Chapter 2

grown up with a gift*(2)

MY DESTINED ZULU BRIDE

There is just something about growing up that can be either good or bad one thing is for sure though , your problems increase.

Being eighteen years old , for most people it's a great experience but for me it was not . I kind of felt I kind of inherited some bad luck, otherwise why would my life have been that hard.

Now to the main point , having a gift as a child  is fine but having it as a grown up is nothing but a burden . You don't believe me? Well let me explain my the situation I was under at that time.

A woman stood infront of me cursing at me and calling me a cursed child . The reason ? Well it's quite easy to explain . She asked me about her husband if he'll live for a long time . Being the honest person I was I told her the truth.

I told her ,"your husband will die in a week , there is nothing anyone can do about it " at that time she had just scoffed and walked away  . A week later the man died and the woman cried and cursed at me .

I took it all in good faith , what could I do . That was the beginning of my hard life in the village , in my own motherland. You would think the woman cursing me out is an old woman but no .

It was a beautiful ,young woman with an impressive figure . She was only married to her husband for a year.  Her name was Nosipho Ndlovu , a truly beautiful Zulu woman.

" You killed my husband!" She yelled angrily pointing an angry finger at me . I said nothing . " I can't believe such a witch exists in our village , your nothing but a cursed child ".

Those words left a deep scar in my heart . Everyone just watched as I was humiliated by the woman . My brother was not there or there would have been hell to pay . The man had our father's temper as well but his was more violent and unrestrained.

" Oh , come off it , what nonsense are you spouting about my elder brother?" Asked Lwandle , unhappily. Nosipho , looked at her , " you did not loose a husband so I would advise you to keep quiet" .

Lwandle , was fuming yet she did as told.  I knew deep in her heart she did not want to be implicated in my problems. I looked at Nosipho, " your husband was not killed by me , I do not know what happened to him " .

She scoffed as she kept wailing like a heartbroken woman . Yet I knew she was not , I don't know why , but something in me told me not to trust her tears .

" Fellow villagers , I advise you not to associate with this young man , if you do then you will loose more than you will gain". Her words were powerful and everyone believed her .

As I said since that day I officially became the village outcast . No one spoke to me , yet I could hear them gossiping about me behind my back . My queen Lolo , did not say a thing , he simply ignored me like always .

They can all outcast me and I would not do a thing but him I could not accept it . He was mine after all , I loved him and like my father the king I would not let go of what was destined to me.

I followed Olwethu , home one day trying to get him to talk to me but he just refused.

" My queen Lolo , please talk to me , I promise I won't do anything to you , in any case I'll keep following you until you talk to me ".

He said nothing as always so I held his slender wrist . He turned , " unhand me , I do not wish to be seen with you in this village is that clear ?" Those words went straight into my heart like a sharpened blade .

I felt like I could not breathe , yet I could not cry or so to say I did not want to . I was not that weak , though I think crying can be a kind of strength it still did not sit well with me .

" Lolo" I called out , he just glared at me . " Do not call me that , my name is Olwethu , use it " . With that he turned and walked away from me .

Just then I heard mocking laughter. I turned and calmly looked at the boys infront of me . I was older now so no one dared to challenge me in a fight since I won each and every one of them.

I was taller and stronger , my brown hair was cut shorter and my brown eyes were darker . I looked like the picture perfect image of my father the king .

" Like father like son truly , are you trying to woo a man ?" I looked at them without a word.

I was never a man of many words unless I had something important to say .

I left the boys just like that , infront of me they were insignificant pests . Not worth my time in the least . I looked at my hand that had touched my queen Lolo's wrist a moment ago and smirked.

He could run of cause but I always caught the prey when I went hunting.  The other thing was my cursed gift , I laughed mockingly as I thought of it . " What did I do wrong to deserve this ?" I asked no one , yet I received a reply.

From who you might ask . It was from the trees around me . Yes as I've already told you I can talk to nature . Thank God I could not talk to animals , imagine if I talked to things I considered food .

That would have been odd . " Child , you should not deny what was gifted to you , that which was given to you is very precious , believe us they will need you ".

I did not listen to the trees busy lost in my self hatred. I walked home and found my father sitting outside on a bench .

He was sharpening his spear , aside from his beloved pistol , that was what he used to hunt animals . " You seem troubled son " father spoke now looking at me .

" I'm having problems papa" he looked at me then patted the space next to him on the bench ." It seems I have not told you the story of your great grandma yet , like you she had a gift and like you she was an outcast , like you she hated it and like you she tried to denounce it".

With that he looked up at the sky , " son i will tell you all about it , I don't know much about her but I know most things " . He looked at me . " Well son this is how it started ".
