Kate woke up being peppered with kisses on her face. She woke up to see Nika on top of her.
"Happy birthday princess." Kate gave Nika a sleepy smile. She wrapped her arms around Nika forcing the girl to be connected with Kate's body.
"You remembered?!" Kate was shocked that Nika remembered. Or that she even knew at all. Yea she knew Nika's but she didn't think Nika would care that much to remember hers. Kate has gone through a few years when friends or family members forgot her birthday. So it was nice to know somebody appreciated and cared that much.
"How could I forget?! June 5th, 2000, the day an angel was born." Nika kissed Kate and could feel her smiling into the kiss. "Come on lets go downstairs." Nika grabbed Kate's hand and started dragging her to the downstairs. As soon as Nika let go of Kate's hand, Kate was immediately tackled by none other than Caitlin Clark.
"Happy birthday K! Get drunk tonight." Caitlin held Kate in a very tight hug. Caitlin was a very passionate person and she loved when it was other peoples birthdays. She wanted to make sure the person felt seen and had the best day ever.
"Thanks Clark. But please, you're suffocating me right now. I would like to make it to 25 before I die in your arms right now." Caitlin was stilling hugging Kate but not as strongly now so the blonde could breathe. "Nika beat you to it though saying happy birthday to me." Ever since the first year Caitlin and Kate met, they made sure they were the first to say happy birthday to each other. They would have sleepovers to make sure they were the firsts. I guess not this year though.
"I don't mind not being the one saying happy birthday to you first if it meant Mühl said it to you first." Caitlin and Kate separated from the hug and smiled for a moment before everyone else in the house started to say happy birthday to her.
Kate started making her way to the kitchen where she saw Ice making breakfast. As soon as she saw Kate she immediately went up to her.
"Happy birthday Money Martin!" Ice embraced Kate in a hug.
"Thank you Ice."
"I hate to be the debbie downer but, would you mind sitting in the living room. You cannot see what I am making right now." Kate would be suspicious if anyone else said something like this to her. But it was Ice so Kate knew she was cooking something up for her. She just didn't know what.
Kate went to the living room and turned on the TV. It was fairly cool in the house but Kate was being welcomed with warmth from the sweatshirt Nika gave to her a few days ago. This was now Kate's favorite sweatshirt. She honestly forgot about all of her old ones. Not long after Kate sat down did Nika plop right down next to her on the right side.
"So what are your plans for today? Do you have any or want us to plan something for you?" Kate appreciated how much Nika cared for her and her big day. Honestly, Kate wasn't the kind of person who liked to do something big to celebrate. She cared more about the people to celebrated with than where she was actually celebrating.
"To be honest, I actually don't have any plans for today besides going on FaceTime with my parents. I'm not one to go big or go home when it comes to my birthday. I rather spend my time enjoying my company. But you and the girls are welcomed to surprise me or something."
Nika smirked signaling Kate to move closer to her. Nika's face move to Kate's ear. Kate could feel her breath on her neck which sent her to feel paralyzed for a second. "Don't worry princess, I'll make sure this is a night you'll never forget." Nika backed away and winked at Kate.
Damn, how can someone who's so soft also be this freaky?! Nika and Kate were staring at each other intensely with sparks still flickering in their eyes, but the hot tension between the two girls was quickly interrupted when Ice came over with a tray of Kate's favorite breakfast. Now this was the best gift Kate could ever get.
"Holy shit Ice. Waffles?! French Toast, bacon?! Coach Bluder is going to make me work overtime when I get back to Iowa." The three girls laughed at Kate's comment. Kate's laugh was partially true because now she genuinely was scared shitless when Bluder will see how out of shape they all are. This trip was ending soon and had about a week left. The only basketballs Nika and Kate touched were the ones in Dick's Sporting Goods.
Ice parted ways giving the two girls on the couch alone time. The group knew how much Nika and Kate appreciated their alone time and how much more affectionate they are with each other when they're alone. It's not like they're on opposite sides of the room when there are other people, it just feels more sweet and sentimental like this.
Kate was watching the TV but the only thing Nika seemed to be able to pay attention to was Kate. She was twirling Kate's hair just admiring the beauty Kate had. The way her lips slightly curve upward when she's watching TV. It didn't even matter what she was watching. She was just someone who enjoyed. Or how Kate's freckles stood out much more in the summer. When Nika would verse Kate, she couldn't tell she had freckles. Now she couldn't miss them.
