Best Friends with the Player

Chapter 25- Hold Nothing Back

Kim's POV

My lips part slightly, eyes narrowing at the blond babe that never took her eyes off Spencer. Her eyes twinkle with happiness and her smile grows wider within the seconds. Spencer has a wide smile to match hers, acting like they're the only two in the room.

He kicks his chair out from under him and make his way over to her, meeting her half way. She held her arm up in the air, open wide, and ready to hug him. They came together in a tight embrace and I couldn't help my eyes landing on her waist where his hands were.

"Who the hell is Maddi?" Katie whispers with a sour look on her face.

"His ex." I spat, biting the inside of my cheek, "From Miami."

"No!" She gasps, her mouth dropping.

"Yep." I reply popping the 'P' roughly.

"Oh my God she's here! Why?" Katie asks getting all defensive for me. Shouldn't I be the one freaking out and asking a million questions?

"I don't know?" I say with a shrug.

"Well don't just sit there!" She whispers to me fanatically. "Get up and get your ass over there and find out. She's hugging your man!"

I look over at her and was about to refuse when I saw them laughing, still holding each other at arm's length. Yeah, I'm going to be one of those girlfriends that's all over her boyfriend because of some girl. Not just some girl though, but his ex. His pretty, blond, tan, Miami ex-girlfriend.

Getting up from my chair I put on a fake grin as I walk over to them, smiling and giggling at each other. Putting my hand on Spencer's shoulder I slightly make him turn to me with a wide fake grin and my eyes almost saying 'hey remember me! Your girlfriend!'

"Oh hey, Kim this is Maddi-"

"Hi I'm Maddi, it-"

"Yeah I know you stopped me in the hall earlier. You told me good luck with Asher and that you felt bad for me. Oh! And by the way he's not my boyfriend. The one you have your hands on, yeah, that's my boyfriend." I babble, interrupting the whole meet and greet thing. They still had their hands on each other. OK can you unhook now? Like seriously clingy, that's my job.

"Oh! You're Kimberly Taylor!" She smiles widely gasping, "Oh my God, Spencer has told me so much about you! I'm so sorry about earlier- you two just looked like- he kind of pissed me off in math, and computer tech, and in between. So sorry, really."

"Oh, no pr-"

"So, what brings you here?" Spencer says, interrupting me as he kept on smiling. You could clearly see the happiness in his eyes, and it stung, it pained me to see him that happy cause I knew that happiness was drawn from her.

"Well my mom got this new job all the way in Australia, and I didn't want to go because I wanted to finish school here in the states. So she flew me off to live with my aunt here, after a very long month of arguing of course. But now I'm here and my mom is there, and you're here!"

"I'm here!" Spencer laughs, squeezing her hand.

"I'm here too!" I add in cheekily with a sour grin.

Maddi glances my way with a nervous chuckle slipping her hands away from his. They both cleared their throats, Spencer putting his hands in his pockets, "So you're living with your aunt? That's cool. What about Benny? Your brother living with you and your aunt too?"

"No, no, he went with my mom. It's easier for kids to start over in a new school. It's just me." She shrugs with a pearly white smile and pink glossy lips.

"It's you. It's really you I can't believe it!" Spencer smiles as if this were all a dream.

I purse my lips nodding my head. I defiantly know where this is going, and it looks like I'm being torn out of the picture. Maddi turned to me with a smile waving her hands in front of me excitedly. "And I can't believe its Kim! The Kim. Spencer has told me so much about you. All good things, really though. Every time he calls he talks about you for hours. He's head over heels for you." She kissed up trying to make her look better.

"Well, isn't that nice." I mutter, grinning to Spencer. I walk back to the table, not wanting to continue to be part of the cafe's entertainment show. I sit back down in front of Katie, rolling my eyes so she'd get the message of how annoyed I am.

"You didn't look happy at all." Katie mentions with a shake of her head.

"Yeah, well try feeling like you're being replaced by a blond beach babe." I argue, continuing to eat my lunch.

"You're still his girlfriend, you're not being replaced." Katie tells me, before turning her head to Maddi.

"Is it alright that I sit with you guys?" Maddi asks, before taking a seat at the end of the table, to the right of Spencer.

"Of course, where else are you going to sit? It's your first day." Spencer answers.

Maddi looks over to me, as if waiting for me to happily invite her to sit, but I just glance at her with a grin and focus my attention back to Katie. Before I could distract myself and start up a conversation with Katie someone slumped into the seat beside me, startling, "Babe, I'm going to need you to put those few remaining brain cells you have and work with me here, okay? Why-"

I roll my eyes as Asher leans over the table to talk to Maddi, coming up with an insult only for her to interrupt him. "Unless you're a pregnancy test, take your negativity elsewhere." She sasses, holding her hand out to him. "This is the pain in the ass I was telling you about." Maddi points out to Spencer.

