Camp Day, and KK

Kate, Gabbie, and Caitlin, dropped Hannah off at her dorm and made their way over to their apartment. It was now the afternoon of the following day and to say they were exhausted would be an understatement.

During the rest of the car ride, the rest of the girls tried to hype up Kate but it was no use. Her eyes just continued to linger on the outside world. Seeing everything pass by just as quickly as that vacation felt. But when she walked into her apartment, it was like none of that mattered anymore.

The apartment smelt like home. Everything looked the exact same as when they left. It was like they were never gone. As much as Kate would hate to admit it currently, it was so refreshing to step back inside.

"Home sweet home." Caitlin took a big sigh like how a main character of a TV show would. The three girls just stood in the doorframe of the front door that looked into the living room and kitchen just standing there for a moment. Taking it all in.

Kate made her way into her room and immediately belly flopped onto her bed. She stayed there for a moment, dreading to get back up. She turned around and sat up on her bed. Looking around her photo filled room, she noted that she would have to make adjustments to the pictures on her wall. New photos will be filled. Many from the vacation, mainly photos of her and Nika though.

The blonde girl looked up at the ceiling already reminiscing on the times for the trips. Kate had a big issue with time and growing up. Looking back at those photos filled with love and adoration could take a toll on her mental health right now. The staring at the ceiling didn't last for long when she felt her phone countlessly buzzing.

Kate felt herself forming a smile as she read those text messages from the Croatian. It was like her fingers were controlling her because they immediately hit the FaceTime button before Kate could even think.

The FaceTime couldn't even ring one time before Nika immediately picked up. "Hi my gorgeous baby." Nika was currently in the bathroom and it looked like she just got out of the shower. Damn was she breathtaking. Her hair was wet and the only thing covering her body was a white towel.

"Hi Nika I miss you so much." Kate was a little bit nervous right now. This was the first time either of the girls were talking to each other not in person. It was something they would both have to get used to though because they're now a long distance relationship. "I see you just got out of the shower?"

"How'd you know?" Nika joked as she received a giggle from the blonde. "I was thinking of you the whole shower. I was in there for like a good 40 minutes washing myself off from that car ride. It feels so weird not having my other half- you right now."

Kate awed at that comment. "I haven't showered yet we just got back like 5 minutes ago but there's a 100% chance I'll be thinking of you as well. I completely forgot to ask but how was your car ride?"

"It was okay. The girls could see I was upset leaving you so they did everything in their ability to try and cheer me up but that didn't really work. I just wish I could see you again. How was your car ride?"

"To be completely honest, mine was completely dreadful I just couldn't get my mind off of you-"

"Me and Gabbie are going to the grocery store if you wanted to come." Kate looked up and saw Caitlin storm into her room. Kate rolled her eyes at the girl and Caitlin could tell she interrupted something. "Oh is that Nika? Tell her I said hi." Nika says hi to the girl as Caitlin walks out of the room, able to tell Kate did not want to go shopping right now.

"Sorry about that babe." Kate hears Nika laughing from the other side of the phone. "I know it seems quick already but I already want to see you again. I don't like the feeling of not having your physical touch on me 24/7 now."

Nika fully agreed with Kate. She missed the girl as well and she would do anything she could do to see her again. Soon. Nika pondered for a second when she thought of the perfect idea. "What about when both of our basketball camps are over. You come to Connecticut for a day or 2 and then because I have to see them for the summer, you come with me to Croatia for a few weeks before both of our schools starts. I'll pay for everything."

Nika was a little nervous proposing this idea but it was the first 'realistic' thing she thought of. It was a big risk asking that to Kate but she knew it was a good risk to take when she was the smile forming on Kate's face.

"I fucking love that idea babe. But its okay though I'll pay for my own flights though, I don't want you spending money on me."

"Its okay, I proposed the idea. You're a princess baby, I need to treat you like one. What charmer am I if I don't give you everything you deserve?" Nika lifted her phone from the bathroom counter and started to make her way towards her room.

