie it all up. The score is low at 12-8. Usually by half time we would be in the low twenties! This game is intense; it had everyone in the stands standing on their feet waiting for the next move; like chess.

Half time was about ten minutes and no more. It was enough time for us to catch a breath, relax, and go over the next few possible play options. Guys drank Gatorade by the quarts in under minutes from all the energy they were burning.

I watch the cheerleaders do their half time show down with the opposing team on the middle of the field. Turning around I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I put on a dazzling smile on in case it was a hot cheerleader or a cute girl, but it was beyond that because it was Kimmy.

Smiling she stood there with every item of clothing to keep her warm with a small plate in her hands. She still looked adorable as ever. Spencer is the wrong guy for her and she could do so much better without him. I can't believe it took me all this long to feel this way for her; my best friend since kindergarten.

"Hey player! You're doing fantastic out there- oh and surprise!" She squeals delightfully handing me the plate in her hands.

"Hey gor- Oo! My brownies!" She laughs and for a moment, I thought I made her blush but it could be the cold pinching her cheeks. I unwrap the small plate of brownies noticing that she cut them up so tiny that I could just pop them into my mouth.

"Am I good or what." She teases.

"The best." I correct, winking at her.

"And I kept my promise." She points out.

"Thank you for doing that." I notice. How can I be so addicted to these brownies? I swear she's lucky that I don't know how to cook or I'll be getting obese just eating these forever.

"Hey- Oo! Brownies!" Ty shouts trying to steal them from me.

"Yo, these are my brownies. Get your own, King."

"Ash share. It's OK I have more at home." Kimmy assures. I tried to complain but I was cut off by Ty just taking them anyways.

"Shh eat them here. I don't want to share with everyone else." I snicker popping two pieces of heavens' delight in my mouth.

"Ash I made enough for the whole team." Kimmy said wide eye. I'm a guy with a big appetite and an enormous sweet tooth. So let me pig out when I want! Mmm brownies-Oo! Big peanut butter chunk, "Asher, share. At least one for the whole team." She bosses again.

"Fine!" I grabbed another two and so did King.

"Yo did blondie come?" Tyler asks, nodding his head to me.

"If she were it wouldn't be for you." Kim says, turning up her nose. She waves her hand over her shoulder to me before walking back to her seat.

I chuckle at King, turning back around to face the team and share these brownies, "Yo everyone! Kimmy made brownies." It was just like the mall told all the girls everything was free. Everyone came running up to take them. Bye bye lovelies, sorry you can't be in my tummy. R.I.P. They all hollered at Kimmy giving her thumbs ups and praises. Even Coach Dave and Phil were blown away. How could they not, it was like taking a bite out of heavens' cloud!

Huddling up with the whole team the coaches gave us one last speech before heading out to defeat Greyson's Academy once and for all. They're not even going to know what hit them.

"Listen up guys. This is unfortunately, the last game of the season and the last game you'll be playing. This is the last hour of your life. Make it count! In all my fifteen years of coaching you men by far have been the best team ever. Unforgettable. And I'm not just saying that. You men play for Jefferson High; you're a symbolic figure of this school. When you put that jersey on you play for Jefferson High, you're an Eagle! And once and Eagle?-"

"ALWAYS AN EAGLE!" We bombed in loud voices, clapping our helmets.

"Exactly! Never in my fifteen years have I ever said this but I'm going to say this to you. You go out there and kick some preppy boy ass and show them that Jefferson High is a damn good team! Make them eat dirt, make them remember you! Last chance men! Are you ready?!"

"YEAH!"

"Jefferson High! Number one!"

"EAGLES!"

"Now go play some ball! Football!"

*****

I couldn't be happier to have won my last game in my high school year; one that I'll never forget. It was the best emotion to feel that proud, joyful moment, like victory swimming through my blood stream. One last minute touch down saved us thanks to Dylan who got the game winning ball.

It was even a better moment when I got Kimmy to dance with me on the field as the confetti flown around the air, bits of red, gold, and white thin paper getting stuck in her hair. She was still perfect with chapped lips and a red nose and cheeks. Then I noticed Spencer, and the happy moment only faded slightly since him and Kimmy danced and jumped around on the field.

We had a quick five minute victory party down in the locker rooms still laughing at the last minute, picture perfect moment, when King and I dumped the Gatorade on Coach Phil. Everyone said their short good byes meeting each other at the party.