"Hey, this pain in the ass is actually my best friend." I defend, giving her a nasty look.

"Aw, thanks babe." Asher says, throwing his arm behind me on the chair.

With an annoyed look Spencer looks at Asher and then to me, "What's your deal man?"

"Dude, you left me alone back there. You know I like getting into the drama." Tyler interrupts, sliding in the seat next to Katie. "Hey blondie." He greets with a smile.

"Oh please kill me." Katie mumbles, rolling her eyes to the ceiling.

"He's really cute." I heard Maddi mumble at the end of the table, looking over Tyler. He heard the comment, winking with the audacity of smirking her way even with his arm slung on the back of Katie's chair.

"That's my step-brother." Spencer mutters to her with a crazy look.

"Really?" I scoff, shaking my head at him. It took him three seconds to tell Maddi that secret yet it took him all of a month to tell me? What kind of shenanigans is this!

With a look of realization he looks to me helplessly, "Kim-"

I hold my hand up to him, looking away and shaking my head, "Ty you're kind of causing altercations here. Have some consideration." Asher tells Tyler with a phony look of concern.

"My bad, I'm just trying to work things out with my girl blondie here." A bogus apology coming from Tyler King himself.

"One I'm not your girl and two I don't want to talk to you." Katie argues, paying some attention to Tyler, which he seemed to find amusing.

"Babe-"

"Tyler you've got to learn how to take no for an answer." I advise him.

"Why don't you fuck your boyfriend on my couch, alright?" He barks at me, with a bitter tone, and I could just feel my cheeks heat up.

"That's even low for you." Spencer shouts at him angrily.

"Is that what you didn't want to tell me the other day?" Asher says to me in a dangerously low tone of voice.

"No, get your facts straight, Tyler, and stop spreading rumors." I say angrily to Tyler, my blooding boiling at his accusation.

"Not that it's any of your business." Spencer says, glaring at the both of them.

"Wow, you're such a great friend." Katie scoffs, shaking her head at Tyler.

"I am, but I make a better boyfriend." Tyler says slyly, with a wink.

"You guys need some counseling or something." Maddi pops up, mumbling.

"And you need to back off my boyfriend." I mumble under my breath, rolling my eyes away from her.

"Oo, Kimmy with that affirmation." Asher snickers.

"What did you say?" Spencer asks, trying to hold my hand.

"Nothing." I grumble, pulling my hand away.

"You might want to distance yourself from your psycho ex-girlfriend if you still want to be in a relationship." Asher tells him even after my protest for him to shut up.

"You're not even relevant right now." Spencer tells Asher with an annoyed look.

"Just trying to help you out man." Asher says, throwing his hands up in the air.

"Yeah I'm sure that's what's on your agenda." Spencer scoffs.

"Can you both just get along?" I order more than a suggestion.

"I don't think that's possible for your friend there." Maddi says doubtfully, while looking at her phone.

"You're irrelevant." I snicker humorlessly, looking away.

"You could try to be nice to her, it's her first day." Spencer says.

"Aww look who's coming to the ex-girlfriend's rescue." Tyler coos, just so every knew he was still at the table.

"Can we just stop!" I shout, slamming my hands on the table. I knew everyone's eyes were on me, not just at our table but probably the whole cafeteria. "Before someone says something they can't take back." I mention with a slightly quiet and calmer voice.

"I'm pregnant." Maddi blurts out, looking up from her phone. Everyone looked at her, shocked. Probably wondering why she just revealed that to total strangers. Why did she even have the need to say that? "I'm kidding. I was trying to be funny, clearly it wasn't the right time."

"Jesus Christ." Spencer murmurs, rubbing a hand over his face.

"Relieved it's not yours?" Asher chuckles, looking at Tyler and continuing to laugh.

"Shut the fu-"

"Stop!" Katie yells, looking at everyone, even me, with a warning look.

I piled all of my lunch together and got up from my chair, "Kim where are you going?" Spencer asks, looking up when I throw my trash away and grab my books off the table.

"Away from this crazy table." I mutter.

"Wait, I'm going with you." Katie says, grabbing her things to follow me out. I could see the irritated look on her face that matched mine.

I can attest to this: This has been by far the most interesting lunch in all of my high school years.

Katie and I spent the rest of our time slowly walking the halls. Of course we started complaining and venting about what just happened. That whole table argument was beyond ridiculous! There was also no reason for Asher and Tyler to show up and heat things up even more.

