Chapter163, Me: Stop interpreting things!!

I pushed the dumplings to the center of the table.“Sherry, let’s share. I can’t eat two bowls.”

Sherry looked at me with disappointment.

We ate the dumplings, the delicious.flavor sending our souls soaring. A bite of dumpling, a sip of broth, pure bliss. Sherry ate until tears welled up in her eyes.“These are the best dumplings I’ve ever had!”

I remained silent, eating steadily. I ate in small bites, but quickly, making Sherry say I ate like a hamster.

We ate until we were stuffed, ready to lean against the wall. Gary brought out two containers.“Take them home and put them in the fridge. They won’t taste as good frozen, but they’re still better than store–bought ones.”

Sherry and me:...only slightly better?!

We thanked him and quickly packed up the remaining dumplings.

As we were about to leave, Evan suddenly said, “Ms. Burke was about to tell Ms. Frost something. Do you mind if I listen?”

Sherry:“Uh, well...”

Evan:“Is it a secret?”

“Not really,” Sherry hesitated for a few seconds, deciding it would be better if he knew. She said directly, “I went to the hospital today, disguised as a nurse, trying to find evidence of Rita faking her illness and doctor collusion. I overheard the nurses saying... Rita is pregnant.”

I remained silent.

Evan gave a noncommittal “Oh,” as if he understood.

Me:“Then what?”

Sherry:“Then I investigated further. They said the Shaw family has been visiting these past two days, apparently discussing a marriage. Normally, it wouldn’t concern you, but if the two families join forces, might Julian go back on what he said? He’s on the same page as Rita now; he’ll say anything! This is very bad for you!”

“That damn Julian!”

“He made it sound like he regretted everything, that he loved you, and would never marry Rita. I almost believed him! Then, bam, a few days later, he’s getting married!” Sherry was furious, while I was surprisingly calm.“His marriages and funerals don’t concern me.”

Sherry:“But what about Rita? Should we just let her get away with it? If they marry, they’ll surely target you in Chicago, unless...”

She looked at Evan, regardless of whether I’d have a heart attack, “You marry CEO Jones! Together, you’ll drive those two crazy!”
