"Shaurya... Come to Emerald hospitals, immediately... It's Akriti", Dev's panic-filled tone greeted Shaurya's half-sleep form which snatched the sleep completely off him.
Shaurya immediately rushed to the hospital without his guards as he didn't want to let anyone know about it.
He met Dev in the lobby talking to the doctor. Shaurya waited till the doctor left, before walking to Dev.
"What happened to Akriti?", Shaurya asked, he didn't know what happened to his sister but hearing Dev's panic-filled tone, he got worried and rushed to the hospital, when Dev didn't tell anything on phone, he understood that something is wrong.
"Akriti attempted suicide... If I haven't reached her room with her dinner, we would have lost her", Dev said keeping his tone calm but the worry for his sister is evident.
"Suicide?", Shaurya stood shocked. "Akriti attempted suicide? Why?", Shaurya was still in daze, his head was paralyzed, if there's someone he loved more than his life, it's Akriti and Dev.
"I don't know... She has been skipping her meals often these days, maid informed me just a few hours back when I returned home after my camp, I freshened up and took dinner for her so that I could talk to her but I saw her lying on floor in her own pool of blood", Dev said, wiping his tears.
"Dev... What could be the reason? She... Is it possible that she could have known the truth?", Shaurya fumbled... His heart beating fast...
"No... There's no chance... Who would tell her? Only you, me and dad knew about this Shaurya... Don't even say that... We can't afford it yaar", Dev said and Shaurya nodded
"Then what could be the reason", Shaurya wondered rubbing his forehead. His heart bleeding every second, he was even scared to ask about Akriti's condition, a small cut on her palm leaves him worried for days, and now he didn't know how to handle the fact that his sister was in so much pain.
"That we will know only when she gets to consciousness, we can't even ask her friends", Dev said holding his forehead.
"We can Dev... Call them and tell Akriti doesn't look fine from a few days, and she wasn't even telling you anything, you just wanted to know what's the problem", Shaurya said and Dev nodded
"I'll ask, this has to be handled very carefully Shaurya, this is about her safety, we should stop this from becoming a police case, for now I am involving only those doctors whom I trust", Dev said and Shaurya nodded still in distress.
"Shaurya, she is out of danger now, stop worrying, you are sweating profusely", Dev said holding his best friend by his shoulders.
"What did the doctors say?", Shaurya asked finally gathering courage
"We brought her to the hospital at the right time, there was blood loss but luckily they were able to save her, but according to them, there are chances she could attempt again", Dev said rubbing his forehead. "We need to find out the reason and end it forever to save Akriti", he added
"She just has to say what's troubling her Dev, we'll do anything and everything to make her feel fine... Why did she do this Dev? Didn't we give her everything she wished for? She didn't think about us? Why? What would happen to us? What would happen to me if something were to happen to her?", Shaurya said with tear-filled eyes...
"Calm down, Shaurya. Once we figure out the reason, we'll make sure to eliminate it forever", Dev said, and Shaurya nodded.
The next few days, Akriti stayed unconscious and Shaurya didn't leave her ward until she opened her eyes.
"Akriti... bacha... How are you feeling?", Shaurya asked caressing her hair but as soon as she realized she was alive, she got so aggressive moving her limbs frantically trying to reach out to anything and everything that could harm her.
"Let me die... Let me die, leave me, Shaurya, leave me... I don't want to live... leave me... No... No", Akriti kept screaming pulling off the IV drips, blood dripping from the places...
"Akriti... Please bacha... calm down, I'll set everything right...I'm here... I'm here... DOCTOR... DOCTOR...", Shaurya screamed for doctor... "Akriti... please... bacha... bhai would die if something happens to you, please beta... calm down... I'll do anything set things right... anything beta, anything", Shaurya kept saying, screaming for the doctor, and after 5 minutes, doctors stormed in injecting Akriti with sedatives and bringing her to rest.
The doctors left after treating her, Shaurya dropped, and the tears he was trying to hold till now dropped freely. Dev rushed inside seeing the commotion and at the sight of his best friend on his knees, shoulders slumped, Dev quickly shut the door of the ward, he looked at his sister who is lying on the bed after sedation, his eyes teared up at her sight.
