Chapter 21
Infidelity: His Regret, My Revenge – A Twisted Love Story You Can't Ignore
Chapter 21 I left my parentsâ house at 6 AM. At this hour, my father usually went for a morning walk, and my mother prepared breakfast, but they were still asleep; theyâd stayed up late. I left a note on the refrigerator.
After disguising myself, I took a taxi to Sherryâs. She opened the door, dark circles under her eyes.
âIs Julian Shaw even human?! Heâs a beast! No, calling him a beast is too kind! And Rita and her motherâtheyâre than animals!â
Since receiving my call at dawn, learning about last night, sheâd been furious, wanting to tear them apart.
While she raged, I remained unusually calm. Entering, I said, âIs there anything in the fridge? Iâll make breakfast.â
She was stunned....You have the appetite for breakfast?â
I took off my coat, pushing her onto the sofa. âWhy waste time being hungry for those animals? We need to eat, to get the energy to deal with them.â I was about to remove my hand.
âWait...â She held my wrist, staring at the deep, bloody marks, her face pale with horror.âThey tied your hands during all that?
They didnât give you a single chance to escape.â
âYes,â I smiled. They didnât give me a single chance.â
âRita is vicious, but Julian...â She took a breath, choking up. âEven if he doesnât love you anymore, they could have just separated. Why go to such extremes? Eight years, eight years! For a new lover heâs known for less than six months, he could be so cruel. I... I just donât understand.â
âHeâll do anything to please his new lover.â
âBut he was searching everywhere for you, acting like he cared!â
Cared? Hah...
âDo you know heâs announcing his engagement to Rita tonight?â
âWhat?!â She spun around, shocked.âTheyâre not even divorced yet! Wait...â A terrible thought crossed her mind.âDid he know you tricked him into signing the divorce papers?â
I pursed my lips.âI considered that possibility.â
She continued, âDid he set this up from the start? His mother kept you calm while he deliberately provoked you to finalize the divorce. Once the divorce and compensation agreements were signed, heâd be free, without paying anything.â
âIf you refused, heâd use the video to blackmail you; to avoid it going public, you had to endure it. Then he and Rita could live happily ever after.â
âThat man is terrifying...â I fell silent, lost in thought. Was it true? Recalling Julianâs actions and Ritaâs words, some things didnât quite add up.âSherry, I need your help.â
Her mind was consumed with righteous fury.âJust tell me; Iâll do anything!â
7 pm, the Peninsula Hotel ballroom. Magnificent crystal chandeliers, soothing classical music, elegantly dressed guests mingled.
Tonightâs charity gala was Seraphineâs brainchild. Half of Chicagoâs elite were present, especially the Crowes, who were in full force. Anyone could see something big was about to happen.
Rita, clinging to Julianâs arm, glanced at her phone. What was going on? They werenât answering calls, sending no videosâwhat was happening? Had they failed? No way; theyâd gone that far; and if theyâd failed, she would have heard from them. Unless...
theyâd killed her and were hiding? She scoffed. Boring. A dead woman was less fun; giving her AIDS, making her suffer, was more interesting.
-16 00 < Chapter 21 Weng Seraphine approached.âRita, darling, let me introduce you to a few people.â She pulled Rita aside, whispering âDid it work? Did she sign the agreement?â
Rita replied, âOf course. Iâll bring it to you tomorrow.â
âWonderful, Rita. Youâre amazing.â
âNothing special; just a little trick. Itâs my pleasure to help.*
âSuch a good girl. Youâll be calling me âMomâ soon.â
âMom!â The two women laughed. Rita thought, well, that bitch is dead; the agreement doesnât matter anymore.
Julian finished chatting with friends, stepping onto the balcony for some air. He lit a cigarette, picking up his phone to make a call. âSheâs still at her parentsâ place? Didnât leave the house? Okay, I understand.â Frowning, he hung up, finishing his cigarette before returning to the ballroom.
Julian, darling, help me choose. Mrs. Linâs pink diamonds are beautiful; the design is unique; Mrs. Liuâs ring is nice too...â Rita showed him the auction catalog, chattering incessantly.
âTheyâre all nice.â Julian wasnât interested, glancing at it dismissively. His gaze shifted, then returned. Those pink diamonds looked familiar...
âLet me see the catalog.â
âSure.â Rita happily handed it to him. Julian turned to the pink diamond page. His brow furrowed; there was no mistake; they were the complete pink diamond set heâd customâordered in Italy for our anniversaryâoneâofâaâkind. How did they end up with Mrs. Lin? He thought of the empty drawers in the closet.
âWe have the same taste! I love this set too. Mrs. Lin is too old for them.â Rita chattered, oblivious to his darkening expression.
Julian couldnât confront Mrs. Lin here. He photographed the page, trying to send it to meâbut heâd been blocked. He tried calling... also blocked. His unease grew. âHave fun; I need to leave.â
âWhat?!â Rita froze; seeing him leave, she quickly grabbed his arm. âYou canât leave; tonight is important.â
âWhatâs important?â Julian was puzzled.
Seraphine took the stage.âBefore the auction, I have an announcement,â she said, exchanging glances with Mrs. Crowe. Then, in an excited tone, she continued, âMy son, Julian Shaw, is engaged to Miss Caffrey; tonight, Iâll buy the most expensive piece of jewelry as a gift for my future daughterâinâlaw.â
The ballroom erupted in applause. All eyes were on Julian and Rita; congratulations echoed. The Crowes and Shaws were delighted. Rita was on the verge of tears... only Julian was stunned, his mind reeling. When had he agreed to an engagement with Rita? This was absurd!
At the entrance, a woman in a dark red silk gown, her long hair like flowing silk, her makeup intense and elegant, walked in. Tall and graceful, her trailing gown and dark red ribbons flowed like a bloody mist. Stunningly beautiful; all the other socialites paled in comparison. Beautifully... menacing.
âOlivia Frost!â