*****

Kim's POV

Somehow we- as in Maddi, Katie, and I- all ended up at my house getting ready for the victory party at Dylan's. Even with a big house like mine somehow it didn't help for three girls to shower, change, and do makeup and hair. We helped each other out, and that why it was hard having three girls in one bathroom.

By the way, dark red lipstick is hard to get off your cheek. You keep rubbing and rubbing and then you don't even know any more if it's the actually lipstick stain, or just your cheek turning red from all the rubbing. Aggravating I tell you.

Katie continued to curl my hair, even after she burnt my skin one to many times. Maddi sat on the counter top as I did her eyeliner and eye shadow a very natural but smoke eye look. It was like a train or an assembly line. Katie would do my hair, I'd do Maddi's eyes. After everything was finished Maddi would do Katie's hair, Katie would do my eyes, and the line would keep going until we were all done.

"It's already nine o'clock." Katie mentions, hoping onto the counter top for her turn on eye makeup.

"We'll just be fashionably late, that all." Maddi mentions, looking through all the colors I had for eye shadow. "You have a lot of nice makeup, Kim."

"Yeah, and I use it occasionally because I have nowhere special to wear it to." I chuckle, pushing a long pair of socks up my soft shaved legs.

"Are you going to wear your brown riding Frye boots or those small black ones?" Katie asks, with her eyes closed. She would know I was preparing to put my riding boots on if she had her eyes open.

"The brown ones. Covers more of my skin so I'm not so cold." I reason, pulling up the other sock so that it hit mid-calf.

"Cool sock, Kim. That's a cool tribal pattern, and it goes with your outfit." Maddi chuckles a compliment when she looks over. I looked down realizing my socks where gray with some tribal designs in maroon. They were pretty cool looking.

"I got you those socks! JCrew." Katie remembers, laughing as we both said, "Men's socks." For my birthday last year Katie had bought me a bunch of long socks- I was in an obsession phase for long socks with cool patterns. Mixed in with the women's socks were a pair of men's socks. Katie couldn't see the difference and bought them anyways. One day when I went to use them the sole of the sock was past my ankle. It was only later when it occurred to me to check the tag that clearly read MEN'S SOCKS- ONE SIZE.

They're still the coolest and comfiest socks I got.

"Well I think I'm ready." I mutter, grabbing my boots in the closet and a small bag for me to carry my phone and other essentials.

"Alright, I'm ready to go. I just need to find that jacket I bought today." Maddi says, leaving the room.

"I'll bring your pants back after I wash them." Katie tells me as I'm zipping up my boots. Katie had found some maroon jeggings in my closet that I had forgotten that I even had. I let her borrow them to go with a white and black chiffon blouse she had bought today. "You would be an even better friend if you let me borrow your Louboutin." She said in her very nice voice, batting her eyelashes in high hopes.

"No." I said very straight forward, "My mom still doesn't know I bought them." I whispered, shaking my head.

"What?" She hushed whispered with big eyes. "You've had those for months why haven't you told her? How hasn't she found out yet?"

"Well she bought Nick that whole entertainment set up to put in his room just to keep him out of the living room so I thought it was only fair to get something back. So I went shopping." I shrugged, shutting off the lights in my room to get a move on.

"Oh my God, you should just show her! I bet she wouldn't even care." Katie says, pushing my shoulder as we walk down the stairs.

"Maybe I'll wear them for Christmas or something." I chuckle, "In front of witnesses so she doesn't kill me. I have nowhere special to wear them anyways!" I reason, looking for a coat to wear in the closet.

"So why did you even buy them?" She questions, putting a hand on her hip and shaking her head with a smile.

"Because they're beautiful." I mumble, wrapping a scarf around my neck before I threw on my coat.

Katie rolls her eyes, yelling up to Maddi whom we were still waiting for.

I want that jacket, I want that jacket it so bad. I thought as Maddi came trotting down the stairs zipping up her coat. When we found out Dylan's address, since I didn't remember from last time, we got into the car and made our way there. I called Spencer, since he wasn't answering my texts, I figured he was trying to avoid going.

When we got there I tried looking out for his car, but there was too many. We were a bit late to the party, it already looked like it was in full swing. Students everywhere. That's the one thing you saw when you walked through the front door. Teenagers that some I didn't even recognize their faces. Did they even go to Jefferson High?

"Hey! You're the new girl, right?" Some guy exclaims, pointing to Maddi behind us.

