Chapter 10: The Battle of Arsha
Euthanasia: Spare Me Your Mercy volume 2
Wasan sat up and looked at the man she loves sleeping on the bed in the VIP room. Because the doctor was unconscious due to the head injury and suffers from memory loss about what happened. Although the CT x-ray came back normal, the emergency room doctor ordered Gunn to stay in the hospital overnight to monitor his neurological symptoms.
"Wasan, you should go home," Gunn extended his hand to touch Wasan's. "You're not okay either."
"No, I'm fine. All the test results are normal. The emergency doctor allowed me to go home." The policeman frowned and looked at Gunn: "Do you have something to explain to me?"
Gunn smiled slightly, "I still can't remember much right now. My last memory was that I intended to look at cars during my lunch break in case there were any interesting ones."
"We already have two cars at home and we don't have space to park. Where would you park the third car?"
"I just went to look. That doesn't mean I'll buy it." The doctor moved his hand and grabbed Wasan's, "It's like when you like to go through the electronics area to see if there's anything new or if there's something on sale, but with no intention of buying."
"Don't answer me," Wasan grimaced. "I'll stop by the house to get my things and I'll come back to see you. Just stay here for a while. If there's anything, just press the button and call a nurse."
"I'm a doctor. I know my symptoms. Don't worry," Gunn smiled sweetly at Wasan.
"Doctors are the most stubborn." Wasan gently snapped his finger on Kan's forehead lovingly and stood up, "I'll be back soon."
The police officer left the room, nodded to the nurse at the desk, and left the VIP patient room. He walked down the hallway to the elevator. He heard the sound of the stretcher rolling from behind, so he moved to the left side to make way. The police officer held up his phone to watch the stretcher being taken away before noticing a piece of paper fall from the tall man pushing the stretcher.
Wasan quickly bent down to pick it up and shouted, "You! You dropped a piece of paper."
The man ignored him and continued pushing the empty stretcher, turning towards a door that connected the buildings. Wasan ran to follow him, but only found the empty stretcher abandoned in the middle of the hallway in the dim light of twilight. Wasan frowned. He was sure that the person he had just seen was not a ghost. Wasan looked at the sheet of paper folded in half in his hand and slowly opened it to see what kind of document it was, in case he could return it to the correct owner.
The message he saw was written in black marker in huge font. It said: "The lover of the angel of death dressed in white."
Wasan's eyes widened. It seemed like all the surrounding noise had been reduced. The atmosphere was so heavy that it was suffocating. The policeman ran and stopped next to the empty stretcher. He looked left and right in panic.
These words should have disappeared more than six months ago. How did they come back now?
Or was that man Mr. Som? Because he was the only person who used this nickname to call Gunn.
No, because the body of the man who dropped the piece of paper was nowhere near Som.
Wasan crumpled the paper in his hand into a ball. He took a deep breath before exhaling slowly. The euthanasia case was over. Dr. Somsak was the murderer and Gunn, his lover, was cleared of all charges.
However, an image from his memory appeared in his mind. It was a picture of a piece of paper containing the victims of Dr. Somsak's euthanasia. Ms. Raweewan, Wasan's mother, was not on the list.
Wasan dropped the crumpled paper on the floor and stomped on it before walking away. It was as if he had identified the chosen path. There was no point in thinking about things that were already over. He chose to live and move on.
After Wasan came down from the building, the man in the stretcher uniform came out of the dark corner of the building. His uniform, which should have been white and clean, looked old and worn. He reached up to adjust his glasses with the right lens broken. He bent down to pick up the paper, which Wasan crumpled and trampled, and put in his shirt pocket. Then he grabbed the stretcher and pushed it down the hallway toward another building in the gloom of the night.
"Tum, isn't that your boyfriend?" Nurse Joy turned to touch Tum, who was mixing disinfectant for a patient. "You are a beauty, men always come to see you."
"That?" Tum stepped away from the mix and tried to look. He saw Kong standing at the end of bed number 9. "It's true. He didn't tell me he was coming."
"Normally he comes to bring you food, but today was a little strange. He came as if he was visiting a relative in bed number 9. He stood there watching for several minutes. Visiting time is also over. Can you go and ask?"
The nurse sighed a little. I already knew that Kong has strange behaviors. However, if he is acting too strangely in Tum territory, you should go and warn him yourself."
After he finished mixing the disinfectant, the small-framed nurse quickly walked out of the nursing desk and called, "Kong! What are you doing here?"
