Chapter 3: Chapter 3

“Beth, open the door.” I heard mom say behind the door. I sighed and sat up in bed, and using the air around me, I opened the door.

“Yes mom?” I questioned as my parents walked into the room.

“What happened yesterday? I felt your anger and you being upset. I felt everything. What happened?” Mom asked and sat down on my bed as dad stood behind her.

Mom and I have a special connection, because mom has two elements. Fire and water. And she’s a white tiger. That’s pretty cool. Lucy might become a tiger as well, but you shift when you’re 13.

“Nothing.” I answered, not wanting them to know.

Dad sighed. “If this is about California then I’m not really sure why you were angry. You can go, if it means that much to you.” dad said and I looked up at dad.

“Really?” I asked and dad nodded.

“If you really want to go eth, then go. It’s your choice. But it’s like you said, you want to go after a couple of weeks or months right?” dad asked and I sighed.

“That’s the thing dad. I want to go today. I really need this.” I said and dad closed his eyes.

“Okay. But I get you a house. Nothing more okay. At least let me get you a house. And I need to check California out first. There might be another pack living there.” Dad said and I jumped out of bed and hugged him tightly.

“Thank you so much. I love you so much dad.” I said and he chuckled.

“I love you too. I’ll be in my office.” Dad said and I nodded as he walked out of my room.

“Mom I can go to California.” I said smiling at her as she stood up.

“Tell me the truth, what happened? There must have been something that happened. You didn’t even meet Jake. And speaking of Jake he seemed a little quiet and different.” Mom pointed out and I shrugged my shoulders.

“I don’t want to see Jake.” She raised an eyebrow at me. ”Yet.” I quickly said before walking away from my bed.“I’m going to go have a shower.”

“Okay but Layla is downstairs.” She said and I nodded as she walked out the room.

I went to my closet and picked out some black jeans and a purple top. I went to the bathroom and had a shower then got changed.

I put my hair in a ponytail and walked out my room and went downstairs. I went inside the kitchen to see Layla making pancakes.

“Hey.” I said sitting down on a stool.

“Here.” She smiled at me before handing me three pancakes on a plate.

“Thank you.” I said as she sat down next to me with her pancakes

“Jake came yesterday. How come you didn’t come to meet him?” She asked and I closed my eyes and sighed

“Layla, I don’t want to talk about Jake.” I said and she shrugged.

“Okay.” She replied and went back to eating her pancakes.

“I’m going to move to California. Hopefully today.” I said and she turned and looked at me.

“Why...” She asked and I sighed

“I want to do something different with my life. You know how I am. I want to be independent.” I said and she rolled her eyes.

“What about your mate? Don’t you want a mate?” She said and I scoffed.

“Mates are fucking assholes.” I said and she rolled her eyes.

“Did you know that Jake didn’t know about me having a mate. It’s his fault for not keeping contact.” Layla said laughing a little and I stood up.

“I don’t want to talk about Jake!” I shouted as Ashton walked inside the kitchen.

“What happened?” Ashton asked and Layla sighed.

“I’m not sure. I’ll see you later.” Layla muttered and walked out the kitchen.

“Beth.” Ashton said and I shook my head.

“Not now Ash.” I said and walked out the back door. I walked to the forest and to the clearing spot and just sat down on a log.

“Beth!” I heard Ashton shout as he came running into the clearing.

“I said leave me alone Ashton.” I muttered as he sat down on the log next to me

“What’s wrong? Why are you so angry. Yesterday I was walking home when it just started raining.” He said and I smiled.

“Sorry about that.” I said and he shrugged.

“Tell me what’s wrong? You can take your time.” he said doing his laces.

Ashton is three years younger than me but he looks older. He is taller than me. I’m 5′7 and he is 6′0. He acts older as well.

“Well not that long.” He mumbled and I shook my head.

“It’s nothing Ashton.” I said and he sighed.

“Is this about Jake? Because you didn’t come to meet him yesterday and when Layla mentioned him today you just went hulk on her.” He questioned and I laughed.

“Hulk?” I asked and he nodded.

“Yeh. Like you stood up and shouted and I was like she’s going to turn green any minute.” He said and I started laughing.

“Shut up.” I said and pushed him so he fell down on the floor.

“Okay at least you’re laughing. But that’s not very nice.” he said and I smirked.

“I think this is not very nice.” I said and moved my hand around to create a small storm close to him.

“Okay Beth. Sorry. Don’t do this.” He said putting his hands up and I nodded and got rid of the storm.

“I was only joking.” I said and he nodded and then looked serious.

