Chapter 10
The Educator
Oh my God.
âJesus, Hannahâ I say under my breath. âOh my God!â. It suddenly dawned on me my situation in school.
âThink about what the other students will say if they found out that youâre married to a teacher?â
I was silent.
âHello?â she was trying to get my attention. âAre you still there?â
âI-I need to call you backâ I tell her and drop the call. I swallowed really hard and leaned back. I was trying to catch my breath. My vision was a little blurry. I reach for my phone and start calling Elliot. One or two rings, he switched is off. Heâs probably still with his client. I send him a couple of messages, telling him to call me as soon as possible.
Oh my God. Oh my God.
Hannahâs right. What about my identity as a student? What will people say? Will they assume that Iâm passing my subjects just because my husband is professor?
Suddenly, my phone rings.
It was Elliot calling.
âAre you okay?â he asked I swallowed âDoes the school know?â
âWhat?â
âDoes that school know that you and I are married? Am I going to get expelled?â I asked him hurriedly.
âWhat are you talking about, Eli?â
âElliot!â I say, âlisten to me. I am asking you if the school knows. DO they know about you and me? Do they know that weâre married?â
He sighs, âYes, the school board knows about us. Old fashioned nepotism isnât so bad. Youâre not going to get expelled. You will go and show up at your first class. Thereâs not going to be a problem, Eli. I got youâ he tells me calmly.
âElliot, I swear to God if I donât graduate because of this. I will punch youâ I tell him.
He laughs, âOkay, deal. Listen, I have to go. Finish your breakfast, okay? Can you do me favor? Can you call concierge and ask them which restaurant it best for honeymooners. Iâll let you decide, just reserve us a seat, okay?â
I breathe in, âOkayâ I say as I breathe out.
âThank you, Mrs. Roommateâ he says and ends the call. Tilt my head back and crack my neck. Maybe I should get that massage now. I walk upstairs and call the front desk.
âSheraton Samui Resort, this is Kelly speaking how may I help you?â she greets joyfully.
âHi! This is Mrs. Smith. Iâd like to reserve a table for dinner tonightâ
âSurely, Mrs. Smith. At around what time would you and Mr. Smith be around for dinner? I hear her typing.
âActually, I have no idea which restaurant weâd be having dinner. Maybe you could suggest something?â
âOh yes. We have the Blue Monkey, ocean view and romantic ambiance. Perfect for honeymooners, madam"
I smile âOkay, Iâll reserve a table for two at around seven in the eveningâ I tell her .
She starts typing again, âGot it, madam. Weâll see you tonight. Thank youâ
âThank youâ I drop the call and go downstairs to eat. I sit and I finish my breakfast and place the trolley outside the suite.
As I was about to close the door, a woman in the hotelâs uniform comes up to me and says, âGood afternoon, Mrs. Smith. Here is the service menu for the spa. I have also included a recreational menu. In case you and your husband decide on it. It has the prices as wellâ she smiles and hands me the menu cards. I smile at her and thank her before I close the door.
I had a really good idea. I run upstairs again and call the front desk. Kelly picks up again and says âYes, Mrs. Smith?â
âHi Kelly. I was wondering are the aquatic recreational activities available tomorrow morning?â
âGive me a moment to check, madamâ she says and there was short silence, âYes we have an open slot for the jet ski tomorrow at ten in the morning.
We also have an open slot for parasailing at eleven. We have a slot open for a private tour of island hopping tomorrow at twelve.â
The Educator ï¤Chapter 1: 1 âGreat! Book all three and please keep your line open just in case I decide to add some moreâ I say, âThank you, Kellyâ
âYouâre most welcome, Mrs. Smithâ
Letâs see how Elliot would like it.