Kate was caught off guard when she saw Nika remove her towel and all she could see was Nika's bare body. Although her eyes did widen just a little bit, that didn't last very long because it wasn't like she hadn't seen Nika naked before. Still she just didn't want to mention it up to the Croatian because Nika didn't seem to care.

"You like what you see?" Nika stared into her phone noticed the girl on the other end completely staring as Nika was putting a black sports bra on and Blue UConn pants.

Kate began to choke on her words for a minute. "Don't play with me babe. You know that answer already. I miss seeing it in person already." Kate had a perfect view of Nika's room. She began examining it realizing that this is the first time she's ever seen Nika's room. There was posters of music artists, basketball players, her family and friends, a Croatian flag, some bobbleheads of TV characters, and one thing that caught her attention was the basketball Nika and Kate got matching of.

"Watcha thinking about babe?"

"Its just that you have the matching basketballs we bought on your shelf." Nika turned around and smiled rethinking about that perfect day between the two girls.

"Oh yea. It was the first thing I put up when we got home. It sounds stupid but its a memory I'm going to cherish forever."

"It doesn't sound stupid at all baby. I'll be putting mine somewhere soon. I just need to rearrange and put up knew photos on my walls and I'll find space for the ball."

"Do any of those photos include me?"

Kate rolled her eyes at the girl playing with her. "You already know the answer to that question Nika. Literally 90% of the photos are just you and me." Kate could see Nika's eyes sparkle just a little bit more hearing those words come out of Kate's mouth. All was going well when Kate suddenly realized something.

"Shit Nika!" Nika's face changed in a split second. It went from a happy glow on her face to the most worried face Kate has ever seen.

"What baby? What's wrong?"

"I just realized we never did our 1v1 at Myrtle Beach." Kate saw Nika put her hand to her heart and sighing in relief.

"Jesus you scared the shit out of me Kate I was worried something was wrong. But yea I still want to do that 1v1 with you. Maybe if we have time in Connecticut we can play there or we can play on the basketball court I grew up playing on in Croatia."

Kate smiled at the offer. "That sounds great babe."

"Well I'll let you go shower or do whatever you have to do since you just got home. I'll book your flights today or tomorrow-definitely before the week ends and I'll let you know. I'll call or text you later. Bye princess."

"Bye baby." When Nika hung up the FaceTime, Kate immediately got some clean clothes out of her closet and made her way to the bathroom. It was now Kate's turn to spend 40 minutes in the shower and just think about everything.

Storrs, Connecticut

When the FaceTime call ended, Nika couldn't help herself but smile around her apartment. Nika lived with Paige, Aaliyah, and technically Azzi. Azzi actually didn't live there but since she was around so much, it was basically her second home. Since its an hour difference between Connecticut and Iowa, it was now dinner time. They were all exhausted and agreed to get takeout.

When Nika walked into the living room, she saw the three girls laying on the couch. Paige had her arm around Azzi and was arguing with Aaliyah. But that arguing seemed to come to a stop when they saw Nika's appearance.

"Who got you smiling like that twin?" Nika's face immediately changed into a strict face. She didn't notice she was still smiling and flipped off Paige. "It was my girl Kate wasn't it?" Paige got the answer she wanted from Nika's silence.

"What are you and Aaliyah even fighting about anyways?"

Aaliyah sat up straight and raised an eyebrow to Paige with a devilish smirk. "That's a good question Nika, why don't you just ask Paige."

Paige's mouth was agape now and kept looking back and forth between the two girls. "Because I want to watch Love and Basketball but my girlfriend and Lilli want to watch The Wilds. Like what even is The Wilds, it sounds so stupid?"

"Honey, we've all seen Love and Basketball a million times. You literally watched it twice on our trip back up here. The Wilds seems so interesting. 9 girls get in a plane crash and end up getting trapped on an island? It sounds like it would make us be on the edge of our seats the whole time!"