"What was the deal with that stupid comment coming from Maddi? 'I'm pregnant. Oh I was only trying to be funny'-"

"Bitch that was not the time to try to be funny." Katie interrupts, shaking her head. "She was totally trying to just grab some attention. If you ask me she was irrelevant in that argument.

I shake my head again, for probably the hundredth time today and watch Katie open her locker, "I've known her for maybe an hour and I already hate her. I'm also this close," holding my thumb and index finger a sliver apart to show my emphasis, "to slapping Spencer in the face. Asher too, and Tyler. Ugh, Tyler." I groan, kicking my foot on one of the lockers.

"Can I punch Tyler in the face? The ass doesn't know when to back off. He literally tracked me down this morning and followed me from the parking lot, to my locker, and to homeroom annoying me the whole time."

I shake my head slightly, replaying that whole fight in my head again. "I'm so done with today." I mutter, walking away after Katie closes her locker door. I direct her to mine, which is in the hall parallel to hers.

"Want to skip school? I surely could use it after all that shit." She suggests, once we reach my locker.

I thought about it, truly, because I didn't want to deal with anyone after that for the rest of the day, but I remembered I couldn't, "I have a lab today in physics. I can't be skipping that class."

"Oo, good luck in that one." She mumbles. She knows exactly who's in that class with me. The lunch bell rang, signaling that the hallways would now be flooded with students trying to get to lunch and the others trying to leave lunch and get to class.

I forgot that I didn't even need to go to my locker because I had grabbed my books before going to lunch. But I opened my locker anyways, just to kill time. I shouldn't have done that though, because I felt someone towering over me and I knew exactly who that someone was. "Kim I know you're mad." Spencer began, standing behind my locker door.

"I'm not sticking around for round two." Katie denies, raising her hands up and backing away. "Talk to you after Kim." She says before walking away.

I take a deep breath before facing Spencer, "I'm not pushing for round two either." I told him, closing my locker door.

"I agree, but that's not what I'm trying to do." He protests, blocking me slightly so we'd have this conversation here and not on the move.

"Spencer, you didn't tell me that Tyler was your step-brother this whole time we've been dating. Then the second Maddi mention something about Tyler you just throw that secret out there. So now I'm thinking, were you lying to me about having to keep it a secret?"

"Kim I was barely thinking at that table. It just slipped out." He defends.

"Clearly no one was thinking at that table." I mention, holding my books tighter to my chest.

"I told her that I have a step-brother named Tyler and I talked about him and all the horrible things he does because I never thought for a second about the possibility of her moving here. So I didn't think it was a big deal-"

"So she even knew before me?" I argue, shaking my head at him, baffled.

"Kim, I'm sorry I know it's not fair to you-"

"Wait." I interrupted, looking at him doubtfully, "You're what?" I mumble, thinking I might have heard wrong.

"I'm sorry?" He repeated, questionably.

No one has ever said sorry. And by no one I mean Asher. The only guy I ever get into fights with. Even when Asher knows he's wrong he doesn't apologize. Spencer just apologize and admitted that it wasn't fair. Guys actually apologize?

"You really mean that?" I say softly, double checking.

"That I'm sorry? Yes, of course. I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it." He assures. I can tell by the look on his face he was defeated, done with the arguing, and frankly so am I.

I nod my head, walking around him so that I could start a move on to class. We walk together, in silence, down the hall and down the stairs and to my class. Before I walked in I turned to him, not because I expected a kiss or anything, "Alright. Apology accepted."

"Really? You're not angry?" He questions, a concern look in his eyes.

"I'm...annoyed. Not at you, really. I'll get over it." I told him, looking behind me in the classroom to see if the teacher was ready to start.

"Let me guess, Maddi?" He answers correctly with a long sigh. "Well I could say the same thing about Asher right about now."

"Not that I'm defending what he say was acceptable, but it's just his way of joking around." I said, a bit hesitant on how he'd react to that.

"I know you're friends with Asher, but I'm friends with Maddi. Whether or not we like each other's ex's-"

"Best friend." I added in quickly before he continued.

"Ex's or best friend we're going to defend them. So, for the sake of this relationship I suggest that we just drop it." He mentions, moving to the side since he was blocking the way to the entrance of the classroom.

"I guess you're right." I agree, looking back into the classroom. "But can we agree on one thing?"

"What's that?" He wonders, with a slight smirk on his as he leans against the wall beside him.

"You're step-brother is such an ass." I comment with the slightest snicker.

He chuckles, nodding his head, "That I can agree on. I'll see you later." He leans down to touch my lips with his, and that was the end of that... for now.
