Arguments and Compliments

It was now evening of the following day and the Iowa team had arrived at the house. All of them looked up in shock with their mouths open. The photos really don't do this three story house justice.

"Welp everybody, this is home for the next month." Hearing those words come out of Caitlin's mouth just made their jaws drop further because this wasn't some fantasy. They really were staying here for the next month. Caitlin turned around seeing them all still frozen. "Can you guys snap out of it? We've got a shitload of suitcases to bring up and I'm not spending any more time getting them in the house than I have to."

"Like you'll be doing any of the work." Everyone laughs at Hannah's comment.

Once they had finished getting all the suitcases in the house, everyone sat down on the massive couch until they heard multiple cars outside beeping non-stop. The UConn girls had arrived. They had all stepped outside onto the porch as they saw the girls all exiting the cars.

"Hey can you guys help us bring this stuff in?" Paige yelled.

"We should've arrived here after they did" Kate mumbled under her breath only for the Iowa girls to be able to hear.

Once all the UConn suitcases had got in the house, everybody huddled around the living room to see who they will be rooming with. Since there weren't enough bedrooms for everyone to get their own individual rooms, there will be two people in each room.

"Alright everybody listen up." Paige ordered. "In my hand I have the paper of who will be your roomie for the next month. One UConn and one Iowa girl will be sharing a room together. And I don't want to hear any complaining."

Kate didn't mind who she would get bunked with. She just wanted to get to know them all more. She just prayed it wasn't Nika.

Paige cleared her throat. "Me and Caitlin, Gabbie and Aaliyah, Hannah and Caroline, Molly and Azzi, Nika and Kate" Every word Paige said after that just felt like a blur to both Kate and Nika. Why did the rest of the group seem so unfazed? No one even batted an eye or questioned when they heard Nika and Kate would be rooming together.

Once Paige announced who everyone will be bunking with, a furious Nika comes up to Paige

"What the fuck Paige"

"What the fuck what?"

"Don't play stupid with me. You set me up so me and Kate are magically rooming together." Nika was trying to stay as calm and quiet as she could so nobody else could overhear their conversation

"I swear me and Caitlin did a spin the wheel on FaceTime and you and Kate got picked. I wouldn't lie to you twin." Nika rolled her eyes and just stormed off.

Kate was starting to get hungry and decided to check the fridge to see if there was any food. When she opened it, it was empty. It was kind of dumb of her to assume there would be food in there. "Hey does anyone want to run to the grocery store with me to get some food?"

Paige saw this as a perfect opportunity for Nika and Kate to talk. "Nika come to the store with us to get some food. I promise you won't have to talk to Kate."

Nika scoffed. "Fine."

Dorka let Kate drive her car to the grocery store. Beside Kate was Sydney and in the back was Paige and Nika.

They had been listening to Kate's playlist and 'Happiness Is A Butterfly' by Lana Del Rey came on. The song had grabbed Nika's attention as it was one of her favorite songs.

"Who's playlist is this?" Nika asked

Sydney turned her head to respond to Nika. "It's Kate's"

"Good music taste"

Kate just kept looking straight, not responding. Although her face remained normal, Kate felt her stomach drop. Did Nika really just compliment her? Why is she getting butterflies from the girl she hates when she complimented her?

Paige looked down trying to hide the smirk that was appearing on her face. This failed as Nika had noticed.

"What Paige?"

"Nothing"

When they arrived into the store, they were debating on what would be the most convenient way to get everything they needed and fast. They first thought that everyone should go their separate ways but none of them wanted to get lost in an unfamiliar area. So they decided to go half and half. And thank god everyone was wearing sweats because it was cold as hell in there.

"Okay I'll go with Sydney and Kate and Nika go together alright?"

"Whatever you say boss."

"Thanks Kate."

Couldn't their luck just get any better?

Paige and Sydney got out of there as soon as possible so they didn't have to deal with Kate and Nika causing a scene in public. This was the first time Nika and Kate have been alone.

To break the silence, like the nice girl she is, Kate decided to speak up first.

"So...I guess we should start looking at the group chat and see what everyone needs, yea?"

"I guess" Kate tried her best not to lose her mind from Nika's dry and full of attitude response.

They had been walking through the store for about 10 minutes now, surprisingly they hadn't killed each other yet but that was because neither of them were talking. As they were scanning through the snack aisle, one item in specifically grabbed Kate's attention.

"Holy shit cosmic brownies. Should we get them?" Kate asked Nika while holding the box of cosmic brownies up.

"What are those?"

"They're cosmic brownies. Have you never heard of them?"

"No. We don't really have that in Croatia."

"Yea but you've been in the U.S. for quite some time, no?"

"Yea but I said I never fucking heard of them!" Nika's voice started to raise because of how quickly she can get furious. Despite hating the girl, she felt bad when she saw the look on Kate's face when she accidentally yelled at her.

"Sorry, but yea I've never heard or seen those things a day in my life."

"Well would you like to try them?"

"I don't really eat much processed junk food, but I guess I'll try them."

Kate was trying to hide her smile. What the fuck was wrong with her? Why is Nika making her feel this way?

