Chapter 40 She Truly Lacks Nothing Seeing the sincerity in the man’s eyes, Corynn reached out and accepted the business card from the man in black, glancing down to silently read the name on it, printed in gold letters.

Sage Brook.

“Thanks for your card,” she said politely.

Sage smiled and, upon taking a closer look at Corynn’s face, suddenly felt a strange sense of familiarity. “How old are you?” he asked curiously.

“Twenty–seven,” Corynn answered.

A sad expression crossed Sage’s face as he turned to gaze out the window.

Puzzled, Corynn couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Brook, is something wrong?”

“You remind me of my daughter,” he murmured wistfully. “She would’ve been around your age now.”

Corynn understood immediately that Sage’s daughter must have passed away.

Snapping out of his reverie, Sage turned to look back at her and added, “Mr. Brook‘ makes me sound so old. Just call me Sage.”

“If you say so, Sage,” Corynn said with a grin.

The two chatted for a little while longer before Corynn excused herself and returned to Sofia’s ward.

The moment she left, Sage murmured, “Mario, don’t you think she looks a bit like Kiley?”

Mario, the man dressed in all black, shook his head.

Years ago, he had personally carried Sage’s daughter’s charred body out of that fire. He had even confirmed her identity through a DNA test.

Over the years, Sage had often seen his deceased daughter in young women who looked vaguely similar to her. However, Mario knew full well that it was just a sad echo of the past.

“Now, Kiley ignores me.” Sage sighed heavily.

Ever since their daughter’s tragic death twenty–five years ago, Sage’s wife, Kiley, had refused to speak to him.

If he hadn’t left so suddenly, leaving their daughter at home alone, she wouldn’t have died so tragically.

Even after all these years, Sage still blamed himself for everything that happened.

After heaving another heavy sigh, Sage said nothing more.

It was only after Mario inquired with the doctor that they learned her name.

The name sounded familiar, but Sage couldn’t quite put his finger on it.

Sage googled Corynn’s na that Corynn was a rising star in the business world, frequently appearing in headlines on his phone, and dozens of her photos immediately popped up on his screen.

“No wonder she didn’t want to ask for anything,” he murmured, realizing Corynn wasn’t lying when she said that she lacked nothing.

Ready to leave the hospital, Sage waited until ten in the morning, hoping to see Corynn one last time, but she never showed up.

“Mr. Brook, the plane’s about to take off,” Mario reminded him.

“Okay, fine,” Sage said with a resigned sigh. “Let’s go.”

Corynn made no attempt to rush headfirst into dealing with that scumbag, Chase. Instead, she focused on taking care of Sofia in the hospital, ensuring her injuries were thoroughly checked and treated. Once Sofia’s condition improved, Corynn used Sofia’s phone to message Chase, hoping to arrange a meeting.

After two days of receiving support and guidance from Corynn, Sofia improved both physically and mentally.

“Corynn, are you sure this is a good idea?” Sofia asked hesitantly. “Won’t we get into trouble?”

It wasn’t that she felt sorry for Chase; she was just worried about dragging Corynn into this mess and implicating her.

Given Corynn’s rising fame, it wasn’t worth tarnishing her reputation over a piece of garbage like Chase.

Corynn gave her a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry. No one here’s getting in trouble except Chase. Since he had the audacity to lay a finger on you, he should be willing to face the consequences. I’ve set aside money specifically to deal with him!”

From the moment she saw Sofia’s injuries, Corynn had no intention of letting Chase off the hook easily. Hitting Chase was only the first step in venting Sofia’s anger. Ultimately, Corynn aimed to put the asshole behind bars, preventing him from harming any other women.
