Part Title 9
The heroic villainess
No song for today sorry! I can't find a song that goes with the mood of this chapter so...
Sylvia's POV:
I walk into the lounge and see capture target #1 sitting at the head of the table, with a grin that made me wanna smack him. Of course, I couldn't just slap the future king unless I wanted my doom ending to come early.
"How nice of you to visit me your highness," I curtsied. I motioned for Lillian and the maids to bring in the snacks. I didn't know if the prince drank tea or not so I prepared it just in case.
"The pleasure is all mine, after all it's one of my responsibilities to visit my fiancée isn't it?" I froze at the reply.
Since when did he view me as his fiancée? Isn't he supposed to hate the villainess? Although... I haven't been very villainy lately since I was busy practising magic. Shoot, did I just change the plot a bit? No, I couldn't have, it's just that he hasn't seen the heroine yet... Yeah that's all!
The visit was unbelievably long, we didn't have anything to talk about so there was silence for five minutes. It got so awkward that I started talking about studies or anything just to fill the silence. The prince just sat there smiling and staring at me, it was so creepy I nearly choked on my milk. Was there something on my face? I touched my cheeks to see if there was any trace of milk.
"There's nothing there," the prince said. I looked at him, that was the first thing he had said apart from the fiancée sentence.
"I-is that so..." God please save me!
"Do you not like tea?"
"Huh, oh uh, no, it's nothing like that, it's just that I-I," I was stuttering like nobody's business. For god's sake, make actual words you stupid mouth! Before I could finish my sentence a man in a fancy robe came in with a letter.
"Your highness, his majesty asked me to give this to you," he gave the letter to the prince who opened it. I couldn't see the contents but the prince was still doing that creepy smile while reading it. He then folded it and put it back into the envelope.
"It looks like our visit has to end sadly, I have to return to the palace," he said as he got up and handed the envelope back to the messenger. "I bid you farewell my fiancée," he took my hand and kissed it.
I felt my face burning, no one has EVER kissed my hand before, not in both my lives... I feel faint.
When I finally came back to reality, the crown prince had already left.
"Lillian, have some maids clean this, I shall go to the library. Refreshments aren't needed, just inform me when dinner is ready," Lillian nodded as I headed towards the secret room. The crown prince is a head ache enough, I just wanted to find out what's in the book.
Now that I take a closer look at the book, it looks like a diary. The outside is made of leather and its crackled. The pages are old and there are ribbons and pieces sticking out. There's also a big lock on it.
I fiddled with the lock a bit, wondering how to open it without the key. I tried the classic pin in the lock but it didn't work. Maybe I could make a key? But I don't know how... ARGH! This is so annoying! I wish the key would just disappear!
Suddenly, my shadow started snaking up to the lock and devouring it. I was so shocked I stood back. When my shadow dispersed, the lock was no more. Ok... Note to self, be more careful with words...
I opened the book but it was filled with weir writings. It wasn't Japanese nor Rinian. (Rinian was the language of this world)I skimmed through the pages and it was all in an Unknown language. What the hell is this?
"Hey book, why not make yourself readable," I complain. I shut the book hard, resulting in a paper cut.
"OWWW!" I hold my cut finger and used my shadow to heal it. Some of my blood had splattered on the book, which made it glow.
What the hell... I open the book once more and the words started to rearrange themselves. On the first page, the words had already been rearranged.
Congratulations, chosen one. You have successfully opened me. I shall accompany you on your journey to greatness, all you need to do is place your hand on the page.
I was super suspicious of this magical book but I was also curious. After weighing the pros and cons, the cons outweighing the pros, I did as the book did. I know it was stupid but I couldn't help it. When I placed my hand on the book, my palm started to tingle. Soon, the book started to absorb into me. I know that sounds weird but it was literally like I was absorbing the book like it was air.
I couldn't move my hand until the book was completely gone. Soon after, my head felt like it was splitting in two. I screamed in agony, tumbling out of the secret room. I felt like my head was about to explode.