"S.. She tried to kill herself and I couldn't stop her... It's hurting dev, it's hurting so much, I feel so incompetent... So useless same like I felt years ago... When she was just days old", Shaurya said, Dev dropped to the floor taking his devastated friend into his arms.
"Shaurya... Handle yourself... She is safe, Akriti is safe, we won't let anything happen to our sister... We are together in this and you very well know when we are together, we will never lose", Dev consoled his best friend.
"I... I still fear losing her Dev... It's been about 2 decades but I still fear someone harming her...", Shaurya said and Dev knew how sensitive Shaurya is when it came to their sister, his sister.
Akriti was born Akriti Virendar Singh Shekhawat, Shaurya was so happy to welcome his sister but just a day after his mother returned home with the baby, there were several fights between his parents. He heard one such fight.
"This is all your fault, you gave birth to a girl", his father screamed
"How would I know it would be a girl? If I knew I wouldn't have been so careful during my pregnancy, I thought it's a son...", his mother replied shocking him.
"Shut up", his father screamed again...
"This is all because of you, despite knowing the consequences of having a daughter, you got greedy to have one more son", His mother accused his father.
"Yes, what if Shaurya didn't want to succeed me in politics, who would be my successor then", his father answered
"But we got a daughter, now think about what to do, how would you convince Param?", she asked.
Param is a powerful local goon who loaned big chunk of money to Shaurya's father, and when he came to ask it back, they had no money, definitely not that much.
Param's 7-year old son is born physically handicapped and when Virendar said he couldn't return the money, Param got really upset and threatened Shaurya's parents to return the money within a few months.
After series of discussions, Param who was crazy for gambling this time gambled with Virendar's future.
He said if Virendar had a son again, his loan would be written off, but if he had a daughter, he had to get her married to Param's son, and also write off all his(Virendar's) property to his son. Virendar agreed to that ridiculous deal as he was intoxicated in alcohol.
"We have to get her married and write off all our properties to him only if I have a daughter, not a 'dead daughter' ", Virendar said, Shaurya's feet and palms became cold hearing his father. He expected his mother to refute though her expressions didn't give him the hope, still his young heart hoped of it.
"Will this work? What if Param forces us to pay back?", Shobha Shekhawat asked mercilessly
"The agreement has only two situations mentioned, one if we have a daughter, second is when we don't, if we don't, we lose nothing", Virendar said and Shobha nodded.
"We can bury her and ask the doctor to testify that she was born dead", Shobha suggested and Virendar nodded.
"That's what I thought, I already spoke to the doctor, don't worry, first let me check on Shaurya, he was excited to meet the child, let me make him sleep first... He is our only hope now, we should deal with him carefully", Virendar said and Shobha nodded giving a disgusting look to the child in her hand. The lady didn't even have the courtesy that it's her own child she is detesting so much and is planning to kill.
Shaurya's heart broke for his little sister. What did she do to deserve such parents. The little boy determined to save his sister from the venomous people he till then referred as parents.
Shaurya ran to Mrs. Sudha but unfortunately she wasn't there at home that night, their gardener found Shaurya who was sitting on the floor crying, feeling helpless. When he approached Shaurya with love, the little boy told him everything, the elderly man promised to help Shaurya save the little baby.
He took the baby when Shaurya's parents were busy in making sure he was asleep before they started their plan.
Shaurya ran with his baby sister determined to save her and after 2 hours of strenuous run, barefoot, he reached Dev's house. Dev's father was getting inside his car to the airport when he saw Shaurya there.
Dev's father, Rajnath took the baby from Shaurya's hands and took care of her, while calming Shaurya, who looked extremely scared, he wasn't ready to leave his sister or give her in Rajnath's arms but when she started crying and he promised to feed her milk, Shaurya gave her to him.
After an hour, Shaurya finally narrated everything to Dev and his father who were stunned at the revelation.
Dev's mother fell sick after giving birth to Dev, so his father was the one who took care of little Dev while his wife was taking treatment in the US. Shaurya begged Dev's father to take in his sister and finally after hours of discussion, he agreed and with his influence, he created the baby to be his, while Shaurya made the gardener lie that the baby fell in the well. Dev's father brought a dead girl child and threw her in the well, and when Shaurya's parents found the dead child, they believed it's their child.