"When will Ying wake up, Tum?" The police officer in the black jacket and his favorite cap turned to ask, pointing to the thin patient sleeping with an oxygen mask covering his face.
"This is not the time for you to visit the patient," Tum gently patted Kong's back. "You can come visit me. Everyone knows who you are. But you can't get in the way while the nurses are working!"
"I want to talk to him."
"Kong!" Tum scolded him harder than usual. "I don't care why you want to talk to the patient. If you want to investigate a case or what he did wrong. But right now he is a patient under my care. I won't let you bother him while he is being treated!" Tum pointed towards the door in front of the patient room. "You can leave now. Come back tomorrow."
Nurse Joy looked at her colleague in amazement. Tum was one of the nicest people Joy knew, so it was quite shocking when she saw Tum scolding her boyfriend like that.
Kong looked a little displeased, "I wasn't free during the lunch break. Letting me talk now won't be a big deal."
"You're using the privilege that you have so much that you're used to it." Tum gave his lover a tired look. "Please go."
Kong remained where he was due to his habit of not giving in easily to anyone, while Tum, who was normally the side that gave in, decided to counterattack today. The atmosphere between the two men was heating up. It would probably be worse if Mr. Ying, the reason for all this, hadn't groaned as if he wanted to say something at that moment. Tum rushed to assess the patient while Kong walked to stand on the other side of the bed.
"H...Help...", the more he spoke, the harder it was to hear what he said. Tum adjusted the oxygen mask in place as his eyes looked at the monitor, "Don't shoot...help me..."
"Ying," Kong said. "You're like this because someone did something to you, right?"
"I already said...what you wanted to know..."
Tum looked wearily at the conversation that was going on. As much as he wanted to throw Lieutenant Arsha out of the room, what his patient was saying seemed to have some important meanings.
"What did you say? Tell me again." The police officer leaned in to speak closer to Ying's face. "Say what you said again."
"I went to get the drugs from... Van... who was working at the Chartchai car shop..."
Kong looked as if he was temporarily cursed. The Thousand Eyed Detective received information from investigating many places, but he never obtained any information that would give him goosebumps from head to toe like this. The policeman looked at the man he loves with an expression the nurse had never seen before.
"And who did this to you?" Kong asked another question, but only silence was his answer because Ying went back to sleep. The policeman was about to reach out his hand to shake Ying, but Tum quickly pushed Kong's hand away. He seemed unhappy.
"That's too much Kong. Enough. Wouldn't it be better to talk when the patient is more awake?"
Kong moved away from the bed. The police officer didn't seem angry that Tum told him to leave. He seemed more surprised and confused. Kong clenched his hands and released them many times before turning around and quickly leaving the Male Internal Medicine Room. Tum looked at Kong curiously. He planned to ask her when they met again.
Kong knew that confrontation at this time was not wise. If this were during a normal period, Kong would use this time to delve deeper into searching locations for evidence and using the connections he has. However, this was not normal for Kong because it involved people close to him, especially Inspector Wasan, who was someone Kong respected with all his heart.
Dr. Guntapat Akaramethi never made Kong feel comfortable.
Kong opened the door of the VIP patient room and found the young doctor sitting in the chair next to the bed. One of her hands was hooked up to an intravenous drip and there were bruises on her beautiful face. There was also a Band-Aid covering a wound on the back of his head. Guntapat looked a little surprised at the visitor, "Hello, Lieutenant Kong."
The policeman looked left and right: "Isn't the inspector here?"
"He came back to get his things. He'll come back here to take care of me." Gunn got up, swayed slightly and sat on the bed. He smiled gently at Kong, "You're sure not here just to visit me, judging by your face."
Kong laughed to himself. He closed the door, crossed his arms and leaned against the wall. "You're getting scarier every day. You know that?"
Gunn shook his head: "No, I don't know."
"Dr. Gunn, let me ask you as an acquaintance. If you weren't my Inspector's boyfriend, I wouldn't ask you this question." Kong took off his cap and stared at Kan. "Are you doing something that will make the Inspector very sad?"
The doctor looked up and stared back at the terrifying pair of eyes without giving up: "I don't know what you are talking about, Lieutenant Kong."
"Do you have secrets that you are hiding from the Inspector or anyone?" Gunn's expression did not change in the slightest, not even a slight shock, "No, I don't have any."
"Hey, Nong, what are you doing in my pavilion?" Nurse Joy entered the area dedicated to preparing medications. He was surprised to see Ornanong washing his hands there. The senior nurse turned to smile at Joy with a warm, gentle smile.
