Chapter 33 - That was bullshit.
Mr. Rong's Lovelorn Diary
Translator: DragonRider
âAre you feeling better? Still feeling unwell?â Chen Keyao looked back at him as he walked into the kitchen with the yogurt.
âNot too bad. Should be OK now,â Rong Yi frowned at the bag in his hand. âWhy did you buy so much yogurt?â
âI saw they were having a special sale, so I bought more than usual.â Chen Keyao looked quite smug.
Hearing this, Rong Yiâs heart sank immediately. He stepped forward quickly, took out one pack of yogurt from the bag and began to look for the best before date.
Sure enough, the best before date was tomorrow.
He shoved the pack with the best before date side up under Chen Keyaoâs eyes: âWould you be able to drink all these in time?â
Chen Keyao was shocked: âOh?â
Then he immediately opened the pack, took out a yogurt and put it in Rong Yiâs hand. âQuick, drink it!â
â...â
Just as Rong Yi was trying to find words to say, Chen Keyao opened another yogurt and walked towards the kitchen, shouting, âSister Lan, youâve been working too hard. Come for a yogurt first.â
Baby son was suddenly so caring. Sister Lan was very pleased and accepted the expiring yoghurt happily.
Rong Yi sighed, and just as he ripped off the lid and took a sip, Chen Keyao poked his head out of the kitchen again: âIs one enough? Would you like some more?â
This guy bought three packs, eight cartons in each pack. It was most certainly impossible to drink them all before their best by dates. Rong Yi was rather puzzled about how Chen Keyao had survived when he lived by himself.
Although he would really like to complain bitterly about it, seeing Chen Keyaoâs pleading eyes and his raised hand with the yogurt, Rong Yi didnât have the heart to turn him down.
The consequence was that he could hardly eat anything at dinner.
Sister Lanâs cooking was not top-notch, but she still managed to make several nice-lloking home-cooked dishes. However, Rong Yi was fed a bellyful of yogurt by Chen Keyao, so only after a few mouthfuls, he was burping and belching, all of which smelled like yogurt.
âXiao Rong, you donât seem to have any appetite. Are you still sick?â Sister Lanâs face looked worried, âYou need to eat more when youâre unwell, so that youâll get enough nutrition and will soon be better. Yao Yao, what are you sitting there for? Why donât you get more food into his bowl.â
Chen Keyao hesitated for a moment. Under Rong Yiâs sharp watch, he carefully picked up a cowpea and put it on the rice in his bowl.
âEat some more, eat some more?â He said.
Sister Lan was anxious: âYou silly boy. Is this how you help people with food?â
She then demonstrated in person by picking up a big rib and pressed it on the pitiful cowpea in Rong Yiâs bowl.
âHonestly, heâs such a fool,â sister Lan said indignantly, âXiao Rong, how did you fall for him in the past?â
Rong Yi looked down at the shining rib and felt the yogurt bubbling in his stomach. How did he fall for Chen Keyao at that time? Of course it was Chen Keyaoâs good looks that had tricked him in. This aunt should conduct a self-criticism for having created such a good-looking âsilly boyâ.
Fortunately, he was proficient in the business of pretending to be a boyfriend, and was able to put on a boast for anyone even if he was super stupid/silly.
âHe... is a nice person, âRong Yi smiled.â He is honest, reliable, and good to me. â
âahem.â Honest man Chen Keyao made a strange noise.
âThatâs true,â on the whole Sister Lan was still full of love for her son. âAlthough Yao Yao looks a bit unapproachable, heâs actually really good-natured. Well, itâs just that how he managed to turned his face into something like that? II havenât seen him for a while, so I was shocked when I first saw it today.â
âItâs not too bad now,â said Rong Yi. âItâs a lot better than before. It should become totally invisible in a few months.â
Sister Lan frowned and stared at that side of Chen Keyaoâs face for a while, immersed in her own thinking. This was making Chen Keyao feel very uncomfortable.
âPlease eat your dinner. What are you looking at me for?â
âYou two seem to have been together for a long time,â said Sister Lan suddenly. âHave you ever thought about when to get married?â
Rong Yi was just making effort to bite into the big rib, but now hearing these words, he was instantly choked.
This was too much, beyond the scope of his âfake-partnerâ business.
He hurried to look at Chen Keyao, and that guy obviously was dumbfounded too. Fortunately, he soon calmed down and said pretentiously, âThis... The main reason is that Rong Yiâs career is still at the rising stage, so the timing is not good right now.â
Sister Lan seemed unsatisfied with the answer. She wanted to say something, but in the end only sighed, âCome on, you young people all have your own ideas.â
Both young men breathed a silent sigh of relief.
Sister Lan then said, âI came back this time because your brother is going to get married.â
Chen Keyao had a brother? As Rong Yi was looking surprised, Sister Lan explained to him, âItâs my husbandâs child after I remarried, two years younger than Yao Yao.â
Rong Yi nodded.
No wonder Chen Keyao also seemed to have only just heard the news. This effortlessly-obtained brother didnât seem to be very close to him.
âMy husband said heâd like you to attend the wedding too,â said Sister Lan, âjust this weekend. You should have time?
