Chapter 218
The Luna’s Choice by Kat Silver
Chapter 68: Ayla Theo and I got out of the car at the doctorâs office later that afternoon. The parking lot was nearly empty as they had probably stopped seeing patients for the day already. Theo had managed to get them to fit me in today.
âThis may be better anyway,â he said as he wrapped an arm around my waist. âThe fewer people see us here, the less risk of rumors starting.â
He kissed my temple and walked me inside.
âHello, Alpha. Luna Ayla,â a woman in a white coat greeted us at the door. âItâs a pleasure to meet you. Iâm Dr. Albright.â
âItâs a pleasure as well, Doctor,â I said, shaking her hand. âWeâre sorry to keep you here after hours.â
âDonât you even worry about that,â she said. âIâd be here doing my notes anyway. Come on back with me.â
Theo squeezed my hand as we followed the doctor back to an examination room. She started off with a standard exam and talked about what I could expect during a werewolf pregnancy. She took her time, letting us ask as many questions as we had.
âThere has been a lot going on ever since Ayla and I got together,â Theo said. âShe has been going through a lot of extra stress lately. Now, her morning sickness has been getting worse, so sheâs not sleeping. I know this canât be healthy for both of them.â
âItâs not healthy for any of you,â Dr. Albright said. âIdeally, we want both Mom and Dad to get rest and relaxation. However, life often has 77.08 different plans. I can definitely give you something that can help with the morning sickness. As well as some pamphlets with techniques that can help reduce stress. It is something important to consider. But what can help with that is to remember that we are a resilient species, and babies are often as resilient as we are. But Iâd like to do an ultrasound today anyway. That should help put you at ease.â
âThank you, Doctor,â I said.
She took us back to the ultrasound room and instructed me to lie down. It was a strange feeling waiting to see my pup for the first time as she prepared the machine. She touched the wand to my belly and within seconds, we could hear a heartbeat coming through the monitor. Theoâs hold on my hand tightened. A smile spread across the doctorâs face.
âEverything looks fantastic,â she said, âAnd hereâ â she turned the monitor in our direction and pointed to a spot on the screen âis your little pup. Strong and healthy.â
I swiped at the tears that started to fall as Theo kissed my temple, whispering how much he loved me.
âYou will probably start feeling it kick any day now,â she said.
âAlready?â I asked.
She nodded. âItâs growing pretty fast. Itâs not terribly uncommon to see some pup develop faster than others. And it is possible that you could have conceived shortly before your heat, as well. Either way, youâre doing a great job and your baby is doing great.
I breathed a sigh of relief, leaning into Theo as he held onto me. Dr. Albright wiped my belly clean and covered me back up. She printed out some of the images from the ultrasound and handed them to me.
âFirst pictures of baby. Iâll get you something for the morning sickness, continue with your prenatal vitamins, and just keep doing what youâre doing,â she said with a smile.
âAgain, thank you,â Theo said. âWe really appreciate you fitting us in. And for your discretion.â
âOf course, Alpha,â Dr. Albright replied. âWe are all excited about our nèw Alpha and Luna. The pack will be just as exciting when they find out about the new addition. The least I can do is help protect them.â She stood up and smoothed her coat. âTake any time you need, but there isnât anything else for me today. See yourselves out when youâre ready.â
We thanked her again as she left. The moment the door closed, Theo was kissing me. I chuckled against his lips.
âDo you feel better?â I asked when he finally pulled away.
âI do,â he confirmed, helping me off the bench. âDo you?â
âI will feel even better once this morning sickness is under control,â I chided. âBut yes, itâs a big relief knowing that, with everything else, at least our pup is strong and doing fine. Thank you. For insisting I come in.â
He brushed his fingers along my cheek. âItâs my job to take care of you, love,â he replied. âBoth of you. Iâm not going to let you suffer. Even if it is normal or because of our pup.â
Well, itâs 1 ââ
understanding that we may need to get used to a little bit of suffering when it comes to our kids,â I teased.
âNot a chance,â he insisted with a grin.
After a few more kissed and caresses, we headed back out to the car.
My mind wandered to something I had been putting off as we pulled out of the parking lot.
âWhatâs wrong?â Theo asked.
âNothingâs wrong,â I assured him. âI was just thinking. Now that we know everything is fine, it may be time to tell Ma and Kylee
