Chapter 24- Riptide
Best Friends with the Player
Chapter 24- Riptide
Asher's POV
Monday mornings were the worst, especially when it's dark and gloomy out and all there is to it is snow falling from the clouds. Then all day you're stuck with that feeling that you should have just stay in bed and play video games all day. Instead, I strolled into third period calculous class with Ty as he babbles on about God knows what. I stop listening after we stopped talking about Kimmy.
Jerk, yeah, I know but I couldn't really deal with Ty talking about Spencer and Kimmy together. I still hate the fact that they're together. I've been saying I love you to her for the last six years and do you think she's ever had that same thought planted into her head? No! She still thinks that I'm her best friend or something.
I wonder if she ever felt this way about me when I was with other girls. Probably not, it is Kimmy we're talking about here. If she doesn't think about me that way then I'm sure she doesn't care who I'm with. But still, this doesn't mean I'm going to stop trying. Maybe somehow she just doesn't know it yet.
"Hey dude did you hear a word I just said?" Ty complains nudging me back to reality.
"Yeah, of course." I utter taking a seat in class.
"So where do you think we should go on our double date?" Ty asks with a secret smirk on his face. The word date alone just had me exhausted and it hadn't even happened yet. Maybe it's the weather.
"Who do you think you're doubling with?" I ask slouching back in my chair with an eye brow raised. After what I heard happen at Ty's house I doubt Kate would give Ty another chance for a date. Pretty sure he blew that first impression.
"No one idiot! I wasn't talking about double dates, but you would know if you were listening." Ty shouts, punching me in the shoulder. I guess I deserved it, but I still gave him a death glare for it.
Looking over to the door way a substitute walked in, Mr. Emerson. He's an old grouchy man that everyone hates. He flipped out on me for forgetting my pencil to gym class one freshman year. Gym class! Pencil! Cranking much? I despise him honestly; he's so bi-polar too. Once second he's yelling at you to sit down and shut up- his exact words- and the next he's giving you some crappy old advice about revaluation and how the world is changing and crap. I don't get him. At all.
"You know what Kimmy told me yesterday before I left her house?" I begin to tell him.
He rolls his eyes, and knowing him for as long as I have I know he's getting sick of the Kim topic, but I still wouldn't be dropping it any time soon, "What? She fucked my step- brother. Please, I don't want to hear it." He said, shaking his head and not letting me continue until I was being taken seriously that it wasn't what I wanted to tell him.
"You're brother said the three magical words to her." I said quietly with a frown, and a deep groan as Mr. Emerson started passing out papers. Kill me.
"Let's have sex. Dude, I said I didn't want to hear it!" He groans, punching me in the shoulder again when Emerson wasn't looking.
"Cut the fuck out with punching me." I hiss, punching him back. "I told you that wasn't it, you dipshit." I sigh, shaking my head. I roll my eyes aggravated as Mr. Emerson delivered the paper personally to me. His half bald head with only spots of white hair was shinier than usual, not that I couldn't noticed since it blinded me. His little circle wired rimmed glasses were pushed until the end of his nose as his misty gray eyes watched down on me, "I suppose you will be doing this paper Mr. Knight and not be a disturbance to the class or to me."
I sigh, rolling my eyes still so happy that he remembered my name. How could he not, we had a patchy history together, "Suppose I do. Do I get a pass to leave class early?" I bargain with him. I didn't want to spend the hour with him staring me down with death glares and nasty looks. I get that enough from the women in my life when I do something "wrong."
"No!" He said plainly and bitterly as he pushed his glasses back up to his face.
"Then I suppose not." I smirk, leaning back in my chair as I placed my hands comfortable behind my head.
"Little rascals." He mumbles under his breath as he walks away to pass out the rest of the papers. Turning my head towards Ty I gave him a proud smirk as he just laughs and shakes his head. Probably doubting me that I could still pull it off with the old man.
"So what's the three little magic words?" Ty wonders, leaning forward on his desk.
I snicker, "I'm not surprised you haven't guess it. It's actually not in your vocabulary."
"Ha-ha." He replied bitterly, "What's not in my vocabulary?" He said after some moments of curiosity.
"I love you." It sounded bitter coming off my tongue. Only because I was repeating what Spencer Gray had said to my Kimmy.
