"Shifting Dynamics"
Sana Short Imagines
Sana and Y/N had been friends for years, their contrasting personalities creating a unique and long-lasting bond. Now in university, they lived together in the same house, making their daily lives even more intertwined.
One early morning, Sana was up and buzzing with excitement, her voice filling the house as she prepared for the day. Y/N, still nestled in her bed, groaned in annoyance. âSana, why are you so loud?â she mumbled, burying her face deeper into her pillow.
âGet up, Y/N! We need to get going!â Sana chirped, her enthusiasm uncontainable.
Reluctantly, Y/N dragged herself out of bed, grumpily getting ready for the day. As she finished, she noticed something different about Sana but couldnât quite put her finger on it. With a furrowed brow, she found herself staring at her friend, trying to identify the change.
Sana, noticing Y/Nâs intense gaze, raised an eyebrow. âWhat?â
Y/N stepped closer, examining Sanaâs hair, then her face. She gently lifted Sanaâs eyelids, making her eyes go wide, then inspected her makeup. Finally, she even opened Sanaâs mouth and pinched her cheeks, trying to solve the mystery.
âWhat are you doing?â Sana exclaimed, slapping Y/Nâs hands away and rolling her eyes. She quickly started fixing the makeup Y/N had messed up.
Y/N stepped back, still puzzled. âI swear thereâs something different about you today. Am I imagining things?â
Sana felt her cheeks heat up but quickly dismissed Y/Nâs curiosity. âYouâre imagining things. Now, hurry up, or weâll be late.â
Y/N shrugged, turning around to head for the door. âFine, but be quick, or Iâm leaving without you.â
As Y/N walked away, Sana called after her. âWait for me!â She hurried to catch up, a small smile playing on her lips, her secret safe for now.
When they arrived at the university, Y/N parked the car and quickly got out to open the door for Sana, as she always did. She reached for Sanaâs bag, ready to carry it for her, but Sana pulled it away. âI can manage,â she said, her tone firm.
Y/N gave Sana a puzzled look. âAre you sure? Iâve always carried your bag.â
Sana nodded. âWeâre in university now, Y/N. You donât have to treat me like a child.â
Y/N was about to protest, but Sana had already started walking towards the campus entrance. Y/N quickly caught up to her, still perplexed. âAlright, so whereâs your building?â
Sana pointed in the direction of her building. âItâs over there.â
Y/N nodded. âGot it.â
As they walked, Sana suddenly stopped, causing Y/N to bump into her back. âOw! Why did you stop?â Y/N groaned, rubbing her face.
Sana turned around with a sweet smile. âYou donât have to walk me to my building, Y/N. I can go by myself.â
Y/N frowned, now more confused. âBut Iâve always walked you to class.â
Sana sighed, noticing Y/Nâs questioning look. âY/N, weâre grown-ups now. I can manage on my own, and besides, you need to get to your building too. I donât want you to be late for your first period.â
Y/N hesitated. âAre you sure? Itâs really no trouble.â
âItâs not fine, Y/N. Itâs almost time, and I really donât want you to be late,â Sana insisted, trying not to sound suspicious.
Y/N finally nodded, checking the time. âAlright, if youâre sure. See you later, Sana.â
As Y/N walked away, Sana watched her go with a small smile of victory. She then turned and headed towards her building, taking a detour to pass by a specific building, her heart fluttering at the thought of seeing a particular someone.
It was break time, and Y/N was already at the canteen with her friend Bambam. They chatted and laughed as they ate their food, enjoying the break between classes.
Bambam suddenly nudged Y/N and nodded towards the entrance. âHey, thereâs Sana.â
Y/N turned and saw Sana entering the cafeteria. She raised her hand to get her attention. Sana saw them and approached their table with a smile.
âHey, Sana! Take a seat,â Y/N said, patting the spot next to her.
Sana sent an apologetic smile. âI canât eat with you guys today. My classmates invited me to eat with them.â
Y/N glanced at the group of classmates standing behind Sana, who waved cheerfully. Y/N forced a smile and nodded. âOkay, no problem. Weâll catch up later.â
Sana nodded, her smile still apologetic. âIâm really sorry. I promise Iâll make it up to you soon.â
Y/N waved her off. âGo ahead. Have fun.â
Sana thanked Y/N and left with her new friends. As soon as she was out of sight, Y/Nâs mood visibly changed, and she became quieter.
Bambam noticed and decided to speak up. âHey, is it just me, or is there something different about Sana lately?â
Y/N shrugged. âMaybe sheâs just adjusting to the new environment. Let's just eat.â
They continued chatting and eating their food, though Y/Nâs mind was elsewhere. The afternoon classes dragged on, and finally, they were done for the day.
As they walked down the hallway, Bambam wrapped his arm around Y/Nâs shoulder, a wide grin on his face. âYou know, this university is the best.â
Y/N raised an eyebrow. âAnd why is that, exactly?â
Bambamâs eyes sparkled with enthusiasm. âCome on, Iâll show you!â
He dragged Y/N towards the oval, excitement radiating from him. When they arrived, he led her to the bleachers and they sat down.
