Chapter 127
A deal with the devil
Chapter 127 After quickly washing the dishes, Shirley returned to the bedroom and lay down. Not long after, Benjamin emerged from the bathroom. She could hear the sound of the hairdryer a moment later.
should she offer to help him?
What if he rejected her again?
Then again, it was the effort that counted. Since Benjamin had said it was better for her to focus on pleasing him rather than wasting effort on her lack of business talent, it meant he was still willing to give her a chance.
Plus, he hadnât asked her to leave tonight!
Determined, Shirley sat up. She tixed her gaze on Benjaminâs damp, glossy hair and inched closer to him. In a gentle voice, she offered, âWhy not let me help you?â He paused for a moment, then switched off the hairdryer.
Taking this as a sign of approval, Shirley immediately took the dryer from him. Her fin cfingers carefully combed through his dark hair as she began drying it. To fill the silence, she started a conversation. âI noticed youâve been working at Weiss Group for the past two days. When will you return to Blackwood Group?â
He replied curtly, âTomorrow.â
So soon?â
Shirley was s every day?
surprised. âThe company mustâve been thrown into chaos by Wayne and Bennett, Does this mean youâll have to shuttle between the two companies âItâs already been handled,â Benjamin said. âFrom now on, Iâll only go over for important matters.â
Shirley was stunned. âYouâve sorted everything out in just two days?â
âNow do you understand the gap between a talented person and a hardworking tool?â Benjamin said flatly.
Shirley sighed. âYou mean the gap between you and me!â
They were both human, yet how could the difference between them be so vast?
Benjamin sneered âAt least youâre selfâaware,â
Shirley pouted. âBut everyone has their strengths. For example, I may lack business talent, but Iâm good at shooting, racing, surfing, horseback riding, and much more. There are things I can do that you canât.â
she thought she was still quite exceptional, wasnât she? Ablend of beauty and talentâsurely that made her a worthy match for him!
However, Benjamin snorted dismissively. âThat just proves your intelligence and physical abilities donât align,â
He was insulting her intelligence again! Didnât he know that leaming these skills also required a sharp mind?
Unwilling to back down, she retorted, âIâm also proficient in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting!â
Benjamincountered smoothly, âAll useless slalls. They look good, but are impractical.â
âYouâre wrong,â Shirley argued, âMastering these things can also make money.â
Benjamin raised an eyebrow. âHow much?â
This question hit too close to home, Shirleyâs confidence deflated instantly. âNot as much as you, obviously â
âThatâs what I call being idle and aimless,â he concluded bluntly, Shirley, speechless, wondered why he sounded just like her father.
Thankfully, Benjamin didnât press further.
She turned off the hairdryer. âAll done.â
After putting away the dryer, she lay down beside Benjamin, facing his handsome profile. Tentatively, she whispered, âTomorrow is my first day joining the racing team. Would you like to come with me to check it out?â
Benjamin closed las eyes. âIâm busy.â
His rejection was as direct as it was firm.
Shirley felt a twinge of disappointment. âThen Iâll take Damian with me.â