After that conversation, Nika and Kate hadn't really talked much afterwards. It was around 9:30 and the store closed at 10. So all four of them decided to meet up at the cash register and pay. Whatever everyone wanted from the store was what they would have to pay Paige back. Also, so it wouldn't take more time, the girls at home had put all their suitcases into their rooms.

"So how did your guy's expedition go you guys?" Sydney looked at Paige knowing her comment would make Paige on the verge of laughing out loud.

"It went okay. Can you guys believe Nika had never heard of cosmic brownies before?"

This had caught Paige off guard. "What?! Nika you've never heard of cosmic brownies? We're twins, how did I not know this about you?"

"I don't know they just don't have them in Croatia. Even in the U.S. I've just never seen them"

"Wow. Well I'm sorry you don't know what awesomeness tastes like."

"Whatever. Thanks for ratting me out Kate." Nika had said kind of jokingly.

"It's all my pleasure."

Paige and Sydney looked at each other with smirks on their faces when the two girls weren't paying attention.

Once they had arrived back at the house, everyone had helped bring the groceries in while the four girls started to get situated into their rooms. The only good thing about sharing a room was at least there were two beds in each room.

"What side of the room do you want?" Nika asked Kate.

"I guess the right side."

Nika starts making her way to the right side of the room and plops down on the bed.

Kate mumbles under her breath. "Bitch"

It was now around midnight and Kate and Nika had both finished unpacking. They were both snacking on some pizza the girls had ordered while they were gone at the grocery store.

"I'm gonna go take a shower." Nika started to get up and head into their bathroom. Oh yea, a bathroom was connected to their room for them to share.

"Okay I'm just going to take one after you."

Kate had been relaxing on her bed for 45 minutes and Nika still hadn't came out of the bathroom. Kate was about to rip her ears off because for the past 45 minutes she had to listen to Nika sing off key and off timing from the songs she was listening too. Kate was getting fed up with this and started to bang on the door.

"Hurry the fuck up other people have to get into there too. You're going to waste all the hot water."

"I'm almost done. Besides, shouldn't you like the cold water? It resembles you." Kate was about to lose it. If there's anyone Nika should be calling a cold person, it should be herself.

"Shut your fucking mouth and hurry the fuck up before I knock this door down."

"Do it, you won't." And Nika was right. If Kate knocked the door down-not that she couldn't, she would see a sight that would literally blind her.

It had been another 15 minutes and the door to the bathroom had finally opened. Kate almost forgot how to breathe for a minute when she saw Nika. Nika's hair was wet and was flowing down her shoulders perfectly. She had grey sweats on and a black sports bra which revealed her very defined abs.

"Your turn to use the bathroom now."

"Uh-uhm yea." Kate had lost her train of thought. "Thanks for finally getting out its practically morning already."

"Whatever"

Nika had been scrolling through Tiktok for a few minutes until Kate's music started to play. It had grabbed her attention. How could someone who's such a bitch have great music taste. Those two categories do not belong together. What caught her attention even more was when she could hear Kate's voice singing along to the songs. Sure Kate's voice wasn't like Beyoncé or Ariana Grande, but, it was a voice Nika wouldn't mind listening to. Who knew even bitches could have a secret talent?

Kate had came out of the bathroom a few minutes later and was wearing an Iowa WBB sweatshirt and black Nike pro shorts. Nika had examined the outfit but couldn't stop looking near, well, looking near Kate's ass.

Kate hadn't seemed to notice and went over towards the door where the light switch was. "Do you want me to turn the lights off?"

"Yea I don't really give a fuck" Kate was taken aback by Nika's snarky comment.

"Why do you have to be such a bitch about it?"

"Because all you've been doing is asking about my approval do it I don't fucking care what you decide to do!"

"Well I'm sorry I care and take peoples feelings into consideration. I know you don't know much of that."

"God stop acting like a little child. Do it I'm not your mother you don't have to ask me for approval all the damn time. If I don't want the lights off than I'd say that or I'd turn them back on myself."

The rest of the group was awoken by the yelling between the two girls. They were all standing outside of Nika and Kate's bedroom. All of them being sneaky had been successful considering Nika and Kate could only hear the bickering towards each other. The argument had gone on for a few more minutes and didn't seem like it was going to be stopping anytime soon.

"Goodjob Caitlin. Look at what has happened" Hannah said.

"It's going to get there I promise just give it a few days. I'm certain it will die down and things will get better." But was Caitlin certain? Caitlin really had no idea if her plan would be successful or unsuccessful. She just needed to hope and pray everything would go well.

The argument had died down and everybody started to make their way back to their rooms.

It was now around 2AM and Nika had just finished using the restroom. She had noticed that Kate looked like she was shivering a little bit because she had not gotten under her blankets. Nika went over to her bed and grabbed her UConn blanket. She went back to Kate's bed and laid it on her. "Goodnight." Nika had whispered as she made her way back to her bed and fell asleep.

I had no idea whether this chapter would come out

tonight to tomorrow but I had more time than I thought to write it

I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter. It was prob my fav one

to write so far.
