Chapter 118
A deal with the devil
Chapter 118 Shirley pained for a few seconds to think before she spoke. âBased on the results from the past two years, Iâd conservatively estimate we should be in the top five, assouning nothing unexpected happens.â
âThatâs the spinst,â Janine said nonchalantly. âAs long as we beat Sabrina, weâll restore our honor. Even if something goes wrong and we donât make it to the finish lior, weâll go down in the most glorious way. No one would laugh at us.â
Shirley couldnât help but chuckle. âYouâre even more confident than I am.â
Janine flashed a mischievous grin. âOf course! If you donât believe in me, who else can trust? But when are we getting there? Iâm starving.â
A few usitnites later, the three of them arrived at a barbecue restaurant.
The food anived quickly, and as the tempting aroma waited through the air, Shirley suddenly thought of Benjamin.
He and his father had bad habits when it came to meal times, never eating on schedule. That was something that had to be changed.
After a momentâs thought, Shirley decided to give Benjamin a call.
The phone rang several times before his deep voice finally came through, as cold as ever. âWhat is it?â
Hearing his voice, Shirley tightened her grip on her phone. âHave you eaten yet?â
There was a brief silence before Benjaminâs voice came through again.
Shirley quickly responded, âDamian and Fare out having a meal. The food here is really fresh and tastes great. Would you like me to bring you some?â
Her voice was soft and carried the grace of a woman from a fairy world, sweet and gentle, as though it had been woven from the whispers of the heavens themselves Benjamin paused for a moment, then shifted his gaze from the computer screen. He turned his chair and stood up, then walked over to the floorâtoâceiling window. âDo as you wish,â
Without waiting for her reply, he hung up the phone.
He stared out at the bustling city for a moment before returning to his desk and opened a drawer.
There was a photo album inside. The pictures were from al matew ye y years ago, including one of the Weiss family. Samuel was also in the photo.
Shirley was lovingly holding Sammelâs arm in the picture. Her smile warm and sweet, her eyes as radiant as jewels.
She looked like a woman deeply in love, the very picture of happiness, Owen and his wife also looked affectionate and kind.
It Sophia had never appeared, Shirley and Samuel would have been the happy family they were meant to be Benjaminâs gaze shifted from Samuel to then, then back to Shirley before he picked up his phone again hone, âMr. Blackwoodâ
Soon, Donaldâs voice came through the phone.
Benjamin asked, âWho did Mrs. Blackwood meet today?â.
After a brief pause, Donald answered honestly, âMs. Blackwood went to Grays Residence today to meet the Cole couple. She also ran into Samuel outside their door, where he came to return her phoneâ
Benjaminâs voice grew noticeably colder. âWhat did they talk about?â
Donald replied, âSamuel wants Mrs. Blackwood to be together with him, but she rejected him.â
A cold and emotionless laugh echoed through the phone as soon as Donald finished speaking.