"Uh, yeah." She mutters, looking at him crucially up and down since he held a red plastic cup in his hand.

"Let me get you a welcome drink. Come on." He offers, ushering her to follow him. Maddi looks to the both of us questionably, looking for an answer out of us if it was ok to go with this stranger.

Teddy Lakes was no stranger though. He's actually a really nice kid. I found it weird though that he wasn't with his girlfriend Sarah. I think they make an adorable couple. They're both tall with light brown hair, Teddy's blonder than hers. They're both caring people and do pretty well in school. I also didn't know they were part of this party drinking crowd. I assumed since Teddy is a soccer captain and Sarah is a field hockey captain. I never pegged Sarah as a drinker, Teddy well yeah, his Instagram posts proved it. Sarah wasn't in sight though, and with Teddy making a move on Maddi I was concerned for my favorite senior class couple.

"Unless you want to upset his girlfriend, don't go." Katie warns Maddi, waving to Teddy as we walked in the other direction. We dumped our coats in Dylan's parent's office and then joined the rest of the party. I saw a few familiar faces once in a while, but everyone else looked like a stranger. I knew it would be difficult to find Spencer here and I'm sure he wouldn't be able to hear his phone ring with the loud music.

Of course though, when you're avoiding someone- like Tyler- you're bound to find them before the people you're actually looking for. I was a little too late on letting Katie know because sure enough, upon seeing his "favorite blond" he threw his arm around her shoulder and pulled her in to the group of people playing beer pong.

"I'm sorry but do I know you?" Katie scoffs, trying to shrug off his arm around her shoulder.

"You've got to give me another chance, blondie." He says, holding the yellow ping pong ball out to her as a token of "forgiveness."

"Not even in your wildest dreams." She snickers, pushing his hand away and crossing her arms over her chest. When I looked over to see if Maddi was ok she was gone. Then I heard a cheer, and saw her at the end of the table with her hands above her head playing with Tyler's group of friends.

Asher should be close by then. I thought to myself.

"I think I just found the most gorgeous girl in the room." Someone whispered in my ear. It was a familiar voice, I knew it all too well even with the loud music. Turning I thought I'd find Spencer, pleased that he actually came, but instead it was Asher. Heat rose to my cheeks, and I was glad that I used blush so maybe it would blend together. "Take the complement, sweetheart." Asher smirks.

I grin, opening my mouth to tell him congratulations on his final high school game, but a brunette beat me to it. Grabbing at the front of his jersey and looking up to him happily, "Come on it's your turn Asher." She says, tugging him in the direction of the game. Is that Erica Paris? She comes to parties? What? That alone shocked me more than her talking to Asher and attempting to be flirty with him.

"Oh I can't." He denied, looking pained almost. "Take my spot for me babe, go on." He encouraged.

She was going to complain again, or try to persuade him into it, but she realized me standing there and gave a big oh, and moved along. I gave her a confused look behind her back and then glanced back at Asher who had a humorous smile on his face.

"So where's your boyfriend." He sneered, drinking what I'm sure was some kind of alcohol from his cup.

"He should be here. Or coming. Wait- Spencer!" I shouted, when I looked over Asher's shoulder. I yelled it one more time, waving my hand to get his attention. He resisted to roll his eyes with me watching, but from the corner of my eyes I could see Asher did it anyways. "Hey, why don't you two go play a game?" I offer, speaking to him as Spencer kissed my cheek. They both gave me their answer in a moan, "Oh great! So you both agree. Go on, get along." I encourage, pushing them towards the table, "Just don't drink too much." I remind him, pointing a finger at Spencer before reaching up and pecking his lips.

*****

It was getting really late. I already received a text from my dad asking where I was an hour ago and I kind of lied. I said I was with a group of friends, which is true, but I told him I was just hanging out at Asher's house with everyone watching horror movies. It actually worked believe it or not.

I really did need to leave though, actually it was more like I want to leave. It was getting boring, the whole being pulled to play this game or play that game. I didn't want to play any game because every game consisted of drinking something alcoholic. Even the punch.

I found Spencer, and Katie, and Maddi and everyone else back to playing the same game they started off with. They had made up some other games, some that I play and was able to pass the alcohol off. But at least Spencer and Asher stayed in the same group and didn't kill each other. "Hey, you want to go?" I ask Spencer, looping my arm through his.