Y/N looked at him, bored and confused. âWhat are we doing here, Bambam?â
Bambam gave her a playful smile. âJust wait a moment, youâll see.â
Suddenly, a group of women in cheerleading outfits appeared, practicing their routines. Y/N rolled her eyes and turned to Bambam. âReally? This is why you brought me here?â
Bambam raised his hands in defense. âHey, you canât blame me for appreciating some school spirit!â
Y/N sighed, starting to stand up. âIâm going back, Bambam.â
But Bambam pulled her back down. âCome on, just stay for a bit. Itâs not like you have anything better to do.â
Y/N sighed again but decided to stay, leaning back on the bleachers. âFine.â
As they watched the cheerleaders, Bambamâs eyes lit up, clearly enjoying the show. Y/N couldnât help but smile at her friendâs enthusiasm, seeing him thoroughly enjoying the cheerleaders' routine, shaking her head and chuckling at her friend's craziness.
After almost half an hour, a group of men in football uniforms entered the oval. Bambam's excitement vanished instantly. âUgh, football players. Letâs go, Y/N.â
Y/N laughed at his sudden change of mood and was about to leave when she noticed a familiar face not far from their bleachers. She grabbed Bambam's arm to stop him.
âOw, Y/N! Whatâs with the strong pull?â Bambam complained.
Ignoring his protests, Y/N squinted at the familiar figure. âIs it just me, or is that Sana?â
Bambam turned to look. âYeah, thatâs definitely Sana. Whatâs she doing here?â
Y/N rolled her eyes. âHow on earth would I know? We havenât had time together since this morning.â
Bambam shrugged. âGood point.â
Their questions were soon answered when one of Sanaâs friends called out a name. One of the football players turned his head, smiling in their direction. Sanaâs group of friends squealed with excitement.
Bambam and Y/N exchanged a look of mutual disgust.
âSeriously? What is she doing hanging out with those kinds of people, gawking at some random guy?â Y/N muttered.
Bambam shrugged again. âMaybe sheâs making new friends? Well, we were also watching the cheerleaders.â
Y/N rolled her eyes at him. âThatâs different. Cheerleaders are performing, not just standing there being ogled.â
Bambam sighed. âAlright, alright. So, what do you want to do?â
Y/N glanced back at Sana and her group, then turned to Bambam. âI think we should approach them.â
Bambamâs eyes widened. âApproach them? Are you serious?â
âYes, Iâm serious,â Y/N said, already starting to walk toward Sanaâs group.
Bambam could only stomp his feet in protest when he saw Y/N already approaching the group. He reluctantly followed. âThis better be worth it,â he muttered under his breath.
As Y/N and Bambam approached Sana's group, Sana remained oblivious, her eyes fixed on the football players busy preparing for their practice. Bambam leaned in and whispered to Y/N, "Sanaâs acting weird right now. Disgustingly weird."
Y/N nodded in agreement, her eyes narrowing as she watched Sana.
Sana's friend, Lisa, nudged her repeatedly, trying to get her attention. Sana, still engrossed in watching the football players, grew irritated. "What is it?" she snapped, finally turning to Lisa. She stopped mid-sentence when she saw Y/N and Bambam standing there, giving her a strange look.
"Y/N! Bambam! I, uh, didn't see you there," Sana stammered, her cheeks turning a light shade of pink.
Y/N shook her head, a mix of disappointment and amusement in her expression. "Hey, Sana. Enjoying the view?" she asked, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
Sana's blush deepened, and she fumbled for words. "I was just, um, watching the practice."
Bambam couldn't resist a smirk. "Yeah, we could see that. Real engrossing stuff."
Lisa, sensing the awkwardness, tried to break the tension. "Sana was just admiring their technique."
Y/N rolled her eyes and turned to Bambam. "Come on, let's go. Weâve got better things to do."
Bambam nodded, ready to leave the awkward scene behind. As they started to walk away, Sana stood up and hurried after them. "Wait! Y/N, Bambam, hold on!"
They paused and turned to face her. Y/N raised an eyebrow. "What is it, Sana?"
Sana caught up to them, looking a bit flustered. "I just wanted to explain... I wasn't ignoring you guys. I was just... distracted."
Bambam chuckled. "Yeah, we noticed."
Sana bit her lip, looking genuinely apologetic. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to act weird. It's just that... well, this guy, Wonwoo, he's really nice andâ"
Y/N held up a hand to stop her. "You don't need to explain. If you want to watch him, go ahead. Weâll catch up with you later."
Sana's shoulders slumped slightly. "No, really, I want to spend time with you guys. I've just been... caught up with new people and all."
Y/N softened a bit, her expression turning from annoyance to understanding.
Bambam glanced at Sana, his expression softening. "Alright, just... don't forget your old friends, okay?"
Sana smiled, relieved. "I won't. Promise."
Bambam clapped his hands together. "Great, now let's go grab something to eat. I'm starving."
Y/N and Sana laughed, and the three of them walked away together, heading toward the cafeteria. As they walked, Sana felt a sense of relief wash over her.
But deep down, Y/N couldn't shake the nagging worry that Sana might drift away from them, caught up with her new friends and new interests. She pushed the thoughts aside, deciding to focus on the present and trust in their friendship.
