Chapter 57

Sweet Submission: Reclaiming Her Love

Chapter 57 Gratitude Elliot hadn’t slept the entire night, and it showed in the dark circles under his bloodshot eyes He kept vigil by the door of Corynn’s hospital room until her parents came in the morning Erick’s brows knitted into a scowl as soon as he saw the young man. “Why are you here again? You are not welcome here!”

Elliot stood and took a step toward Erick, who was immediately wary.

He pulled Shirley behind him and demanded, “What do you want?”

“A man snuck into Corynn’s room last night and tried to kill her,” Elliot said in a quiet voice. “I arrived just in time to stop him. If you really care about your daughter’s safety, be sure to have someone with her at all times, especially when you leave for the night.”

With that, he motioned to his bodyguards down the hall and made to leave.

“Wait!” Erick called after Elliot in a trembling voice..

Elliot stopped and turned around, wordlessly waiting for the older man to say his piece.

“I need a proper explanation. What did you say happened to Corynn last night?” Although his disdain toward Elliot Andrews knew no bounds, his daughter’s safety took precedence over anything else.

It was no wonder Shirley had been uneasy the whole night. She was anxious and agitated, and kept tossing in bed.

So Corynn had been in danger at the time, and they were utterly oblivious to it.

Erick felt his legs weaken under him.

“Here, take a look at this.” Elliot handed them his phone, which contained the surveillance footage from the previous night.

The video was shot from the hallway camera. In it, Tyree was seen walking out of his ward and entering Corynn’s. Shortly after came the muffled sounds of a struggle.

Shirley’s chest clenched at that part. Her eyes were glued to the closed door on the small screen as tears started to stream down her face.

If she had known that something like this would happen, she would have stayed the night. She had almost lost her only daughter yet again.

The couple continued to watch as Elliot arrived and burst into Corynn’s ward. A couple of minutes later, three men came to drag a bloodied Tyree outside.

Shirley’s eyes were filled with fresh tears as she looked up at Elliot. There weren’t enough words to express how grateful she was to him.

13:23 Chapter 57 Gratitude Erick himself felt a complex mix of emotions as he handed Elliot’s phone back.

He didn’t like Elliot, never had, but he couldn’t deny that the young man had saved his daughter’s life. “Don’t think that this absolves you of your past mistakes,” he grumbled awkwardly, turning away to avoid meeting Elliot’s eves.

Elliot just nodded and addressed his next words to Shirley. “I am aware that you don’t want to see me. That’s why I only come at night. Thanks to that, I was able to come when Corynn needed help the most.”

Erick snorted, but his attitude softened somewhat. “What about her attacker, then? Do you know who he is?”

“The man in the video is also a patient here,” Elliot answered honestly. “Unfortunately, he has the intelligence of a six–year–old, so we couldn’t get anything useful out of him.”

Erick shook his fist in anger. “Someone must have put him up to it!”

Why would someone with an underdeveloped brain want to kill a person? How would they even know how to go about it?

Shirley swayed slightly on her feet, her face devoid of color. Erick quickly grabbed her elbows to support her. “My men are conducting an investigation as we speak,” Elliot said. “We’re trying to look into his family and see if they had been in contact with anyone suspicious. I’ll let you know once we find something worth noting.”

Erick sighed and ran a hand over his face.

His daughter had gone through so much suffering in just a matter of days. Perhaps it was time for them to visit the church and pray for Corynn’s health and safety.

Elliot exchanged parting pleasantries with the couple and waited for them to enter the ward before leaving He was walking across the reception hall on the first floor when he saw Jason enter the building with a lunch box in hand.

Elliot’s lips curled into a mocking smile, while Jason glared at him.

“Do you even know that Corynn almost died last night?” Elliot taunted. “Is that what you meant when you said you would protect her well, Mr. Reid?”