"I guess if you want to." He says, throwing away the cup in his hands.

"And I'll drive." Looking for the keys in his pocket.

"If you're driving me home then how are you getting home?" He questions, tilting his head to the side deep in thought.

"Well who said anything about driving you home?" I smirk, jingling the keys in his face. He chuckles, as I pull him along. I stand next to Katie, wanting to let her know that I didn't need a ride home.

"Alright, I'll text you in the morn- are you kidding me?" Katie mumbles, shaking her head, "That's like his eight drink." Katie tells me pointing to Tyler.

"Well why don't you stop him?" I suggest to her, "You don't need that drink either buddy." I tell Asher, shaking my head. He rolls his eyes at me, drinking it anyways.

"Well I'm not his girlfriend to tell him otherwise." Katie says, shaking her head.

"But you could be a concerned friend that doesn't let him make more stupid decisions." I tell her, shrugging my shoulder. "I'm going to go. Call me when you get home safely." I order her with a hug. "No really, you're cut off." I say sternly to Asher stealing the cup from his hand before he takes another sip. "And no driving."

"Anything else mom?" He scoffs, rolling his eyes at me with an aggravated look.

"Yes, don't get a girl pregnant. I'll call you in the morn- no afternoon." I tell him, ruffling his hair before standing back up to leave. We wave everyone goodbye, pushing through the crowd of people so we could get our coats and leave.

It was colder since the time we had left. So cold I could see my breath when I released a big sigh now that I was out of that party house. Even though it was warmer to keep my hands in my pockets I reached out and held Spence's hand, hoping his fingers would keep mine warm.

"I didn't have that much to drink, did I?" He wonders, his face showing he was thinking very hard.

"Not as much as Tyler, Asher, Dylan and that other boy. Oh, and that girl that was hanging all over Dylan. She doesn't even look familiar." I respond, pressing the buttons on the clicker to show me where he had parked his car.

"I think I parked the car over there." Spence mutters, pointing to the opposite direction we were walking in.

"Now you tell me?" I giggle, walking the other way and pressing the lock and unlock button.

"I think I'm capable to drive Kim." Spence offers, holding his hand out. He was out of his drunken mind for sure if he thought I was going to let him drive.

"Don't even think about it mister. I don't care if you even had one beer, you wouldn't drive." I tell him, pushing him to the passenger side. He grabs my hand, pulling me so quick that I crash right against his chest; pulling me into a kiss. "The keys are not in my back pocket if that's what you're looking for."

"Oh I know they're not in your back pocket." He smirks, pressing his lips again on mine and cupping one side of my face in his hands.

It took a while to get Spencer to sit in the passenger seat, not because he refused to let me drive but because every time I'd mention something about being cold he'd help me "warm up." We finally were able to get in the car though. It was a different side to Spencer that I hadn't seen before. A fun side though. Goofy. Playful. I never really realized it until now, that Spencer acts pretty mature for a teenage guy- not that I mind or am complaining- but when I saw this cheery side of him it made me apprehend that I don't know Spencer all that well; not the same way Maddi knows him.

Maybe it's the alcohol talking, but I didn't mind it. Having Spencer sing along and jam out to a silly Ke$ha song was amusing. I hit every red light possible to be able to record it on my phone. We got to my house and I figured everyone was in bed, being midnight and all and no windows glowing with light. I parked Spencer's car on the other side of the street to make believe it was the neighbor's car. No one would notice anyways.

I tried to keep things quiet. Opening the front door, taking my jacket off, not jingling the keys or my footsteps being too loud. By some miracle of God we got to my room without my parents ever knowing or waking up. Spencer looked excited while I stood there relieved. If my dad caught us so help me God.

"Your bed is pretty comfortable." Spencer sighs, flopping back.

"I can't wait to sleep." I yawn, unzipping my boots and placing them back in the closet. "I don't think you'd fit, but I can sneak in and steal some of Nick's clothes if you want." I offer, talking softly as I stripped out of my dress in the closet. I gave it a good whiff hoping it didn't smell like alcohol or other party elements.

"I think I'm ok." He says, yawning as well.

"Jeans aren't comfortable to sleep in." I mention, throwing a shirt over as I peeked out of my closet to see if he was wearing jeans.

"One night, I'll live." He says, looking over to me, a smirk growing on his face.

"Or we could go pant less for the night." I teasingly challenge, hiding back in my closet. I'm so wearing pants tonight. I don't care how sexy it would be to be pant less, it gets freakin' cold at night!