He scoffs in disgust, resting his hands behind his head and shakes his head, "You're right. That's not in my vocabulary. Only whipped little boys say those sappy words to girls. I mean, if you say I love football or I love pizza, that's a whole different thing. It's like an exaggerated synonym for like. I don't just like football, I love football." He explains.
"King, you pretty much just explain why people say the word love, but just replace it with your favorite interest or food." I told him bewildered of his stupidity.
"Nope, no I didn't." He said stubbornly. Whatever, I wasn't going to turn blue in the face arguing with him about it.
I start the conversation with King about how winter attire on girls wasn't as fun as spring or (defiantly) summer clothing. Girls always had layers on and it was a pain to take off when you're all hot and worked up and on a mission. In the summer it's so much easier with the lack of clothing. The other pro and con, girls tended to look like they were slacking with their overall appearance when it came down to the winter; as if they were giving up on how they looked which was ridiculous. Some girls were even scary looking. I guess it's just another good reason to look forward towards the summer heat. But for now we're stuck with what we're got.
"Umm, excuse me." A voice calls out from the front of the class. All eyes turned to the front of the class room and this was exactly like I was talking about!
"There is a God." I whisper, looking up to the ceiling happily, thanking the big man up there for dropping his human girl into our math class.
The girl is different, unrecognizable, and unknown. Her golden hair down in waves that reach down to the top of her hips. Her tan skin with little light freckles dotting around her arms and cheeks. Her outfit, though, is put on for the wrong place and time, but I'm not judging. This is exactly what Ty and I were discussing!
Wearing a white, lacy type, cotton tank top that could be a little short on her, ripped denim shorts, and short leather boots. She's one of those colorful girls who wear tons of bracelets and rings on her fingers. A matching leather bag made her stand out like she was from the wrong continent.
Girls take notes. See you can look like that in the winter!
"I'm sorry I'm late. I'm new here so I couldn't find my class on time." She continues her voice louder, not caring that all eyes are on her. Usually all new people are quiet and shy but she didn't seem like that type of girl; she had pride and maybe even guts.
But she's still the new kid. Type to pick fun! Too easy...
"Excuse me, babe. Hi. Aruba is down the hall, out the doors and onto a different plane. Sorry for the inconvenience." I joke playfully still shocked about the outfit she was wearing. OK maybe I'm wrong, she couldn't be like any other person and dress in normal clothes like pants and a sweatshirt? It's almost freezing outside, summer shorts and tank tops were four months ago.
Again... Not that I'm complaining but...
The class snickers and laughs as she stands there rolling her eyes, "You seem just as pleasant as an itchy butthole, babe." She shot back sassily yet sarcastically. Her pretty face had a looking of annoyance, and the I'm-way-better-than-you vibe.
The class 'Oo' us like we were back in fifth grade. I wasn't going to let her be the last one to say something, no doubt about it. She may be the new girl but I wasn't going to let her get off that easy.
"I was going to give you a nasty look, but your face pretty much sums it up." I retorted, leaning forward with anticipation, hoping this would continue a little longer. It's the most fun I've had all day. I heard Ty choke back a laugh as the rest of the class went back to snickering with amused eyes.
This girl's good. I like her. Not going to lie about that either.
"Mr. Knight that's enough!" Mr. Emerson shouted from the front of the room. "Miss, your name please for the class to know."
"Madison Daniel." She replied in her humble tone with a killer look to me.

Kim's POV
I walk down to my locker to put my stuff away so I could grab my books for my next few classes before heading down to lunch. I'm starving and I really need something to eat. Anything sounds good right now, honestly, and it doesn't help too when you pretty much see so many delicious foods on social media. Looking at those pictures made my mouth water and knowing that those foods weren't like that at the cafeteria is a bit depressing, but even the cafeteria food seemed appetizing right now.
Yes, I'm that hungry for public school cafeteria food.
The halls become crowed and packed as everyone tries to get to their destination. As I fix my lip gloss in the tiny mirror that I had in my locker I feel my sides being poked quickly like a taser. I jumped up high in the air with a squeal from the impact. I cover my mouth realizing how loud I was.
Damn that was loud!
Turning around I found Asher behind me grinning like an idiot and the assumed guilty culprit. "Asher Michael Knight you know I don't like when you do that!" I shout at him as I slapped his chest for further emphasis.
