Chapter 28
The Educator
I hear people talking but I see nothing. I could not move anything, not my fingers nor could I open my eyes. I hear people speaking from my left and right side. I could hear Elliot, heâs asking what happened to me, whatâs the treatment, do I have any infections and from Elliotâs tone and the number of consecutive questions he was asking, he was not getting the proper answers.
âI have to deal with a break-in and now my wife is here. Tell me, what is wrong with her?â those were the lost words that I heard before I fell asleep.
âEli?â someone calls, a manâs voice, âEli?â there he goes again. Itâs Elliot. I open my eyes and I see a mahogany finished ceiling. I look down and I see Elliot sitting beside me, my hand in his. I look over to my left and I see a doctor and two nurses. Right next to them, there was an IV stand and a bag with a small plastic tube that leads to a needle that was injected in me.
âElliot?â I call his name faintly. Elliot comes closer to me.
âHiâ he says, âHow do you feel?â
âWhat happened?â I asked, âWhere are we?â
âWeâre in our new suit. There are guards outside. The police are waiting for me at the security room of the hotel and the management will help me file for a police reportâ Elliot starts to say, âThe doctors said you fainted due to stress and low blood sugar. We are still waiting for the other equipment to arrive so that they can conduct other tests, like CT scans because you fell and hit your head on the floor. And because of your age pregnancy tests and STD testing will be conducted as wellâ he tells me.
âCan I get a cup of hot chocolate?â I ask Elliot smiles at me, âSure. Iâll call room serviceâ he says.
The doctor leans over me and says, âIâm Dr. Stevens, Mrs. Smith. I will be attention to your needs and conduct all tests. How do you feel?â
I breathe in, âuhhh nothing, actuallyâ I tell her.
âOkay, nothing is panful? Do you still feel dizzy?â she asks me.
âNoâ I say âOkay. Iâll get back to you as soon as we are able to get the equipment for the hospital in Bangkok to here for the assessments. For now, you should eat and drink fluids.â
I nod. Elliot and Dr. Stevens go to the farther end of the room and start talking. They seem worried because from time to time either of them look over at me. Elliot took one last look before they left my room. I was with the nurses and Elliot went down to check on the progress of the incident. A couple The Educator ï¤Chapter 27: 27 of hours later, Elliot came back with papers in his hands but placed it on the table at the other end of the room. Our room is much more intimate, unlike our villa where we had our separate rooms. We have a big bed, a king-sized bed in fact. Elliot walks over to me a says, âHey, how are you?â he smiles.
I smile back, âIâm good. Howâs everything?â
Elliotâs face falls for a moment but then smiles at me faintly, âWhat do you want for dinner?â he asks.
