The Luna’s Choice by Kat Silver
Chapter 84: Theo I opened my office door to find Kingston standing on the other side. I wasnât in the mood, nor did I have the time, to deal with whatever he was there for. But before I could voice a protest he stopped me.
âWhat do you need?â he asked.
That was it.
I paused for a moment. Then I grabbed a pen and paper and wrote down instructions, an address, and a time. I handed the paper to him. He looked at it and nodded.
âThank you,â was all I said before I brushed past him.
Jimmy was right behind me. Annabelle was staying by to continue to monitor the security footage to see if she could identify whoever John was arguing with. I rushed down the stairs. Once we reached the lobby I was stopped dead in my tracks as my parents walked into the packhouse. They saw me and were immediately heading in my direction. My mother wrapped her arms around me and I inhaled sharply, trying to hold back the flood of emotions.
I took a moment to hug her back, but not long. I pulled back.
âAyla is still at the hospital,â I said. âI have something I need to take care of.â
âTheo,â my mother hissed. âWhat dare you...â
âGrace,â Dad said calmly, resting a hand on her shoulder, âlet him go. Weâll be here when youâre ready.â
I gave my father a grateful look. Hating that I had to leave. Having them home was more of a relief than I thought. But I needed to take care of this. I headed out of the packhouse and got into my car Once Jimmy was in, I peeled out of the lot.
âHave you talked to Maggie?â Jimmy asked, breaking the heary silence.
I sighed. âNo, I havenât,â I replied. âHow is she handling this?
âNot well,â Jimmy stated. âI think you need to call her in on this search.â
âWill she even leave the hospital?â
Jimmy nodded. âYeah,â he said flatly. âSheâll want to find this bastard.â
I thought about his advice as we made our way through the city. I pulled over at the curb in front of a duplex. My soul was already so heavy that day I wouldnât have thought anything could weigh it down anymore. But the thought of the conversation I was about to have did I got out and walked up to the front door, knocking firmly. My jaw clenched as the door opened.
âAlpha Theo?ââ
âSarah, I need to know where John is.â
Hurt and fear filled her face. She knew something was very wrong. We had talked several times about his recent behavior, but I hadnât had the time to tell her about his connection with the Waar Pak. I donât know if I wouldâve had the heart to if I had.
âWhat did he do?â Sarah croaked, stepping aside to let us in 22.84%

âWe have proof, Sarah,â I interrupted. I sighed. âRight now, we just need to find him. We need to know who he was working with.â
âI... He...â Sarah stuttered. âIs Luna okay?â
âSheâs alive,â was all I could say. âWhere is he, Sarah?â
âI donât know,â she said. âI havenât heard from him since yesterday morning.â
âI need you to call him.â
She nodded slowly, picking up her phone from a side table. âWhatâs going to happen to him?â
I didnât know what to tell her so I didnât tell her anything. âPlease, call him, Sarah.â
Her eyes filled with tears as she clicked on his contact in her phone. She put it on speaker so we could hear the call ringing. He didnât answer the first couple attempts but picked up on the third.
âJohn, where are you?â Sarah asked, struggling to remain calm.
âSarah, Iâm sorry,â he rushed, his tone genuinely pained. âI screwed I screwed up big time. Iâm so sorry.â
âJohn, slow down,â Sarah insisted. âWhatâs going on? What did you do?â
âI... I canât tell you,â John replied.
1. up.
âJohn, come home,â she pled. âPlease.â
âI canât, Sarah,â John said solemnly. âIâm sorry, but I canât. I need to go away for a while. You canât be seen with me.
âJohn, where are you?â Saray pressed.
â
âI canât tell you, Sarah,â he snapped. âYou canât help me. I just need to lay low for now. Iâm so sorry. Just remember I love you.â
The line went dead. Tears were flowing freely down Sarahâs cheeks. She knew this wouldnât end well for him.
âSarah,â I asked, âwhere would John go?â
âIâm not sure,â she said shakily.
âPlease, anywhere you can think of can help,â I assured her.
âUm... thereâs a cabin,â she said. âItâs out near the lake, about ten miles from your parentâs place, I think. Iâm not sure, we havenât been up in a few years. But it was his auntâs.â
âThank you,â I said. âIs that the only possible place you could think of?â
âMaybe the old fairgrounds,â she said. âThatâs where we first met.â
âAgain, thank you,â I said. âAnd Iâm sorry, Sarah. Truly, I am.â
âSo am I,â she replied painfully.
I left Sarahâs place, sending Jimmy next door to have her neighbor come sit with her for a while. As I was waiting, my phone rang. It was Briggs.

âSheâs fine,â Briggs said. âSheâs about the same as when you left. But the doctor says she is stable enough to go home. Heâs going to discharge her soon. I thought you would want to be here.â
âDoes...â I swallowed hard. âDoes she want me there?â
Briggs was silent for a moment, weighing his words as he did.
âTheo, right now, I donât think what she wants matters,â he stated. âAt least, not regarding you. You need to be here. For both of you.â
âIâm on my way.â
