You know that moment when you play a game, any game, and you're so invested in it that you lose all reason and you know that you need to win at any cost. But despite your determinations you know when you start to lose, you know you can't help but lose.
First there's the morbid denial, then there's fear, followed by anger and a rush of adrenaline as you try everything in your power to change the destined path. Finally, there's acceptance. The last and final nail to the proverbial coffin that is a game.
The game was the role of playing Sir Jerks-A-Lot's female lead. The prize? Me not being Sir Jerks-A-Lot's female lead. The probability of that happening 2% to the probability of losing, 98%.
The denial came as I'd stared at the director, then as I made my way back to Marie's and as I made my way to my room without saying anything to her.
The fear emerged as I sat on the single cotton covered bed eating a bowl of instant noodles and drinking Dr Pepper. What if I can't come up with the hundred thousand? Will they really make me act with Sir Jerks-A-Lot?
Anger followed soon after as I lay on the bed, unable to sleep. That idiot! How dare he! Why did it have to be him? Why was he the make lead? If it was anyone else, preferably looking like Dave Franco, then I wouldn't be stuck in this mess?
The adrenaline kept me up all night as I went over all the ways I could get out of this situation.
Beg the director to excuse me, and let me pay back the hundred thousand in installments. Raise a hundred thousand in the few days I had left by selling everything I owned. Ask mom and dad for the hundred thousand, which they would likely be getting out of my college fund. Or ask Mr Rich Pants aka Sir Jerks-A-Lot aka Gregory for a hundred thousand in exchange for me staying out of his way and not having to see my face for the rest of his putrid life. Or just maybe I could just walk out onto the nearest highway and slip away in death.
The possibilities were endless. But they all came to the same sad conclusion: None of them were going to happen.
Acceptance hit me as the clock neared five in the morning.
I was going to be a lead in a movie and will be acting next to Sir Jerks-A-Lot, the jerk that damaged my phone and landed me in this mess in the first place. I mean, if the jerk hadn't run into me in the first place I could've experienced a far more friendlier trip. I knew for a fact that running into him was a bad omen of sorts.
If he hadn't run into me then I wouldn't have felt the need to run after him and demand replacement. If that hadn't happened, I wouldn't have ended up with his phone and wouldn't have gone to his family home.
Then, I wouldn't have had the urge to say yes to the offer of coming in for head-shots.
That jerk was a walking, sexy disaster train, waiting to just derail my normal, calm life.
And I will be working with him for the next six or seven months according to the director.
Sleep took hold of me as I silently cursed Gregory.

I'd woken up this morning, determined to update myself on everything surrounding this movie.
I logged onto Google and typed in 'Gregory Rush'. No results came up.
'Greg Rush'. No results.
Wasn't the jerk all cocky about himself? If he was, then why does Google not even know who he is, when Google knows everything?
Then Google asked, 'Want to search up Dylan Rush?'
Well, what the heck? It's not like Sir Jerks-A-Lot's face is gonna show up.
But it did. Next to the name Dylan Rush was a photo of a smiling Sir Jerks-A-Lot.
I clicked on the Wikipedia link.
Dylan Rush (born 4 March 1995) is an American actor. His parents Angelina and Zachary Rush made a name for themselves in the industrial business and are valued at an estimated 500 million. He was born and raised in Los Angeles , California and attended Hilton Prep for two years before moving to Hollywood Dramatic Arts.
Rush first hit the big screen in the acclaimed blockbuster Kaleidoscope (2008) alongside Oscar winning Flynn Mather's as his estranged son. Rush then went on making hits as a household name in movies such as Force (2009), Coastal Scene (2009), The Haunting (2010), High School Disaster Lane (2010), Kingston Lane (2011) among others.
His latest headlining movie The Analyst (2014) won Rush an Emmy and 2 Oscars for male actor and movie of the year. He is currently rumored to be in the cast for the movie 'Rushed' based on the novel titled 'Crushed'.
Then I clicked on the italicized 'Crushed'.
'Crushed' is a 2013 novel written by teenage author Losalini Kaloucava.
It revolves around Ashleigh Bishop a twenty year old barrista who tries to make ends meet. She finds out that her boyfriend of three years has been cheating on her. Distraught, Ashleigh decides that a change of scenery is needed and so, she moves to the big city and starts volunteering at helpline for depressed people at night whilst housekeeping during the day.
She answers a call one day from a depressed gentleman, who just found his fiancee sleeping with his best friend. She forms a platonic relationship with the caller, who spills secrets about his depressed family to her. She dubs him Mr X. Ashleigh continues to house-keep for a rich family whose kids have moved out.
Mr Clarke and Mrs Clarke treat her as family, unlike their middle child Ethan, who treats her as nothing less than dirt. Despite her brimming hatred for the spoiled brat, she is determined to do her best whist dealing with Mr X's problems. After months of friendship, they decide to meet up.
What happens when she finds out Mr X's identity is none other than Ethan Clarke, her own personal Devil on earth? Will she tell him who she is? Or will she just keep silent and try to crush the not so platonic feelings she's developed for him?
I stared bewildered at the similarity in my story and Ashleigh Bishop's story. We both had cheating exes. We both came to the big city and found jobs. And we both had rich bastards on our backs.
I sympathized with her, although she was stupid for falling for a jerk like him.
So, I was supposed to portray her in the big scene. And that idiot was supposed to portray Mr X aka Ethan Clarke. He'll fit the arrogant asshole part perfectly but would I be able to act Ashleigh out? I hadn't even taken an acting class before, unless you counted the dramatic exercise in summer camp six years ago.
Well, who knows, maybe my acting would be so pathetic that they'll pay me to not act anymore? One could be hopeful.
Jerk's phone vibrated next to me.
I unlocked it. 1234 and glanced at the screen.
