Chapter 33

The family was waiting patiently for the doctors to come and talk to them.

SANEM: " there taking so long can't someone just come out and give us an update?"

AZIZ: " my dear, they will, we just have to be patient, I'm sure someone will be out soon."

The police, came to the hospital to try to talk to Sanem, but when they saw her condition they decided to wait until tomorrow.

The Doctors came out, to talk to the family.

DOCTOR:  I just want to let you know Can is stable, but is in serious condition, as you know the EMT's resuscitated him on the scene, he's breathing on his own now.  they took him down for an MRI, we want to make sure there is no eternal bleeding, the x-rays show that he has a couple of fractured ribs and his leg is fractured. He did hit his head when he fell, there is some swelling on the brain, but we hope the swelling will go down soon.   We're doing an  MRI to make sure there's no internal bleeding. I will let you know when I get all the results back. Once we're done with all the testing. He will be in ICU for a couple days to keep an eye on him. All I have to say is Can had a guardian angel with him, he's young healthy and strong, and he's a pretty big guy and that definitely helped him . if no other complications arise he will be okay."

Sanem just started crying, she was happy with the news they received, the whole family was. They knew it might take him a while to recover. But just as long as he's okay that's all that matters.

The MRI results came back, no internal bleeding. They moved Can to the ICU, they were all taking turns to see him. Sanem wouldn't leave the hospital.

MEVCABI: Sanem, go home, get some rest, Can will be okay, they won't let you stay in ICU with him long.  Please take care of yourself, he's going to need you when he wakes up."

SANEM: " I can't auntie, I want to be close to him."

LEYLA: " Sanem, let's go home, you can change, take a shower and hopefully try to get some food inside you, and you can come back early in the morning."

AZIZ: " Leyla is right Sanem, visiting hours are over, you won't be able to see him until the morning ."

SANEM: " okay, but I'm coming very early, I have to be close to him."

They all agreed that they will be back early in the morning, they were all still very worried about him.

The next morning, they were all at the hospital, they wanted to see what the doctors had to say. They were only allowing two people in at a time. So Aziz went in with Sanem.

AZIZ: " Sanem, are you okay?"

SANEM: " I'm okay, I guess, his color looks okay doesn't it Aziz bey."

AZIZ: "yes, it does, he definitely looks better"

Aziz decided to give Sanem some time alone with Can.

She took his hand in hers, she would rub her cheek with his hand and kiss it constantly.

SANEM: " Can, my prince, wake up, I miss your beautiful eyes staring at me. I miss having your arms around me. Please my love wake up."

The Nurse came in and heard Sanem talking to Can. She could see the love this girl felt for this young man. She felt bad for her, that she was going through all the pain.

NURSE: " good morning dear, Can's vitals are good. That's a very good sign, he did well throughout the night. No complications at all."

SANEM: " Thank you so much, for taking care of him, he's the love of my life, I can't be without out him " and she starts crying. The nurse goes over and gives her a hug.

NURSE: " I will tell you this, he's a fighter, anyone else might of not the made it, but Can is definitely a fighter. Keep talking to him when you're here. He will hear you." I promise.

SANEM: " oh I will, I'm very chatty and he knows it, but he never complained, he would just listen and smile." The nurse couldn't help but smile at this sweet young girl.

NURSE: " well it seems to me that you two are truly in love, if a man can be patient with us women being chatty all the time and not complain, you know it's true love, ( the nurse giggled) that's the way my husband and I are. He never complains just smiles. So keep talking I'm sure he will love it when he wakes up." They laughed a little and the nurse went to her next patient.

SANEM: " Can, I love you, I'm going to let everyone else come in to see you, I'll be back soon." She kisses him softly and rubs her cheek on his beard, and went back into the waiting room. Everyone took their turn and Sanem was ready to go back in. When Metin came with the police officer.

METIN: " good morning, everyone, how is Can?"

They gave him an update and he was also pleased that Can was stable.

METIN: " Sanem, the police want to talk to you about the accident, it seems it was intentional. This person wanted Can dead."

SANEM: "Metin what are you saying, who, why, I don't understand." Tears are welling up in her eyes.

