Chapter 18
You Are My Starlight
Iâm Not A Crybaby (Part 1)
Su Mianmianâs method of running away from home was too immature.
When she returned to the cake shop in the morning, she saw Su Weize and Bai Meifeng waiting for her.
Standing next to them was the boss in pajamas who kept yawning.
Su Mianmianâs heart sank. Before she could say anything, she saw Su Weize walk forward and slapped her on the face.
Pah. The boss was totally awake.
âHey, you can talk things over. Why do you have to hit the child?â The boss quickly went forward and shielded Su Mianmian behind him.
Su Mianmian looked up and saw Su Weizeâs face turn black as he said to her, âGo back with me immediately!â After that, he went back to the car first without waiting for her to react.
âMianmian, are you okay?â the boss asked worriedly.
Su Mianmian shook her head and said, âIâm fine. Iâve been hit countless times since young.â
Bai Meifeng came up, pretended to hold Su Mianmianâs arm and said, âLet me take a look, youâre going to be a bride soon, your face mustnât be hurt...Itâs fine, your father still cares about you. Your face is still pretty.â
The way she said it was really annoying.
Su Mianmian said coldly, âAuntie Mei, how about you take the slap instead and see if it hurts?â
Bai Meifeng smiled awkwardly and said, âLook at you. You really donât know the right things to say.â
It was the first time the boss met Su Mianmianâs family, and he hadnât expected the situation to be so bad.
Hearing Bai Meifengâs words, he thought, sure enough, a stepmother brings about a stepfather. It seems that Su Mianmian is really pitiful.
âMianmian, why donât you go in? Iâll get some ice for you. A girl has to pay attention to her face.â
âHey, wait a minute, Mister.â Bai Meifeng held Su Mianmianâs hand, looking like a worried adult as she said, âWe will help Mianmian apply after we get back. Thereâs no need for you to worry about it.â
With a heavily-stubbled face, the boss looked especially terrifying when he wasnât smiling. He looked at Bai Meifeng and emphasized every word he said, âShe is my employee. I am obliged to look after her since the incident happened in my shop.â
Bai Meifeng was a little frightened by him. She let go of her hand and said a little awkwardly. â...Ph, all right, but you have to be fast. We still have other things going on.â
The boss brought Su Mianmian to the common room, took out an ice pack from the refrigerator and handed it to her as he said, âHow much salary do you want in advance?â
Su Mianmian held the ice pack against her face and the tingling sensation gradually disappeared. After hearing the bossâs words, she looked up at him.
The boss sighed and said, âI really didnât know the situation in your family was so bad. Tell me, what help do you need? Youâve been working here for two years after all. I may not be able to help in other areas, but money-wise, I can help a bit.â
Su Mianmian felt warmth in her heart. Although her family members werenât good to her, she had met many people who gave her warmth.
If the boss had said so yesterday, she would definitely be very happy.
But when she saw Su Weize at the entrance of the cake shop today, she realized only then that she was too inexperienced.
If she had successfully left home yesterday, the boss would probably be in trouble?
She couldnât let anything happen to people who cared about her.
Moreover, Su Weize had already come here today, so she could no longer accept help from the boss anymore.
âIâm fine! My father is just not very good-tempered.â Su Mianmian smiled and said, âIt seemed like he had hit me hard, but actually it doesnât hurt at all.â
âYouâre really okay? Doesnât seem like it to me.â The boss didnât really believe her.
âIâm fine, I...Iâm my fatherâs daughter after all! He canât possibly sell me?â In actual fact, she was about to be sold. When Su Mianmian said these words, she felt very upset, but she still acted as if nothing happened.
âI didnât go home last night. I guess my father is angry because of this. Iâm sorry to have caused you inconvenience.â
The boss looked at Su Mianmianâs spiritless appearance. She was really pitiful.
âI see... then talk things over with your father when you get back. Communicate well with him and donât run away from home. Itâs not a smart move to run away from home. Iâve done it many times when I was young, and I returned home every time when I had no more money, but ended up being beaten up worse.â
Su Mianmian lowered her head, and it wasnât known if she had taken in his advice.
(As a child who was lacking in love, Mianmian would cherish and also be very moved as long as there was a little warmth...)