Dev's father left to United States with the baby and returned after 3 months, with the baby girl (who was named Akriti by Dev and Shaurya together) and his ailing wife, making everyone believe that his wife gave birth to the baby girl there. After a few months, Dev's mother passed away and everyone believed it was because of the second delivery which was life threatening to her already weak health.
Some even blamed Dev's father for getting his wife pregnant when she was already sick but he bore all of it. Shaurya held immense respect and admiration for Rajnath for taking such a blame for his sister.

Both Dev and Shaurya waited for Akriti to tell them the truth on why she has to attempt suicide, weeks turned into months but nothing came out of Akriti's mouth, Dev or Shaurya or Dev's father, Rajnath never left her alone, one or the other always stayed with her.
Dev and Shaurya tried to dig the truth from other sources but they got to know only bits and pieces, Shaurya tried to cheer her up with Akansha's name but seeing the hurt and pain in his sister's face hearing the name, Shaurya suspected something is wrong and finally when his sister told them the truth, he was shocked.
"Shaurya... You want me safe right? You want me not to harm myself? I won't but make her feel the same pain, promise me Shaurya, Dev... Both of you, promise me that she would be left in the same pain, suffering, only then would she understand what she did to me", Akriti asked crying hysterically
"Bacha... Relax... We will do anything you want", Dev said but Shaurya shook his head.
"Akriti, beta take some rest for a while, we'll talk about it later", Shaurya said and stormed out.
Giving pain to a woman, faking love only to break her heart didn't seem right to Shaurya at all. His values didn't support it, he hated deception, then how the hell was he supposed to do that to a woman?
Dev followed Shaurya after Akriti slept.
"What the hell Shaurya? Why didn't you promise Akriti?", Dev asked holding Shaurya's shoulder.
"Do you even realize what was she asking? To deceive a woman Dev...", Shaurya said, looking incredulously at his friend who is questioning him as if he denied a chocolate to their sister.
"To deceive a woman who betrayed our sister's trust, used her admiration for her selfish motives, emotionally damaged her to the core, pushed her into depression that she hated taking every single breath today", Dev said, and Shaurya fisted his palms in anger at the woman who did all this to his sister, but he couldn't bring himself to betray a woman's trust.
"I will punish her in some other way, I won't let her live in peace for doing this to my sister, but not this... Definitely not this, I preach everyone to respect women, what kind of a man will I be if I do this to a woman?", Shaurya questioned
"You may not, I will...", Dev said
"I won't let you Dev... Playing with a woman is the worst thing", Shaurya said
"You are saying this? Shaurya, you? I thought you would do anything for Akriti", Dev asked
"I would, you don't know how much I hate that woman Akansha for causing so much pain to my sister, but this? No way Dev", Shaurya said strongly
"We are not destroying her in any other way, my motive is to break her heart, trust me Shaurya, I won't even touch her, but yeah I will definitely get her to experience the heartbreak and betrayal at the same time, just like she made Akriti go through", Dev said with conviction and left from there. Shaurya decided to talk to Dev later to make him understand that this isn't the right way but what he witnessed two days later made him agree to his sister's demands though unwillingly.

"DADDA.....", Siya called seeing Shaurya and ran to him in her cranky mood.
Shaurya's heart beat fastened, he quickly walked towards Siya, Suraj quickly shut the doors of the department, he was about to switch off the CCTV cameras but Shaurya stopped him showing his palm. He wasn't doing anything illegal, he didn't want to hide it as if he was doing something wrong, it would make his wife and daughter look cheap. Moreover the CCTV doesn't have a microphone, the voice won't be recorded so he didn't have to worry about their safety. He was going to announce in a few days anyway.
Mr. Khanna wanted to hold Siya, he is sure the little girl might have mistaken Shaurya to be her dad but when he heard Shaurya's next words, he stood frozen, not just him the whole CR team stood frozen, especially Samuel and Mrs. Arora who treated Akansha in a not so right way.
"Siyu... Baby... Slow down... You'll hurt yourself", Shaurya said walking towards his daughter and slowly picked her up. Siya hid her face in her father's shoulder wounding her arms around his neck.
Most of them still thought Shaurya was just being kind, also they knew Shaurya was fond of children and everyone saw his pictures with Siya during the annual day celebrations at Siya's school.
"Dadda... Ninnie(sleepy)", Siya whispered.