Kate turned her head and slightly tilted. "Why are you looking at me like that?" Kate was smiling although she had a mouthful of food in her mouth. She loved how much Nika loved to stare at her. Today just felt especially special.
"No reason." Nika smiled, still twirling Kate's hair. "I just don't know how I ended up with someone as great and loving as you. I love waking up next to you every morning and seeing your sleepy eyes and smile or your raspy morning voice. I just want to take it all in before we can never have those moments again for a few months."
Kate glanced back at the TV for a moment, pausing it before turning back to Nika. "Baby, if we talk about this right now, I'm going to start crying. I really don't want to think about that." Kate set her tray down on the coffee table and brought Nika into her where the proximity was non- existent. Nika's leg started to shake continuously, but Kate started to rub up and down Nika's thigh to calm it down.
"Me and you Nika, we're a forever type of love. 9/10 times long distance doesn't work. But we're that 1/10. Don't overthink it too much right now. We still have a week left and I want to spend every moment with you." Nika immediately snugged her face into Kate's shoulder.
"You really do know how to see the good in everything Kate." Kate chuckled lightly and continuously kissed the top of Nika's head. It pained Kate too, knowing that they only have a week left, but she didn't want to think about that just yet.
Nika and Kate spent half an hour watching TikTok on Kate's phone until Paige and Caitlin went up to them. The two girls had strict faces on which caused Nika and Kate too look at each other confused.
"Kate get your best fit on, we're all taking you out somewhere?" Kate was seriously trying not to life seeing Paige be as serious as she can be. Paige was such a goofball it was bizarre to see her as stern and strict.
"Can I know where at least?"
Paige and Caitlin looked at each other. Gosh they looked like they were security for a nightclub or something.
"Just trust us and you'll be fine K."
"Whatever you say Clark."
Kate went upstairs to her room. Despite Paige telling her to get her best fit on, she didn't really specify if it had to be fancy or not. In her opinion, Kate's best fits were with sweatpants and sweatshirts. But Kate assumed to not wear something lazy like that, so she decided on a black polo shirt with white cargo pants and black shoes. Something not to too fancy but not too lazy.
When Kate walked downstairs after getting dressed, she was awaited by the whole group. Everyone was clapping and cheering for her like she was the Queen of England or something. "Thank you, thank you, but I'm actually not signing any autographs now. Only photos for the paparazzi." Everyone laughed at Kate's comment and kept cheering for her.
"You look fanc-Y dang Kate." Paige chuckled lightly slapping Kate on the back.
"Well you said my best fit and I didn't know how nice to dress."
"I'm only kidding Kate, don't worry you look phenomenal. You put all of our outfits to shame." Kate rolled her eyes knowing damn well Paige's style is untouched. The way she could blend feminine and masculine clothes together so well...Kate doesn't know how she does it.
"Is everyone ready?" Everyone gave a thumbs up or a 'yea' by Caitlin's question. Kate seemed to miss a part because she didn't know who she was riding with.
"What? Who am I riding with?" As soon as Kate said that, Nika had grabbed her hand and dragging her by her side to get into Dorka's car.
Kate was just about to open the door to the backseats before her hand got swatted away by none other than Nika.
"You know how this works already."
Kate sighed and gave up. "I know."
The car ride was a mix of quiet and talkative. Besides Nika, Kate, and Dorka in the car, Molly and Aubrey were also in it. A very random group but it somehow made sense.
"Yo Kate!" Kate looked away from the window and saw Dorka calling her name.
"Whats up 'Dork'?" Kate loved calling Dorka, Dork. Because Dorka was a dork. She was silly and a breath of fresh air. She could be the goofiest in a laid back situation, and also be the most serious in a serious one.
"Despite us already singing happy birthday to you, in English, I want to sing it to you in my native language. Hungarian."
Kate's eyes lit up from the words that came out of Dorka's mouth. The only time Kate can recall people singing happy birthday to her in a different language was when it was her birthday in her Spanish class and all the kids had to sing.
As Dorka was singing happy birthday to Kate, Nika was thinking why didn't she think of that? Singing it in your native language?! That's so clever. Watch out Juhvas, Mühl is going to out sing you. Not in the car of course. Nika doesn't want anyone to hear her pitchy singing other than Kate.
"Thank you Dorka, that was so sweet. That's going to make me cry."
