Confessions

It was now around 11AM a few days into the trip and a thought that kept coming into Kate's mind was the blue UConn blanket that was on her when she woke up the first morning in Myrtle Beach. Nika and Kate hadn't talked much the first few days. The only words they exchanged were either 'good morning' or 'fuck you' to each other. But Kate finally wanted to speak out and talk to Nika about the blanket.

Kate heard a bunch of chatting downstairs so she decided to head down.

"Look who decided to finally wake up"

"Shut up Clark." Caitlin held her hands up in defense.

"I made some pancakes and eggs if you want some Kate." Ice had said to Kate as she held up a plate.

"Thanks Ice. Where is everyone else?"

"A few like Aj and Aubrey went into town to shop, Nika, Dorka, and Gabbie went out to the beach, and the rest are probably somewhere scattered in the house." Kate was pondering on what she should do. A few of the girls would probably go into town with her, or, she could go to the beach although Nika was there.

The first few days they just got settled and situated into the house so they didn't have much time to go to the beach or go into town. Today was the first day they could do whatever they wanted.

Kate started to make her way into her room and get dressed into a bathing suit. As cover up, she decided to wear a gray Iowa WBB t-shirt and black cargo shorts.

"I'm heading out to the beach if anyone wants to come with." Kate was hustling through the house to make sure she had everything she needed although the beach was in their backyard.

As Kate was about to open the backdoor to the outside, Caitlin stood in her way.

"Move it Clark."

"What made you decide to head down to the beach?"

"I don't know, to tan and go in the water I guess. I'm not trying to take this all for granted before we get back to Iowa."

"You don't even like the beach. Just tell me you're going down there for Nika." Kate scoffs and flips Caitlin off. "Don't hate the player Kate, hate the game. Just admit you're going down there for Mühl, because you want to spend as much time as you can with her."

"You don't know what you're talking about. Now move it." Caitlin moves out of the way and as Kate is walking down to where the girls are, she starts to replay the conversation she just had in her head. Caitlin was right. Kate doesn't like the beach so why is she going down there?

As soon as Gabbie noticed Kate walking down, Gabbie ran up and embraced Kate in a warm hug. "You came to the beach?! You hate the beach!"

"Yea well no one wanted to go out everyone wanted to stay inside with the AC. So now I've ended up here."

As Kate and Gabbie headed down to where their spot was on the beach, Kate's eyes trailed to Nika immediately. But Nika's eyes did the same exact thing to Kate's. Once they both realized they were making eye contact, they immediately looked away. That quick glance moment felt like lifetimes for the both of them.

"Gabbie and I are going to go in the water. Wanna come with Kate?" Dorka offered to Kate as her and Gabbie were already walking towards the water.

"Yea I'll come in a few minutes." Dorka gave Kate a thumbs up as Kate started to undress and reveal her bikini. Nika's eyes had lingered for a little too long, but thankfully Kate hadn't noticed.

"Are you going to go in the water?" Kate asked.

"I don't know, I don't really like getting my hair wet. I prefer to just sit in the sun and read a book or listen to music or something."

"Understandable, mind if I sit next to you?" Nika and Kate looked at each other for a second. Many thoughts were running through Nika's head when Kate asked that. Nika scooted a little over and patted on her towel for Kate to sit next to her.

"Thanks" Kate mumbled under her breath.

As Kate was spraying sunscreen on her, some of the chemicals had gotten into Nika's face which caused her to start coughing and gagging.

"Sorry." Instead of Nika getting mad, they both just started giggling. For the first time since the fight, they both genuinely laughed and seemed to start liking each other a little bit. Both of their gazes reached one another and through Kate's face of embarrassment showed red flushing into her cheeks.

"Uhm can you do a favor for me?" Kate gulped before she began continuing because she didn't know how Nika might react. "Do you mind putting sunscreen on my back?"

Nika's heart began racing tremendously. She acted nonchalant on the outside when in the inside she was freaking out. "Sure"

Kate lifted up her hair with her hands so it wouldn't be on Nika's face. It had startled Kate when she felt the coldness of the sunscreen brush onto the warmth of her back. That coldness quickly went away when she felt Nika's hands touch her back. Kate has never felt such smooth and gentle hands touch her skin before. This was something she could get used to.

When Nika started rubbing in the sunscreen on Kate's back, she noticed how baby soft and clear the girls skin was. She took a second to just appreciate and admire the girl's muscular back before putting more sunscreen on it again.