"But your reaction is so worth it and funny!" He laughs leaning against the lockers beside me. I roll my eyes, close my locker, as I hand him one of my text books to carry. After that stunt he owes me that much. Screaming that loud in front of tons of students, gee isn't that embarrassing! "Ready for lunch?" He asks as he drapes his arm over my shoulder, steering me there.
"Asher, ca-"
"Is he your boyfriend?" Some random girl asks, coming up to me and pointing her finger to Asher with a nasty look. Who the hell was girl anyways? Boyfriend?! Wait! What?!
"N-"
"I feel bad for you sweetheart. Good luck." She interrupted me without an explanation. Touching my arm she gives me a sympathetic look leaving on the spot.
I looked at her from the back, confused and puzzled in so many ways. Who the hell is she? OK why is she dress for the summer? Its freaking freezing outside, I'm lucky if I stay warm in a hoodie and jeans.
Does she even go to this school!?
"Who the hell is she?" I shout, waving my hand in the air dramatically as we walk down the halls to lunch.
"Ehh, some new girl that I've made a problem with. Don't worry about her, I already categorized he'd as 'a tease'." Asher says as if he'd clarified everything for me.
Well I'm categorizing her as 'the new bitch'.
"What's her name?" I ask as we entered the cafeteria, joining the lunch line with all the other students. The new blond bitch. I adding still thinking about it.
"Uhh, I don't know, I forgot. Danny or something like that." He mumbles picking me up an apple. Yeah I'm starving an apple isn't going to just cut it for me today.
"Like Daniela?" I ask picking up a plastic container that held two halves of a chicken salad wrap.
"No that's not it." He mumbles scrunching his forehead together in his thinking process, "Was it Megan maybe?"
"Hmm, well who ever she is I bet she thinks she runs this school and knows everything and anything already. Do you think I can categorize her as a bitchy slut?" I think that one works a little better. Like really did you see her outfit? Who wears that in the winter! It's a cute outfit and all... I have to admit, but not in this weather!
Asher looks at me half amused, laughing and shaking his head, "You're so much like me now it's scary."
I scoff, rolling my eyes, picking up bag of Cape Cod chips and paying for it even though Asher insisted. I was half way following him to his table when I saw Spencer sitting at our table already with Katie, the girls, and Brian.
"Hey I'll catch up with you later. I'm going to go sit with Spencer and Katie." I say motioning my finger towards the table.
"Aww, sit with me please." He begs, with a pouty of his lower lip on his whiny face. For a seventeen year old he sure acts like a seven year old.
"Maybe the last ten minutes. Besides I don't want to listen to your boring boy talk." I joke, sticking out my tongue at him as I walked over to the other table.
"Hey! I was wondering if you'd show up." Spencer says, kissing me on the cheek as he gets up to pull out my chair. I smile at him pecking his lips and sitting in my chair with my food.
"I was at my locker with Asher," I said feeling the need to explain the current event that just took place, "And then you're not going to believe this, we're walking to the cafe, right, and then this girl comes out of nowhere and is like 'is he your boyfriend?' With this monotone voice and then before I even had the chance to say no she like 'I feel bad for you sweetheart. Good luck.'" I said copying every mood and emotion she showed me to Spencer.
He backs up looking at me with a narrow look and a frown, "Are you serious?" His tone was slightly doubtful, but more curious than anything else.
"Who the hell is she?" Katie asks with the same look I knew was on my face when I heard it.
"I have no clue. She's new I guess, but I don't know why she'd come up to me or talk to me that way. Asher says he thinks her name is like Danny or something. Daniela? Maybe Megan, we don't know." I said shaking my head with a shrug taking the first bite of my chicken wrap.
"Madison!" Spencer gasps, slightly shouting.
"No, no, that's not it. Well I think that's not it." I say, shaking my head as I bit into my apple.
"No, it's Maddi!" Spencer shouts again as if certain; excited.
"Who the hell is Maddi- oh."
Turning my head to meet his gaze, he looks out to the middle of the cafeteria where that rude ass bitch from earlier struts down the aisle. It's the same girl from the hall way that had commented on me and Asher, the same girl that looks like she's ready and dressed for a summer beach party. Heading straight towards us, her face gleaming with a bright toothy smile, her teeth pearly white. Staring at my boyfriend.
Ohh.... That's Maddi.