"I know bacha... Sleep... Dadda is here... Sh...", Shaurya told his daughter to sleep, slowly patting her back, walking to & fro. He knew she would be cranky if she didn't have that mandatory nap of a few minutes after she woke up, and now due to all this commotion and the place change, she got extra cranky.
With his words, everyone understood that he is the father. Now everything made sense, the daycare at work, Akansha's courage while talking to Shaurya, how she made the impossible, possible by getting the extensions.
"Where is Akansha?", Shaurya asked, this is the first time he addressed her like that, in front of everyone. He usually addressed her as Dr. Akansha.
He was scared of her reaction. She would skin him alive for this mishap. He didn't expect her to bring Siya to their workplace. They discussed about this once, and he said she could bring Siya to their workplace if there's no one to look after her at home but she outright rejected the idea citing she couldn't control her daughter's excitement seeing his pictures, and being the chief minister, the secretariat did have his photos here and there, though not as many as his predecessors used to have theirs during their terms, but enough to convey the message that who's in power. He didn't like that kind of visibility but it's to satisfy party activists who work for his success without any expectations.
"S.. She was on a call...", Mr. Khanna answered, he cursed himself, he was setting up his son with Akansha in a dinner hosted by the CM, not knowing she was the CM's wife. Well, maybe ex-wife, but Akansha didn't confirm their divorce, and on the other hand, the chief minister hadn't announced even his marriage. Mr. Khanna didn't understand what's the issue.
Before Shaurya could ask another question, Akansha came there after her call with Richa. Her eyes widened at her daughter in Shaurya's arms and everyone else stood rooted to their places, with visible shock which they failed to hide. She understood what might have happened.
"Dadda... Tandi...(I am feeling cold)", Siya said and Shaurya diverted his attention from his wife to here and there, Akansha quickly took Siya's small blanket and covered her with it, while Shaurya held the duvet in place so his daughter doesn't feel cold.
Shaurya made his daughter sleep, instead of waking her up after her afternoon nap as he has something important to deal with. He made Siya lie on the bed in the day care and returned.
Akansha stood silently, fuming in anger, at what Richa told her just now and what just happened. She suspected Shaurya's hand in this as well, otherwise why would he come there directly without telling her? He wanted to reveal it to the people that Siya is his daughter and she is his ex-wife... And then he wanted her to suffer in the hands of people. That meant he still didn't stop with his retribution? All these doubts popped up in her head, and why wouldn't she doubt him? Shaurya Singh Shekhawat didn't give her any reason to trust him.
Shaurya looked at his wife and immediately looked to the other side, seeing her glare at him. This was noticed by almost everyone, as all their focus was on them.
"Siyakriti is my daughter and Akansha, my wife, but I would like this information to stay in this room, until I announce it publicly", Shaurya said in his soft yet stern tone which no one would dare to cut or cross-question.
"Suraj... Get everyone's signatures on NDA", Shaurya added
"Yes sir... I have asked your legal team for NDA, I will get the signatures as soon as they get ready", Suraj replied to which Shaurya nodded.
"Get back to work, Suraj will get the signatures in a few hours, only after that will your phones be returned to you", Mr. Sharma told everyone and they nodded, having no option.
Akansha glared at Shaurya so hard that he gulped before walking towards her.
"I... I'm sorry... I couldn't tell you about my schedule as...", Shaurya trailed, he didn't want to disclose about the attack on him.
She so wanted to slap him but controlled her fury. How dare he try to manipulate her again. Now she was sure he planned all this, because if he didn't, he should have an explanation on why he didn't let her know about his return which he didn't.
"My fault... I trusted you again, and you broke it, again", Akansha said, giving one final glance at him, walking to the daycare, picking Siya up, and leaving for the day.
Shaurya shut his eyes at the disappointment he caused to his wife, but he didn't know the pain in her eyes was not because he failed to tell her about his schedule, or the mishap that happened, rather it was because she thought he did it all intentionally. He walked back to his office to think about how to convince his wife and ask sorry from her. He never wanted to disappoint her again but he did.
He should have let her know, not listening to Suraj, at least his wife wouldn't be this hurt. He didn't blame Suraj, he was just looking after his safety, but who would tell his CSO that he preferred getting physically hurt than hurting his wife? He had done that enough to suffer guilt and regret for life.