All of this had been happening without a single word said between either of them. And for the first time, it felt like comfortable silence. There was no tension in the air, it was like nothing before then had existed. It felt like nothing existed except them.

When Nika finished putting the sunscreen on Kate, she noticed the girl didn't get up yet. "Are you going to go in the water now?"

"In a minute. I've been meaning to ask you something." Kate paused for a moment debating whether to ask Nika this or not. But it was better to do it now than never at all. "When I woke up, I noticed a UConn blanket was over me. I know I didn't put that on me because I don't go to UConn. So did you put that on me?"

Nika was uncertain whether to lie or not. Nika was a great liar, she could just say Azzi or Paige went in there room and put it on her. But Nika knew Kate didn't deserve that. "Uhm yea I put it on you." Nika felt Kate's hand brush upon her own. She didn't think Kate noticed because she didn't pull away. Nika didn't pull away either. "I was using the bathroom and when I was getting ready to get into bed I saw you shivering and I didn't want to wake you up so I just decided to give you my blanket."

Kate sat there for a moment just looking between both of Nika's eyes trying to figure out what words to respond back with. "Well thanks for doing that, Nika, I really appreciate it. I don't sleep well with zero blankets on me so I must've been really exhausted to sleep without one, especially my childhood one. So really, thank you."

Nika and Kate looked into each others eyes with both slight smiles across their faces. Nika noticed this was the first time Kate had ever used her name in a conversation to her. Now Nika has to return the favor. "No problem Kate. If you ever get cold in the middle of the night, just feel free to take one of my blankets."

Nika and Kate's eyes still lingered on each other. The only noise they could hear was the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore. Well, that was, until they heard Gabbie screaming from the distance. "Are you coming in Kate?"

The two girls didn't want this intimate moment between them break apart, but they had no choice but to let it. "Yea I'm coming in now." Kate directed her attention back to Nika. "Wanna come with?"

"No I'm good thanks though. I'll probably head back to the house soon anyways."

"Okay, well see you soon then I guess." Kate started to make her way towards the ocean. Nika watched every step she took. What the hell was Nika thinking? She thought she hates this girl. And she has a boyfriend from crying out loud. Her and Kate were starting to get close and the only way for Nika to push these 'feelings' aside is if she gives her the cold shoulder.

It was around 5PM and all the girls decided to go out to eat. They had reserved a private room since there were so many of them there wasn't a big enough table for all of them to sit. There were 7 at three tables and 8 at one. Nika and Kate sat at the same table alongside Aubrey, Monika, Paige, Caitlin, and Azzi. Nika and Kate sat across from each other.

There were a few UConn girls at the table and Kate has been meaning to get closer to them a lot more. Kate took this as a perfect opportunity to talk to Aubrey since they were sitting right next to each other.

Nika was chatting with the rest of the table but she continuously kept directing her eyes back towards Kate talking to Aubrey. Why wasn't Kate talking to her, why Aubrey? Nika kept trying to push back the feeling of jealousy but her mind would not let her. Nika decided to excuse herself.

"I'm going to go use the bathroom."

"Are you okay twin, want me to come with you?"

"No it's fine Paige, thanks though." Paige was Nika's twin, she could tell when something was wrong. Paige decided to let it slide though so Nika wouldn't get pissed off. Caitlin, on the other hand had something spark in her mind when Nika said she had to use the bathroom. Caitlin knew that Kate was so locked in on her conversation so Kate hadn't heard a single word that they were talking about at all.

"Hey Kate, sorry to interrupt you and Aubrey but can you come to the bathroom with me?"

Kate hesitated. "Yea sure, sorry I'll be right back. I guess it works out perfectly because I have to go too."

Caitlin and Kate were right outside the bathroom door when Caitlin 'changed' her mind. "Actually I don't think I need to go, are you still gonna go?"

"Yea, you can go back to the table, I'll see you in a bit."

When Kate walked into the bathroom, it was empty besides her eyes catching Nika who was staring at the mirror. "Hey Nika." But Nika ignored her.

When Kate got out of the stall and started washing her hands, she noticed Nika was still there, standing in the same position as before.

"Nika are you okay, you've been standing in the same position for like 5 minutes." Nika turned to look at Kate and she decided at this moment not to give Kate the cold shoulder. Nika noticed that Kate genuinely cares about her. It's not everyday Nika finds that. Even from her boyfriend. Everybody just 'cares' for her because of her looks and Nika wanted people to realize that she's so much more than her looks.