"MISS!" I couldn't see who was calling me but after a minute of extreme pain, I blacked out. When I woke up again, my vision still had spots of white and black. My head still pained but it was only a minor fraction of the pain I was feeling before. I looked around the room, I was tucked in my bed in my nightgown. what the hell had happened?
Soon, Lillian came in with a tray. She looked up at me and dropped the tray on the floor. I covered my ears, the sound was still too loud for me to bear. Lillian rushed towards me and was examining me. A few other maids came in, probably because they heard the noise. Each of them was freaking out about me.
"Go inform the duke and duchess that the lady is awake," lillain ordered. Two maids went out of the room as quickly as they came in.
"Are you ok miss? Ah, you must be famished. Anna, go and get the lady a new tray of food. Make sure it is light on the stomach but nutritious," Lillian was freaking out like she was my mom. Although it was a bit annoying, it felt good that someone was worried about me.
Mother came in five minutes after the maids told her about my waking. She burst through the door and started to touch me, checking if I was okay, after that she hugged me so tight I thought I might suffocate.
"Madam, the lady might feel discomfort if you hold her so tightly," Lillian spoke. Mother realised I couldn't breathe and eased the pressure.
"Oh my dear silver drop, what happened to you, you were found screaming in the library and then you fainted, Tell mother what happened, did something harm you?" My mother looked like she was about to cry from worry. I just hugged her back, it felt like the roles of mother and daughter was reversed but the love was all the same.
"I'm fine mother, I don't remember what happened though, one moment I was reading a book and then then next, I'm in my room," I couldn't tell her about the book or the secret room so I just lied that I forgot. It was way easier to explain and I'm sure they won't be able to say anything if I feign amnesia... I was so wrong about that.
In just a few hours, the ministry of defence visited our house and started to question me. My father and mother were present along with Lillian. This was bad, I didn't mean for this to escalate so much that they thought it was an attempted assassination!
Somebody save me! I sat down on a chair in the guest lounge and opposite me was a man with hair that looks like a flame. My mother and father sat down on the chairs at the side while Lillian was standing behind them.
"Mother, father, what's going on?" I ask, looking at my mother with worried eyes. The red headed man spoke before my parents could even say anything.
"Hello, my name is Mikael Ferdis Redcliffe, Head of the ministry of defence. Don't be worried, I just want to ask you a few questions. For starters, why don't you tell me what happened when you were in the library?" Head of the ministry of defense. so... he's Mason's father!
He looks like a spitting image of Mason. He had the same fiery hair and blue eyes. The only difference was the clear age looks. Even when grown up, mason always had a young looking face but his father looked like one of those hot actors from a blockbuster movie. He should be in his late 30's.
"I... was visited by the crown prince and decided to go to the library to read some books. Then all of a sudden, I blacked out. I don't remember anything that happened afterwards. I woke up confused as to why my parents and maids were acting like this..." Damn it was so hard to think on the spot. All I could do for now was just say I don't remember, that was the only answer that they wouldn't continue questioning me about.
"I see, well that's all for now, if you'd be so kind duke Scilla, I'd like to see the library," father got up and left with Mr mikael. My mother was hugging me close to her.
"Don't be afraid silverdrop, it'll be over soon," she reassured me. To be honest, I was more scared of them finding out about the secret room. That'd lead to more questions and I'm pretty sure they won't take no for an answer.
"Mother... I feel dizzy, I wish to retire," I say. I really needed a nap even though I woke up an hour ago.
"Of course, silver, sleep as much as you like. Lillian, prepare a meal once she is awake."
Lillian picked me up even though I could perfectly walk myself. She even bathed and dressed me and tucked me into bed. Man, I should fake being sick more often. The only thing that would make this perfect is some anime and manga to read.
Soon, I fell asleep. The nap earlier didn't even feel like I was sleeping. It was more like a blink. I open my eyes again to be in the same dark hallways as I met Twilight, only this hallway was more well lit and the only door was at the end...