"Oh you know I wouldn't mind that." He chuckles. I look for some PJ bottoms, slipping them on and searching through my other draws. I come up with another pair of pants, sweats that Asher always wore when he came over. They are, technically, Nick's but he bought them too big so I stole them from him and let Asher used them. Then Asher would wear it when he was around. I washed them since last time, don't worry.

I walked out my closet and tossed them to him. Unexpectedly he unfolded them, a very concerned look on his face, "You typically have men's pants in your closet?" He asks, as I walk to the bathroom.

"I do when they're my brother's." I say to him. "Warning, this pretty mask is going to come off and the ugly one is going to be put back into place." Meaning I had to clean all this beautiful and hardworking makeup off my face.

"I think you're just covering up the prettier one." He remarks, earning the award for the best boyfriend ever.

Thank God I still have the blush on to cover up my heated cheeks.

I washed my face in the sink, brushed my teeth and took out my contacts. Without my contacts I was just as blind as a bat. Ok, maybe a little better but not by much. I didn't want to look like a total nerd and have to result in wearing my glasses.

"Oh look, I found my girlfriend." Spencer jokes. I couldn't tell you where he was, but I assumed he was laying on my bed. Which I know exactly where it is thanks to all the years I've spent blindly searching it.

"Ha-ha." I said humorlessly, crawling under the cover and scooting close enough so I could see his face clearly. "So I've got to ask. What's the big deal about Captain America anyway, like he's no match against Thor? He's got a freakin' hammer for crying out loud and magical powers."

"What the fuck are you talking about?" He says, giving me a bewildered look, "Captain America is such a bad ass. He's a super solider, he has an indestructible shield, he's can never die, he's a hero, he's-"

"Yeah ok, Chris Evan is hot I'll give you that." I joke, knowing I was getting him riled up. "I hope you like milk. Plain though, my mom doesn't believe in artificial sugars. No chocolate or strawberry milk." I tease.

"I guess I'll live." He says warily, another look of concern for the night.

"By the way, the only channel I have on my TV is the Discovery Channel." I sigh, getting comfortable in my bed.

He gives me a disgusted look and then something in his head clicks, "What did you and Maddi talk about on your mall trip?" Stifling a laugh into my pillow I hear him mumbling curses under his breath, directed to Maddi I assume.

"I know all of your deepest and darkest secrets." I say teasingly.

"Highly unlikely considering I don't have any deep dark secrets." He chuckles, "No but seriously what did you and Maddi talk about?"

"Oh just little things that wouldn't interest you." I mutter, "There's a whole lot that I don't know about you."

"Well I could say the same." He responds, turning so that he was laying on his side and facing me. His elbow propped on the mattress to hold his head in his hand.

"Like how you don't know I am blind without contacts or glasses." I put out.

"No, I knew that. You told me the first time I asked you out on a date." He reminds me, of the most embarrassing time.

"Don't remind me. Oh my God, that was the worst embarrassing moment ever to happen." I say, feeling the humiliation all over again. I covered my eyes thinking that thoughts would magically go away if I shook my head, but with Spencer's laugh and adding on I had relieved that day again.

"Alright in return for reminding you of your adorable moment you consider embarrassing I will tell you that when I was in freshman year I walked into an AP English class full of seniors. I sat in the front row for five antagonizing minutes thinking I was part of the class. True story." He told me, leaving me to chuckle.

"That's not as embarrassing as babbling my imperfections to you." I justified, shaking my head.

"Embarrassing for me though." He says, pointing to himself. "Tell me things about yourself that I don't know." He suggest, looking at me patiently.

"I could go on all night." I state as a matter of fact.

"Well the night is still young, there's no school tomorrow, and I always wanted to cross off watching the sunrise with my girlfriend." He sweet talks, knowing exactly what to say some times for me to swoon over him.

All night we took turns trading facts for facts. How I didn't like rap music and Spencer didn't like country. That I enjoyed a good book whereas Spencer enjoyed to watch the movie then go back to reading- if he had time. I wasn't a chocolate lover, but Spencer could talk about his sweet tooth for hours and what kinds of sweets he adored. My secret obsession is with clothes and makeup yet I dress like an ordinary girl (for school). Spencer's biggest secret was that he secretly enjoyed watching The Notebook.

Now he's a keeper for sure.