Kate put her hand on Nika's shoulder which caught Nika off guard. Kate whispered quietly to Nika. "So, when do I get to hear you sing it to me in Croatian? I can't wait to hear that beautiful voice of yours."
Nika started to panic. Right now was definitely not the best time for everyone to see how great she can sing.
"I'm only kidding babe, just having you is a gift. I won't force you to do anything you don't want to. You know that." Nika's lips turned into a soft smile.
"I'll sing it to you princess, don't worry about that. You just might need to buy earplugs."
They were in the car for a few more minutes. When Kate looked out the windows, it looked like her eyes were about to pop out of her head.
"A wax museum?! You guys brought me to a wax museum?!" Everyone looked at each other shitless. No one for a moment, had even thought about how Kate might react.
"I fucking love it!" Everyone let out a sigh of relief when they heard Kate say that.
The group of girls were having a blast at the Wax Museum. It was way more fun and entertaining than I think any of them would've thought. They took photos with legitimately every single wax person. Out of almost 30 girls, not one of them have ever been to a museum like this before so it was a first day experience for everyone.
After a couple of hours in the museum, they decided to pickup dinner and eat it at the house. They decided on getting Chinese takeout since it was pretty cheap (even for 29 people) and everyone enjoyed at least something from there.
"Damn Kate you're really going at it." Kate looked up at Paige from her comment. She then looked around to see everyone looking at her. Kate wiped her mouth with a napkin, embarrassed that everyone was witnessing her eating like there was no tomorrow.
"I guess I just really like sesame chicken." Everyone laughed as Kate went back to quickly eating and finishing her food. Kate heard someone continuously chuckling to her left so she turned over and gave the person a death glare.
"Don't give me that look princess, you look so cute eating." Let's be honest, Nika thought Kate looked cute doing anything. Kate could be taking a massive shit and Nika would be in awe of it. But hey, at least she could never embarrass herself in front of Nika.
"I look like a five year old eating babe, what's so cute about that?"
'Anything you do is cute. Don't ask me how or why, it just is."
After everyone finished there meals, everyone was still sitting at the table chatting. There were arguments between who is going to win the next Iowa and UConn games, who's going to win the WNBA championship, and even debates about whether a hotdog is a sandwich or a hamburger. (Its neither trust.)
To lighten the mood, Ice and Azzi turned off all the lights and started bringing in Kate's cake. Everyone was singing happy birthday to Kate as she looked so joyful by the cake in front of her. Nika took this opportunity to sing Happy Birthday to Kate in Croatian since no one besides the people right next to her would be able to hear her voice. Everyone clapped once the song ended and it didn't take long for Kate to decide what to wish for as she was blowing out the candles. She wished to win the 2024 championship. Sorry Nika.
"Watchu wish for K? I'd say wish for the greatest best friend but I already exist." Kate rolled her eyes at Caitlin's snarky and also very cocky comment.
"You wish I was thinking about you blowing the candles out Clark. I ain't telling though."

Nika and Kate had spent the rest of the night laying in Nika's bed just listening to music. Kate was laying on Nika's chest playing with her fingers.
"I heard you by the way." Kate lifted her head up a little seeing the confused look on Nika's face. "During, when you guys were singing happy birthday to me. I heard you singing it in Croatian Nika. It might sound stupid but I really appreciated that."
"You don't have to try and make me feel better Kate, I know my voice sucks. But it was all for you." Nika started to run her fingers through Kate's hair. This was peace. Just the two of them with no distractions and soft mellow music in the background to fill up the air. It's sad to think all of this will be gone and done soon.
"You know it's crazy to think about. Just a few weeks ago I was in a terrible relationship with someone who made me feel like I'm nothing and that I was worthless. But now, now I'm here with you. I feel so safe when I'm with you, I get to show everyone the amazing and perfect girlfriend I have. I just don't believe it."
Kate sat up a little more and placed a soft gentle kiss on Nika's lips. "Well start believing it baby."
Nika and Kate reconnected their lips once again. The kisses started out soft but they were both quickly hungry for more. Every few seconds their lips would part and they would be look into each others eyes breathless. Kate started to strip Nika's clothes off while Nika started to do the same for Kate.

Nika and Kate spent the night awake. Kate let Nika touch her in places Kate was always so insecure about. But all of her insecurities seemed to go away with the small placement of Nika's lips there. They craved each other in a way none of them have ever felt before. But if only either of them knew what was to come...