AZIZ: " Metin, why would someone want to hurt Can, I don't know about him having any enemies."

EMRE: "exactly, this hard to believe, do you know who."

OFFICER: " well it's seems there were pretty many witnesses out during the time of the accident. They saw that a car was parked on the side of the road, they didn't think anything of it until Can was ready to walk out into the street, the car pulled out pressed on the gas and ran into Can, lost control and went into a wall and killed him self."

Sanem was crying, Leyla was hugging her crying also, but who? I don't understand.

METIN: " does Kerem Yilmaz ring a bell? "

Sanem just sat there in shock, she couldn't believe what she was hearing, Kerem tried to kill Can.

"Sanem, it's seems people heard you two arguing at the pier, and they heard Kerem say after you left that you will be his, and people saw him leaving with his car in the direction you were going. It seems that he was following you, but he wanted to make sure Can was with you."

AZIZ: "Sanem, I know what you're thinking, this is not your fault whatsoever, This Kerem was a sick man. He was obsessed with you, he had to be."

EMRE: "I agree Sanem, this is definitely not your fault, and if Can knew that you felt it was your fault he would be very upset."

MIRIBAN: "Sanem dear, we can't help people like Kerem, if wasn't you he was obsessed with it could have been with someone else. Please my sweet child. This is not your fault."

OFFICER; "there right Sanem, no one can predict these things, I've been a police officer for over 20 years, and I've seen a-lot of these type of things, things like this are unpredictable, these people can hide themselves well. Trust me."

SANEM: " so he died, instantly."

OFFICER: "He did Sanem, actually it's better for you, he will never bother you again, if he would've lived, he probably would've gotten some jail time and gotten out in several years and probably would still be obsessed with you people like this, Don't let go. He might've come after you and Can again."

Sanem was crying, Leyla and Miriban took her outside, they wanted her to get some fresh air.

MIRIBAN: "Sanem, what are you thinking? Please don't close your self up."

SANEM: "'I just feel guilty, if it wasn't for me Can wouldn't be laying in a hospital bed."

LEYLA: "Sanem, this is not your fault, you can't help that Kerem had issues, obviously he had physiological issues. When someone is obsessed with someone like that it's not normal."

MIRIBAN: "Leyla is right, he hid himself well, being a professor in a good college, but he was sick Sanem, but smart about it at the same time."

SANEM: "I love Can so much, he's going to hate me, but I truly didn't think he was like that, I knew he liked me, he even told me he thinks he's in love with me. Oh god, poor Can." She starts tearing.

LEYLA: " Sanem, stop, you know Can and so do we all, and I think you know damn well, that's he's going to understand, that he would never blame you for something like this. Am I right?"

Sanem looked at Leyla and Miriban and knew they were right. Can would never blame her for something like that. They sat there for a while, breathing in some fresh air.

SANEM; " okay, you both are right, let's get back inside, I want to spend some time with Can, I miss him."

They went back inside, and waited in the waiting room until it was time for visiting hours. The doctor walks in to give them an update.

DOCTOR: "hello everyone, I just want to let you know Can is doing very well, we do have him in an induced coma, because of the swelling, but that's seems to be doing good too, the swelling is going down. If all is well tomorrow we will move him to a private room. This way you can spend more time with him."

Sanem was so happy, and everyone else was also relieved.

SANEM: "how long will he be in the coma?"

DOCTOR: " hopefully not too long, if the swelling keeps going down, we will take him off the meds, and let him wake up slowly by himself. I can't tell you how long that will be, but seeing the way he is healing I'm hoping not too long."

The doctor left, and everyone was feeling much better today about Can's prognosis."

Sanem went back into Can's room, talking to him telling him stories, about herself in the neighborhood, she talked to him about their dreams together.

SANEM: "Can, my love, remember we are destined to be together forever. You need to wake up soon so we can make many memories together, good night my love, I will see you in the morning." She takes his hand kisses it, and rubs it on her cheeks, gets up and kisses him softly and rubs her cheek on his beard. "I love to rub my cheek in your beard my love, I can't wait for you to wake up, I want to hold you and you me. Sweet dreams."
