Chapter 42: Epilogue Dominic
Seven Nights of Sin (Penthouse Affair #2)
Three years later The girls said we could drop them off at the schoolâs curb and Presley thirded the motion, saying the building wasnât that big. But I vetoed that idea. No way am I going to abandon them to fumble their own way to their classroom. Maybe in a few weeks . . . or years . . . but definitely not today.
Itâs their very first day of kindergarten, after all. The first time theyâve been away from home all day long without me, Presley, or Francine.
As we escort them through the halls, Iâm fidgeting like crazy, twisting my wedding ring around and around my finger. âYou sure youâve got your lunches in your backpacks? You know what to do if you need to come home?â
âCall Franny,â Emilia answers dutifully. Lacey is already distracted, taking in the colorful posters and noisy crowd all around us with a wide-eyed grin.
âAnd do you remember her number?â
âUm . . .â
âDom,â Presley says. âRelax. The teacher has Francineâs number. And our numbers, and their pediatricianâs, and the National Guardâs . . .â
I frown. âI know that. Itâs just an extra precaution.â
âAnd this is just a schoolâa private school, even,â she says. âItâs only until three. Francine will pick them up and take them home, and weâll see them again tonight.â
âYou say âonly three,â but thatâs six hours away. What if they miss us during the day? What if they need help using the potty?
What if the other kids are mean? What if they donât eat their lunch? You know theyâve been so picky lately. What ifââ
Presley squeezes my shoulder, loving but firm. âHoney. Chill out. Stop acting like weâre throwing them to the wolves.â
âWolves? Can I see?â Emilia asks.
âItâs only a figure of speech, honey. The only wolves around here are at the zoo.â
âIâm perfectly chill,â I say, frowning. âBut we have to be sure theyâre ready.â
âSomehow I donât think theyâre the ones who arenât ready,â Presley teases. âSeriously, they can handle it. Theyâre more than old enough, and they did great in preschool.â
âBut preschool was only a half day. This mightââ
âIâm a big girl,â Lacey says.
âYes, you are, sweet pea. I quite agree.â Presley squats down. âShow me on your hands?â
After thinking for a few moments, Lacey holds up five fingers.
âAnd how many is that?â
Lacey says, âFive,â at the same instant Emilia answers for her. âFive!â
Presley shoots a smile back over her shoulder at me before asking them, âAnd how much do Mommy and Daddy and Franny love you?â
âInfinity!â they both shout, flinging their arms open wide.
âAbsolutely right.â She hugs them, then stands up again. âSee? Theyâre rocket scientists.â She lays her hand gently on my arm.
âWe always knew weâd have to let go sometime.â
Throwing her arms around my hips, Emilia says, âDonât cry, Daddy.â
âYeah, weâre gonna be okay!â Lacey says, trying to reassure me.
I have to laugh at how thoroughly weâve switched roles here. âThanks, you two. But for your information, Iâm not crying. A bug just flew into my eye.â I wipe my sleeve across my face.
Shit. I am totally about to cry. Whatâs happening to me?
âAre you ready, girls?â their teacher calls.
After one last round of kisses, they run inside and the door shuts behind them. If I squint through the frosted glass, I can just barely see the blobs of color that belong to our precious daughters. Then they move farther into the classroom and are lost.
Presley pats my lower back. âPoor thing. Youâre going to be useless at the office today, arenât you?â
âOh, hush,â I grunt.
âBut, seriously, I love this side to you. Itâs adorable.â Taking my hand, she kisses me warmly.
I level her with a heated look. âDid you just call me adorable?â
She chuckles, lacing her fingers through mine. âYes. But donât worry, Iâll cheer you up later.â
Smirking, I raise her hand to my lips to kiss the back of it, right over her exquisite diamond ring. It feels like I gave it to her a whole lifetime ago, and it feels like no time at all. âPromise?â
She beams at me. âAlways and forever.â

My wife was right about one thingâIâm completely useless at the office. Thankfully, my calendar is mostly clear. I suspect that she and Beth had something to do with that fact, like they knew kindergarten drop-off would hit me hard. Hell, I didnât even know it would, but Iâm thankful there are more than a few smart women in my life.
Presley has a busy day today, and so I barely see her after we arrive. Sheâs no longer the director of operations, she now runs the entire international operation, and she has, flawlessly, for two years now.
From my desk, I check her calendar and see that she has a lunch with her friend Bianca in a little while. Bianca got married last spring and is pregnant with her first babyâa little girl. Presley has been saving our girlsâ hand-me-down clothes ever since the gender-reveal party.
My gaze slips past the meetings until I find what Iâm looking for. We have a six oâclock dinner with Presleyâs dad, Grandpa George, along with her brother, Michael, and his fiancé, Elijah.
My days before Presley came crashing into it were filled with work and parental obligations. But since I finally got my head out of my ass and accepted that she was part of my futureâand that I did deserve to be lovedânow my days are filled with family and laughter and so much love, I hardly recognize it.
âKnock-knock,â a familiar voice calls from the door.
âHey. Come on in,â I say, glancing up to spot Oliver lingering at the threshold.
Heâs a little more gun-shy about barging straight into my office without knocking, ever since that time last year he caught me bending Presley over my desk. In our defense, it was after hours, and we assumed everyone was gone for the day. Thankfully, he didnât catch a glimpse of anything more than my bare ass. Though I guess that was enough to traumatize him.
âIs it safe?â he jokes.
I roll my eyes. ââCourse it is. Whatâs up?â
Oliver drops into the chair in front of my desk and shrugs. âPresley set up an eleven oâclock meeting on my calendar saying that I was supposed to come check on you because today was the first day of school drop-off or something?â
I stifle a sigh. She has my entire staff in on this? I would complain, but sadly, they like her more than they like me. And Oliverâs totally a lost causeâheâs wrapped around her finger. Both he and Jess adore her.
âIâm fine. Now go get back to work.â
Oliver stands to his feet, shaking his head. âJeez. Touchy today.â
I grin at his retreating frame. âThanks, Ollie.â
Iâve barely gotten through my next email when thereâs someone else at my door. I hear the click of heels and look up. Itâs my lovely wife.
A smile lifts my lips as I watch her walk toward me. Bypassing the desk, she comes around behind it and slips into my lap.
I grin in surprise when she seats herself on top of me. âHi there.â
âHi.â She presses a quick kiss to my lips.
Sheâs not normally so touchy-feely at the office, and I canât help but wonder if sheâs checking on me too. Iâll be honest, I donât hate it.
âIâm okay, you know?â I raise one eyebrow at her.
She laughs. âI know you are. I just wanted to see if you needed anything before I head out to meet Bianca.â
Tightening my arms around her, I hold her close, and Presley sighs. âJust you.â
She smiles, bringing her lips to mine again. âYou have me.â
âGo have fun at lunch. Iâll just be here sulking, watching the clock.â I sigh for dramatic effect, and she swats my chest.
âYouâre a big baby. I told you Iâll make it up to you later.â She stands and adjusts my tie before she starts toward the door.
âBest intern I ever hired,â I call to her retreating backside, and I hear Presley chuckle.
Itâs the absolute truth. Although, to be fair, Presley was never just an intern. She was the woman who rocked my entire world from the first time I laid eyes on her. And now sheâs mine.
Forever and always.
