Possessive Love

On the next morning, Alfie went to school as usual. But this time was a bit different than before. I was following Alfie on his way to school. Before I was not allowed to go to school so as to prevent others seeing Alfie talking to me. But unexpectedly, Alfie agreed to allow me to follow him to school today. I felt surprised. At first, I didn't think it was a good idea for me to go to school with him. I could still remember the first time I went to school. It was a disaster. I suggested I should just stay at home. However, Alfie insisted me to come along.

Walking, we were close to the school gate. Many students were chattering along the road, talking about all sorts of conversation topics. Near the school entrance, there was a young boy standing, he turned his head left and right as if he was searching for something. He seemed a bit anxious. After a minute, our eyes matched with him, he felt relieved and ran towards us, waving his hand.

"Alfie!" He cried. I recognized the boy, he was Alfie's classmate----James. While looking at James, Alfie's face went pale with legs shivering, I noticed fear in Alfie's eyes, it seemed that Alfie couldn't forget what James did to him before. James came closer and stopped to catch his breath.

"James?! I......I'm sor---" said Alfie, he wanted to apologized but James interrupted him.

"Alfie, I'm sorry." To his surprise, James bowed his head and apologized to him instead.

"Huh? Why are you apologizing?" Feeling strange, Alfie asked.

"Today, Paul apologized to me. He admitted he lied to me and apologized for stealing my pen and spreading out your bad rumors. When I knew the truth, I gave him a heavy punch."

"Alfie, I'm sorry that I hurt you. This is all because I'm not careful enough. To be honest, the fountain pen actually belongs to my parents but I bring it to school without asking their permission. At that time, when I realized my pen was lost, I was scared that my parents will scold me heavily so I didn't care much about your feelings. If I stay calmer and trust your words and do more research, you won't be hurt. I'm really sorry, Alfie."

"It's ok. It's already over. You don't have to apologize anymore."

"You're really generous, aren't you?"

"Alfie, even you forgive me, I still can't forgive myself. So......."

"I decide to recompense you by being your bodyguard!"

"What? Bodyguard?!!"

"Yes. You are being bullied by other classmates, right? I'll scare off those guys and protect you from danger!!"

"Err....I appreciate your effort but you really don't have to do that for me."

"No! I must do it. If I don't, I will never be able to recompense you for what I have done. Alfie, you don't have to care about me. If you think I'm bothering you, I will be your secret bodyguard!"

"No....no....no. It is really fine, James. You don't have to be my bodyguard."

"Come on, Alfie! You don't have to feel embarrassed. Feel free to ask me if you need help."

"Err.....ok? By the way, why did Paul apologize so suddenly?"

"Well, I don't know too. I wondered the same thing and asked him. He said that a ghost threatened him to apologize. It's funny, isn't it? How can a ghost exist in this world. I bet he is just scared that I find out the truth." said James.

"Yeah, perhaps...." said Alfie. Alfie glared at me for one second after he heard what James said. He smiled and giggled secretly, I turned my head and pretended I didn't hear anything. James said goodbye to Alfie and left. Without warning, someone from the back grabbed Alfie's shoulders and shocked him.

"Alfie! Good morning." said Kevin with a bright smile. If I remember correctly, he is the friend who Alfie talked about before.

"How are you? Sorry, I haven't spent much time with you these days, I was busy with all my karate training. Let's have lunch together today." He suggested. Alfie nodded his head and disagreed.

"Err...sorry, I can't. Someone invited me already." Kevin was startled by Alfie, I noticed his eyes darken a bit. I wondered if I mistake it.

"Is it? That's a shame. It's fine. Anyway, I'm excited by our shopping tour today. Aren't you?" stated Kevin with a smile. Opposite to him, Alfie felt confused.

"What shopping tour?" Alfie asked.

"Huh? To the shopping street, of course! Don't you remember? We promised that we will go to the shopping street together today." Kevin explained. Alfie tried to scramble himself to his memories but Kevin's words felt unfamiliar to him.

"......I don't remember saying anything like that." Hearing Alfie, Kevin felt shocked.

"Huh?! You forgot? Didn't you say that you are very excited about going to street together?"

"Sorry, I think I forgot. Maybe we go there next time? I have things to do today....." said Alfie. I ignored both of them and looked at the clock hanging on top of the school entrance. Looking at the school building, I was thrilled. School was an unknown place to me, I never got a chance to observe it precisely. As curiosity filled my mind, I interrupted Alfie.

"Alfie, you are going to show me the school, right? There is still time before your class starts. I want to check out the rooftop you mentioned before." Alfie stopped talking to Kevin and turned his head to me.

"Sure, no problem." He answered out loud. Alfie's strange behavior caught Kevin's eyes, he stared at Alfie. Kevin was seriously freaked out, his mouth popped out wild when he saw Alfie was talking to the air.

"Alfie, who are you talking to.........? There is no one there...." Kevin asked, I heard him doubting himself whether he had misheard something wrong. Alfie didn't seem to notice Kevin's strange face, he called out my name in front of Kevin for the first time.

"Let's go, Jay." Hearing an unfamiliar name, Kevin stopped walking.

"Jay? Who's Jay?" He asked Alfie. Still, Alfie kept on walking. He focused on talking to me and was unable to hear what Kevin said clearly.

While listening to Alfie, I slightly turned my head without Alfie noticing and took a quick look at Kevin.

From a few meters away, Kevin was standing there.

He kept a short distance from us.

He seemed didn't quite really understand what was actually going on, there was too much information coming up to his tiny little brain.

He tried to reach out his hand to grab Alfie, but as if something was blocking him, he couldn't take a single step.

With hands shivering, he tried to open his mouth to speak but there wasn't any sound coming out.

As I watched him standing there and doing nothing.

I smiled.