"It's late. I thought you already got off work."
"Professor Gunn had to be admitted to the hospital so suddenly. I was worried about the uncle who was in bed number 15 and my house is right here, I just had to walk a little. It's no problem. I can also check to the patient on behalf of Dr. Gunn." Ornanong grabbed a towel to wipe his hands.
"Next time, the handsome Dr. Gunn can call and order it directly from my ward himself. I studied a lot with Professor Gunn, so I can help take care of his palliative patient," the young nurse said happily. "Anyway, what is the professor sick with?"
"It was an accident, but it's not too serious. He'll probably only stay one night to observe his symptoms." Ornanong walked past Joy to the area outside the nurse's desk. "I'm leaving first. If Professor Gunn orders something, I'll call you."
"Of course, Nong." Joy raised her hands in a gesture of greeting to the head nurse before turning to push the medicine cart she prepared for her patient. Joy took the injectable medicine she prepared for the patient in bed number 9 and found that it was really the medicine to cure the nausea of the patient named Mr. Ying Thongpoon. When she was sure, she injected the medicine into Ying's veins while Ying slept soundly.
"Doctor, tell me I won't find any information I shouldn't have found," the police officer continued to ask.
Gunn's gaze was as still as water in a deep well. He said, "You won't find anything you shouldn't have found."
"Joy, bring me the suction tube", Tum asked Joy to hand him the things because he was busy tying the patient's arms on bed number 11 because he struggled until he almost fell off the bed.
"Yes, just a second." Joy, who had just finished administering the medicine to the last patient, responded and walked towards the cart.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
The warning from the monitor on bed number 9 sounded, causing both Tum and Joy to look up to see. The eyes of the patient in bed number 9 were blank and his body stiffened. The oxygen rate was gradually reduced.
"Joy! Check his pulse!"
Joy ran to check the pulse in the crook of his neck.
"Unable to monitor pulse. Patient is entering PEA arrest. [Pulseless electrical activity] Thum, call and notify intern!"
"How did this happen?" The young nurse said with a surprised expression because the patient just woke up and talked to him and Lieutenant Kong not long ago. Other nurses and assistants quickly ran to bed number 9. Nurse Joy climbed onto the bed and massaged the patient's heart. Tum quickly composed himself and ran to the phone in the ward to call a doctor as soon as possible.
Lieutenant Kong stared at Gunn's face, which was as beautiful as a sculpture, trying to detect any suspicious behavior on the other person's part, but saw nothing. What he saw was calm, which in Kong's opinion is more terrifying than any criminal he has ever met. "Why did you go to the auto shop, doctor?"
"I went to look at cars," gunn replied. "After that I couldn't remember anything."
"I have CCTV footage." T experienced detective put both hands in his pockets. His eagle eyes did not leave Gunn even for a second.
"Brilliant." Guntapat's response made Kong raise an eyebrow. "Please take a look and see what happened."
"You ran after a man outside the store."
"Is that so?" The doctor looked like he was trying to think. "I can't think of who I chased. Was that the person who attacked me? Can you find that person for me, Lieutenant Kong?"
"Doctor, why did you go to the auto shop?" Kong asked the same question as if he were playing the old record. What Kong was trying to do was annoy the other person so much that he would get careless and say something.
"I went to look at cars." Of course, it failed. The doctor repeated his previous answer with the same expression and tone. He even smiled gently at Kong. "If I think of anything else, I'll call you right away. I'm starting to get a headache right now and I need to rest."
This should be a polite invitation to leave the room. Kong stayed where he was for a while to think. He is yet to come to a conclusion whether , Gunn had something terrifying to hide or not. He even prayed the whole time that there was nothing because if what was hidden came to light and it was the truth, it would hurt everyone he knew. He would destroy the name of the medical community, the police community, and the seriously injured person would be none other than Wasan, the person who loved gunn with all his heart. Kong took and put his cap back on. Although this decision was difficult to make, it must be made.
As soon as Lieutenant Kong left the room, Lieutenant Arsha entered Detective mode with the Thousand Eyes. He would do anything, by any means, he would overcome any obstacle to obtain evidence that could explain the anomalies that happened. And no one can stand in the way of your determination.
"Time of death, 8:18 p.m.", the doctor wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand after trying to save the life of the patient in bed number 9 for more than 40 minutes. He looked at the lifeless body of the thin man. The expression on the doctor's face was full of curiosity. He didn't understand what happened. Tum took out the ambu bag from the fan. He also seemed equally skeptical.