In the night, Shaurya went to Akansha's home, he wanted to talk to her, and explain her the situation but she wasn't picking up his calls.
He entered the house expecting his daughter to run towards him but he found only Akansha.
"Is Siya sleeping?", he asked, he noticed the cold aura but was afraid to address it. He wasn't ashamed to accept that he was afraid of his wife.
"Siya is at Richa's place for the night", Akansha said shocking him, he didn't expect Akansha to send Siya somewhere else. He knew she couldn't live without Siya even for a night then why? "I know you would be here and I don't want even your sight to fall on my daughter anymore", she said and his heartbeat fastened at her words, What is she implying? Did she mean she wouldn't let him meet Siya anymore? No, Akansha can't do that to him right?
"What... What does that even mean Akansha?", Shaurya asked, trying to compose his labored breaths.
"The same your brain caught... What did you think? You would plot something so cheap and I wouldn't get to know?", she asked
"What are you talking about? Be clear please", he pleaded.
"You were the one who was dropping hints on Facebook and Instagram pages about your love life, isn't it? You were planning to reveal about your life, about me and Siya? Without consulting me? How dare you?", Akansha snapped... Though he did tell her that he would be disclosing about them before the elections, she was furious that he didn't discuss his plans about this whole 'Social Media' fiasco with her.
"You are right but listen to me once", he said but she took a step towards him and slapped him hard. He wasn't shocked, but definitely taken back...
"Shut up... I don't want to hear your nonsense anymore... I also know what happened was your plan, you got to know that Siya was with me in the secretariat and you returned purposely, you planned all this, what did you think? I wouldn't know? You are a b**t**d Shaurya, I don't know why I even trusted you with my daughter's life", Akansha said and he sighed deeply. It hurt him immensely at how low she thought of him but she was right at her position. According to her, all he did was betray her trust, give her pain, and snatch her peace for his retribution.
"I planned the disclosure like this, by dropping the hints through social media, I'm preparing everyone for the big revelation to lower the impact. I'm at fault that I didn't discuss this with you, but I was scared you wouldn't agree... This was important Akansha, before my adversaries revealed this in the worst possible way, I had to take a step. If I didn't take action now, this truth will be revealed more harshly and it would impact Siya the most, I was protecting her... I didn't want her to face society's judgments, because of having a father like me. I'm so sorry for initiating something like this without your consent...", he said but there's no change in Akansha's demeanor. He didn't want to explain the incident that took place that afternoon as he didn't want her to worry for him or be afraid of hers and Siya's safety.
"You will not meet Siya hereafter, I know Siya will be having a lot of pain but it is better to stop this here than...", Akansha started, he knew she was angry and she tended to make impulsive decisions while angry but this was utter cruelty. She was thinking of separating his daughter from him forever?
"Akansha... That won't be possible... I won't be leaving Siya's life ever, I thought I already made it clear to you", he said softly but his words fueled her anger.
"You have to... My daughter is ill-fated to have a father like you, but I won't let it affect her future... You are the worst father in the world Shaurya and you will remain so", she spat, grabbing his collar.
"Don't say something you don't mean, please", he pleaded, his eyes begging her to see his vulnerability but she had faced enough pain because of him to notice his ache and he understood her, he deserved all her hatred but when it came to his daughter, he couldn't take her harsh judgments.
"I mean it, you know even I thought you would be a responsible father if not a responsible husband but you, Shaurya Singh Shekhawat are a spineless creature, leave about being a father to my daughter, you don't deserve to be called a human. Tell me why shouldn't I keep you away from my daughter? You even played your dirty games involving your daughter?", she said referring to the afternoon incident. He shut his eyes, he couldn't take her blame anymore regarding the things he hadn't done, he wanted to reveal everything but he refrained. He can't take risks with her life, but he could at least give her a clarification regarding the afternoon incident.
"I know I have committed numerous mistakes, you are right in thinking the worst about me, but trust me I have no hand in the afternoon incident, I didn't know you brought Siya to the workplace if I had known, I wouldn't have made my presence there", Shaurya started
"Don't waste my time, get out", Akansha said calmly, but she was anything but calm.
"Listen to me, and I'll leave", Shaurya said and she sighed but nodded.