"Yea I'm good I honestly don't even know why I'm in here."

"You just probably needed a break or alone time for yourself. And I totally get that, everyone needs a break. Even if it's somewhere random like right now in a restaurant restroom."

"I'm sorry Kate."

Kate furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "What are you sorry for?"

"I'm sorry for that one game. I acted like such a jerk and I handle the situation terribly. I shouldn't have pushed you and I shouldn't of said some things."

Kate took a step closer to Nika, and instead of pushing her like she once did, she grabbed both of Nika's hands. She tried to look into Nika's eye's but her eyes were staring at the ground. "Hey look at me." Kate moved her right hand and lifted Nika's chin up so now they were both looking at each other. "It's okay, I forgive you. It was wrong of me to push you. And besides I don't speak Croatian so it's not like I knew what words you were saying to me." The both of them just laugh for a moment. "Now should we head back to the table?"

Nika nods. "Yea we should probably get back before they call a search team for us."

As they were walking back to the table, the only thing Kate could focus her attention on was Nika. Something was there that wasn't there before. Kate Martin was falling for Nika Mühl. Curse you Caitlin Clark. You were right.

The rest of the dinner Kate's eyes kept glancing back at Nika. Caitlin had noticed this and was kicking her feet like a little girl every time her best friend laid eyes on the Croatian.

When they all arrived home, Kate was debating whether or not she should tell people.

After a few minutes of debating Kate decided she was going to tell a few people. This could be a great mistake.

After a few minutes, the 5 girls arrived. Kate chose the movie theater because it was soundproof so nobody from the outside could hear. Also because nobody has used it yet. They all rushed down to where Kate was sitting in the front.

"I'm so excited because I know exactly what this is about."

"Shut up Clark, don't assume things." Kate hated to admit that Caitlin was right.

"Fine, but I know you know I'm right"

"Okay, where do I start?" Kate was so anxious and nervous to tell them all. These were some of her closest friends in the house and she hoped they would all understand and accept Kate for falling for Nika.

"So uhm, I just wanted to thank you Paige and Caitlin for rooming me and Nika together."

Paige's eyes widened. "We didn-"

"I'm not stupid Paige, I know you guys roomed us together yourselves. But I just wanted to thank you for it. Because its made me realize something." No one let out a breath. "What I realized is, there are things I feel for Nika that I thought I shouldn't feel. I know it seemed so quick for me to start developing a crush for Nika but when I'm with her, I feel things I haven't felt in such a long time. I know it sounds stupid because we just hated each other. But even before then when we versed UConn, things just always felt different with her."

Everyone just stood there silent with there eyes widened and jaws dropped. Well except one person. Caitlin. Caitlin tuned out of the conversation the moment she heard Kate said the word Nika. Now Caitlin was just dancing and jumping up and down like a maniac. "I knew it! I literally called it!"

"Clark sit down."

"Wait what is she talking about?" Aaliyah turned back to Kate even more confused than before.

"Well after the call we had on our way to here, Caitlin told this ridiculous story that me and Nika would have an enemies to lovers trope. I told her that it was stupid but it's happening before my eyes. At least to me."

Paige started to laugh. "That has got to be the stupidest thing I've heard Caitlin, and that's coming from me. But hey if its really happening, than I'm not mad."

Kate was shocked at that news. "Wait so are you guys really not mad at me?"

Gabbie put a hand on Kate's leg. "No we're not mad at you, are you crazy? We all love you Kate."

"Thanks guys."

"Wait just one more thing." Hannah paused before she found the correct words she wanted to say. "Are you in love with her?"

"Oh noooo. No offense. I don't know if it's just a spark or what. But I really wanted to tell you guys incase this 'attraction' did grow and so you guys can tell me things I do or she does when I don't notice."

"Well either way, I ship you guys."

"Thank you." They all went into a group hug. Kate felt weight off her shoulders. Kate still needed to figure out how big or small of a crush this was towards Nika.

Since they were already down there, they decided to put the movie theater to use and watch 'My Girl.'

The rest of the girls were all in the living room just chilling, watching tv, and going on TikTtok live. Everything was going good until they heard the doorbell ring. Since Nika was already up she told everybody that she was going to answer it.

When she opened the door, her face went into shock. "What the fuck." Nika screamed this out loud which made everyone's head turn. The last person she expected to see was standing before her right there on the porch. Dayton.