Paige looked up at Nika with pleading eyes. Normally, Paige wouldn't interfere and would agree to everything Azzi wants but, Love and Basketball was such a classic. How can you compare that to girls being trapped on an island?

Nika huffed. "I'm in. I'll watch The Wilds. Sorry twin, Azzi's right, we've all seen the movie and we're bound to watch it again sometime this week. Let's just all give this show a chance. If we don't like the first two episodes, we can watch something else."

"Fine I give up. Let's give it a chance I guess." Paige seriously didn't want to watch this show but if it made her girlfriend and friends happy, she guesses she could live with it.

Nika made her way onto the couch next to Aaliyah as Paige pulled Azzi in tighter while Azzi laid her head on Paige's shoulder.

Aaliyah pressed play on Season 1 Episode 1, and not even 5 minutes in, the girls were captivated by the show, including Paige.

They were now at a very intense scene when they heard a knock at the door. This caught everyone by surprised and caused everyone to jump a little. Paige went up to the door to grab their takeout, and immediately went back to her seat on the catch next to Azzi.

The four girls kept watching episode after episode not realizing the time. Throughout the show, all of the girls were growing extremely tired but were so invested. They decided to stop for tonight after Season 1 Episode 7 which meant they only had 3 more episodes left of the season.

Azzi and Paige went back to Paige's room while Aaliyah went to her own. Nika crawled into bed sending one more text to Kate before drifting to sleep.

Nika woke up the next day still exhausted from last night. Today was the teams first day of basketball summer camp and to be completely honest, all of the girls were very excited to get back onto the court. It was going to feel a little bit odd now because the old seniors were now gone and they were meeting the incoming freshmen today. The four girls got ready and decided to head down.

When they walked into the basketball facility, they were greeted with a familiar scent they haven't smelt in so long. But all of the memories came flooding back.

They headed to the locker room were they saw familiar faces such as Ice, Aubrey, and Jana.

"Whos ready for the first day of camp?!" Everyone groaned at Paige trying to get them hype. "Stop being lazy come on its the first day. Maybe if we tick Geno off hell get annoyed and let us go."

Jana scoffed. "You know that's never gonna happen Paige. Plus I'm excited to meet the incoming freshmen. I know we've all seen their Instagram's and follow them but I can't wait to meet them in person."

All of the girls got out of the locker room and saw Geno in the middle with a few girls who looked to be the freshmen.

"Ladies huddle around." He called out. "These are the newest members to our UConn group. Like always they're going to introduce themselves one by one and we're going to listen.

The freshmen seemed nervous Nika thought, but then again Nika was frightened when she was introducing herself though. A girl who seemed so sweet named Ashlynn introduced herself, but the mood of the arena seemed to change in the best way possible when the last person went.

"Alright girly pops, my name is Kamorea Arnold, you can call me KK though. I'm from Wisconsin, I play basketball and I love TikTok. Oh I also love Tru Fru."

Paige's eyes lit up as she heard the mention of Tru Fru. Paige knew that her and KK were going to get along just fine.

The first day of camp went well. It was pretty long but they all survived it. Nika and Paige decided to talk with KK after practice to get to know her a little bit more. Yea they wanted to learn more about the other girls as well but right now they wanted to learn more about KK.

The girls began to talk as they were leaving the facility.

"You know Wisconsin is close to Minnesota right. But lets be clear Minnesota is better?" KK looked up at the blonde with a disgusted look.

"Girl boo, Wisconsin got great cheese what the fuck does Minnesota have? That one lyric from that Lizzo song?"

Both Nika and Paige's jaws dropped. The truth hurts. Literally.

"What about you Nika. You're from Croatia? What's life in Europe like?"

"It's different than America that's for sure. I love Croatia but America is great too. They have air conditioning here, I don't know very hard to compare."

"Better than Minnesota right?"

"Oh for sure."

Paige scoffed at the two girls shaming on her home state. Yea, they were going to get along with each other just fine.