"I couldn't inform you about my return because there was an attack planned on me during campaigning... Suraj took action immediately, I was advised by my security team not to let anyone know about my schedule, and I was taken to my office from the entrance behind the building, there were no plans for me to meet anyone or announce my presence until the situation gets under control completely, but then the former education minister came with his party activists protesting the curriculum revision just outside the education department, the protests were turning violent, I had no choice but to step in, after clearing the mess, I thought to check on you, trust me, I had no idea about Siya being there...", Shaurya said, there's a slight shift in her demeanor but she still looked at him suspiciously.
"Attack on you and the protests outside the education department happened on the same day? Do you take me for a fool?", she asked, it hurt to see the disbelief on her face and zero emotions regarding the attack on him but he knew that's what he gets after betrayal.
"The attack happened 2 days ago, and the protest happened today, I stayed in my guest house in the outskirts for more 30 hours, until the Assailants were caught and the situation was brought under control", Shaurya clarified, he could still find her suspicious of his words... "I have no reason to lie to you Akansha, if I have done it, I would agree just like I agreed to spreading the information in social media", he added.
"Your track record doesn't let me trust you Shaurya", she said sternly, he gulped his pain and gave a nod to her before dialing Suraj.
"Suraj... Send all the details regarding the attack on me, including the evidence of the incident and the assailants' statements", Shaurya ordered
"In 5 minutes sir", Suraj replied and Shaurya hung up.
He showed all the evidence to his wife, he also made her hear the attackers confessing about their stunts and said how they regretted their failed attempt to kill Shaurya. Akansha fisted her palm to control the fear that crept into her neck hearing those venomous words of the attackers. At that point, she wished Shaurya had lied to her about the attack, she didn't want a threat to his life.
"Don't worry, I won't let any harm your or Siya's way", Shaurya assured her thinking she was afraid for her or her daughter, earlier he thought she would get worried if she got to know about the attack but she didn't even trust him in the first place, the fact that she thought he could lie about something as sensitive as this shocked him, it made him realize how much distrust his actions in the past caused her to develop. Now, he understood that she hardly cared about him, and she didn't bother to correct him either.
"I don't think revealing about Siya amidst all these security issues is a wise decision", she expressed
"Sooner the better Akansha...", he said and she sighed... Both of them discussed the issues and he told her about the security arrangement around her and Siya, though they will be discrete, they will be there. He didn't want to do anything without letting her know now. He already saw the results.
"The other day, you were saying something? You wanted to talk about something", she reminded him...
"Oh! yes... What do you think about Father's day?", Shaurya asked Akansha, folding his hands to his chest. With his demeanor, she understood he got to know about the Father's day celebrations at Siya's school.
"I didn't think it's important to let you know, so I didn't", she said and he narrowed his eyes at her.
"You can punish me in any way for what I have done to you, but don't keep the same impression of me in Siya's case... You can imagine how upset Siya would be to not have her father in the celebrations while all her friends would have one, can't you?", Shaurya questioned and she fumed at his audacity.
"Imagine? I saw how upset my daughter was, not having her father while all her friends had, last year, the school conducted many activities for the father-child to bond, and Siya was denied entry in the competition because she didn't have her father, despite a male colleague of mine generously offered to participate with her... Do you know how sad she was? She cried that whole night, her every tear breaking my heart, turning my hatred for you into disgust. She could have participated with you if we had a normal marriage, if her father didn't marry her mother for retribution. So, don't you dare use these dialogues on me Shaurya... I feel like killing you but again, I don't want to dirty my hands", Akansha said, his eyes turned teary imagining his daughter's pain and how his wife must have struggled to handle little Siya.
"I'm sorry...", he apologized, though he knew his 'sorry' held no significance now.
"Stuff your 'sorry'...", Akansha started but shut her eyes calming herself, not wanting to utter any unparliamentary language which she disliked so much. "I know how upset Siya would be, but I can't let her future be in danger for momentary happiness", Akansha added calmly
"I won't allow our daughter to face punishment for my sins anymore... Don't worry, I'll handle it properly...", Shaurya said, with determination... She knew if he decided something, he would do it, who would know his stubbornness better than her, she had been handling his mini version for the past 4 years...
"If I see Siya shedding a single tear because of your impulsive decisions, I will stab you to death, Shaurya... mark my words," Akansha warned. Shaurya nodded. After briefly discussing his further plans regarding the revelation, he left from there.