âYes,â Chen Keyao promised, âIâll go with you.â
âSo...â Sister Lan turned her attention to Rong Yi. âXiao Rong, will you come with us?â
Rong Yi slumped on the sofa chair in Chen Keyaoâs room, his big belly hanging out and feeling painful.
The ribs, the cowpeas and the yogurt all fermented into a strange taste in his stomach, which made him want to throw up whenever he belched.
Chen Keyao sat beside him and laughed, âIf you donât want to go, you can say youâre busy. It doesnât matter.â
Rong Yi glanced at him.
Now you are giving me some smart belated advice. Iâve brazened it out just now and made a promise.
Seeing that he was silent, Chen Keyao said again, âYour great kindness canât be repaid by any means...â
Except by surrendering yourself to me. Rong Yi automatically finished the sentence off in his heart, and then immediately displayed a look of disgust.
You keep vomiting at me; youâd be useless even if you surrendered yourself to me. I donât want you at all, as youâre just so annoying.
He looked at Chen Keyao: âIf you really want to repay me, just promise me a few things.â
âGo ahead?â
âThat person today, the one who is especially easily shocked and screamy. Is that your editor?â Rong Yi asked.
Chen Keyao was surprised.
âI guessed it right, didnât I?â Rong Yi was excited.
The young man kept calling Chen Keyao âteacher, teacherâ, but did not look like a childâs parent. There were also distinct keywords in their aimless conversations. Considering that Chen Keyao claimed earlier that his job was all brain-based, it was most likely a writing job.
And, it was probably quite successful as well. Otherwise, how could he have made his editor so desperate and yet he could live such a good life without worrying about money.
Chen Keyaoâs expression now corroborated his speculation.
This guy... looked rather embarrassed.
âSo you really are a writer?â Rong Yi stared at him.
âUh...âChen Keyao was a bit shy, âI just write something at random. Canât be called a âwriterâ yet.â
Although Rong Yi didnât like the way he looked at the moment, he had no intention to ridicule him. After all, Chen Keyaoâs image in his heart all this time was one with brawn but little brains. Now that he suddenly found out his hidden identity, Rong Yi started to look at him with an admiration.
And he was looking even a bit more charming because of his current bashfulness.
âI want to read what you write!â Rong Yi was thrilled, âWhatâs your name?â
Mr. Chen hesitated:â...My name is Chen Keyao.â
That was bullshit.
âYour pen name is your real name?â Rong Yi asked.
âNot really...â
Seeing Chen Keyao being so secretive, Rong Yiâs suspicions were even more inevitable.
âIf itâs so embarrassing to reveal, could it be that youâre writing porn...â
âHow could that be?â Chen Keyao immediately denied, âThey are all formally published, OK?â
âThen why wouldnât you let me know?â
âWhy do you have to know,â he said. âHasnât it been all fine all this time when .you didnât know?â
Extremely suspicious.
But he was determined not to tell, so there was nothing Rong Yi could do about it.
âYouâre probably pretty famous,â Rong Yi thought for a moment. âI heard your editor saying the third book was a year and a half ago...â
âLook, youâre still quite ill. Donât try to overuse your brain,â Chen Keyao rubbed his hands together, âWhy donât you have some yogurt instead and get some sleep?â
âDonât mention the word yogurt to me ever again, âRong Yi was frowning, âIâm sick of hearing it now.â
Chen thinks:â...Well, get some hot water then.â
âForget it,â Rong Yi waved his hand. âIâm going online tomorrow to find out.â
â...âChen Keyao looked rather miserable. He suddenly said, âDidnât you say a few things, then tell me the rest of them?â
Hearing this, Rong Yiâs attitude suddenly turned very gentle.
âThat.â He quickly pointed to those covered derivative products on the table. âWhen I move back to my room, I want to display that calendar.â
Chen Keyaoâs face sank immediately and looked at him very seriously: âOnly over my dead body.â
â...â
âDonât even think about it. This is the bottom line I canât back down. Itâs already my greatest mercy not to throw them out.â
Rong Yi turned his head.
âI really canât understand why you like him so much?â Chen Keyao looked at him with a frown.
âI donât understand eitherâ Rong Yi also frowned, âWhy do you hate him so much?â
Chen Keyao, with a blistering look, moved his eyes away and did not utter a word.
Rong Yi suddenly got enlightened: âBig writer, could it be that you personally know him?â
âNo!â Chen Keyao suddenly raised his voice.
Rong was startled. Just when he was about to say something, as if the previous denial was not strong enough, Chen Keyao added: âNo overlapping, no involvement, no nothing with him in my whole life.â
â...â
Rong Yi was even more suspicious.
It was a casual remark that was not very serious, but Chen Keyao was so overreacting, which made Rong Yi start to suspect.
After all, this man was usually very agreeable, and rarely had any temper. So far, he had never taken so unkindly to anything.
â...I got it.â Rong Yi swallowed his saliva, âWas it that you tried to chase after him and he rejected you, so that you became so embarrassed and angry?â
Chen Keyao took a deep breath.
âI was right again!â Rong Yi was excited.
âYouâre the big writer,â Chen Keyao said. âWith more fabrications, you could write a book already.â