“Now tell me what Jake did. You were perfectly fine before he arrived.” He said and I nodded.

“Jake is my mate.” I said and he smiled.

“That’s good, Beth. Don’t take what I said seriously. I was only joking. I didn’t really mean it.” He said, frowning as I shook my head.

“No, Ash, you don’t understand. Jake rejected me. Well I rejected him..” I said and he stood up.

“What the fuck why? Did he hurt you?” He shouted and I pulled his hand down and made him sit down again.

“Let me finish, but you can’t tell dad because you know how, dad is like. Yesterday I was sat on the bench when I smelt this amazing, actually fucking shit smell. And then Jake came and then he said he needs to talk to me. So we went to the forest and he told me he can’t be with me.” I said and Ashton stood up.

“I’m going to fucking kill him.” He said, about to walk away but I used the air around me and lifted him up and pulled him back and then made him stand in front of me.

“I hate that you have magic.” He mumbled and I made a shield around him to make sure he doesn’t run away.

“Do you want to know the rest?” I said and he nodded.

“So I asked why he didn’t want me and he said because he likes Layla and that I’m not dad’s real daughter.” I said and he growled lowly.

“That fucking asshole. Let me out, Beth.” He said and I shook my head.

“You can’t tell dad, Ashton. If you tell dad then dad will kill him and you know Jake has been my best friend. It won’t hurt me, but it will hurt Lexi. Even if she doesn’t say anything.” I said and he sighed.

“I can at least punch him right?” he asked and I nodded.

“Yes. Punch him twice. One for me. Now I am going to let you out, so don’t run okay?” I said and he nodded.

I moved the shield around him and he stayed where he was.

“We’re going home now. I need to talk to dad.” I said and he nodded.

We started walking home and we went inside just as Jake came out the living room.

Ashton walked towards him and punched him on the face and he fell down. He picked him up by his collar and punched him again just as dad came from the kitchen.

“Ashton. Stop!” Dad said using his alpha voice and Ashton threw Jake on the floor.

“My office now. Both of you. And you Beth.” Dad said and we walked inside his office. Dad sat down on his chair and I stood in the corner as Jake and Ashton sat on the chairs.

“Why were you punching jake? How did it start?” Dad asked and Jake shrugged.

“I’m not sure Alpha. I just came out from the living room and then Ashton just punched me. Out of nowhere.” He said and Ashton scoffed.

“You fucking know what you did!” Ashton shouted at him and dad slammed his hand down on the table.

“Quiet!” Dad shouted and they both nodded.

“Beth tell me what happened.” Dad said and I nodded.

“Well I came inside with Ashton and Jake started laughing...We asked why and he said... that it’s not surprising that Ashton doesn’t have a girlfriend. And that he is a loner and stupid.” I said coming up with a lie and Jake turned to me

“What the fuck, Beth? Why are you lying?” he growled and I shook my head.

“Do not shout at me Jake. I am the alpha’s daughter.” I said and he sighed.

“Yes Beth. You two can leave but do not mess around and get into petty fights, and Beth, I need to to talk to you.” Dad said and I nodded as both of them left.

“I know you really want to go to California and you can go. I don’t think there are any packs there but I couldn’t find any, because we had less time. And I have bought you a house. You can go whenever you want to.” Dad said and I smiled and dad hugged him tightly.

“Thank you dad. I love you a lot.” I said and he hugged me back.

“Beth, you’re my daughter. If it’s not by blood it doesn’t matter. I would do this for Lucy as well. But I would love it if you stayed with us.” Dad said and I shook my head and sat on his table.

“I really need this dad. I need to start over and Lexi agrees as well.” I said and dad nodded.

“Okay. But I really don’t understand why you need to start over? And how come you were glaring at Jake when he was here?” Dad asked and I rolled my eyes.

“I hate Jake, dad. I think that’s enough said.” I said and dad stood up.

“Did he do something? I will fucking kill him.” Dad said getting angry and I sighed.

“Nothing dad. Just calm down. Mom!” I shouted at the end and after a couple of minutes mom came into the room and sighed.

“What did you do now? Cole, calm down.” mom said, running her hand over dad’s face.

“Skylar..” Dad said, smiling.

“What happened here?” mom asked and I shrugged.

“Not sure. Anyways I will be upstairs in my room.” I said and mom nodded.

I walked out the room and went upstairs to my room where Jake was sitting on my bed.

“Get out.” I said and he stood up.

“Why did you lie?” He asked and I rolled my eyes.

“Leave now Jake or else I will call my dad.” I said and he walked out the room.

I can’t wait to move to California. Lexi said and I nodded.
