Mafia Kings: Roberto: Chapter 96
Mafia Kings: Roberto: Dark Mafia Romance Series #5
Iexpected Lau and Han â
But Xi, Gota, and half a dozen of their men rushed to the open doorway, too.
Everyone but Lau was brandishing a gun â
And all of those guns were pointed at me.
I intentionally left the Smith & Wesson on the desk. I didnât want to give them a reason to open fire.
âYou,â Lau seethed the instant he saw me. I had never seen such rage and malevolence on his face before.
I held up the detonator in my hand so everyone could see the green light. âBefore anyone makes any rash decisions, there are two things you should know.â
âWhat the fuck is that?!â Gota snarled.
âA detonator for a block of C4, set to a dead manâs switch,â I said.
Lau looked over at the desk where Mei-ling was peeking out.
If looks could kill, she would have been incinerated.
âThatâs right â she didnât tell you everything I bought on the black market,â I said, unable to keep myself from gloating just a tiny bit. âIf any of you shoot me, Iâll let go of this detonator, the C4 will explode, and weâll all die together.â
âYouâre bluffing,â Gota sneered.
I looked at Gota, but I said, âMr. Han?â
There was a long pauseâ¦
And then Han said quietly, âHe doesnât bluff.â
So he did remember our night at the casino.
Gotaâs face went slack with shock.
Most of the lower-level gangsters looked like they were about to shit their pants.
Han scowled â
But Lau?
Lau smirked like he was amused.
âYou said I should know two things,â he said. âWhat is the second?â
âI just transferred 250 million dollarsâ worth of Bitcoin from the Syndicateâs account to one of my own.â
Lauâs smirk quickly faded.
âSo if you shoot me,â I continued, ânot only will you die, but youâll never get your money back. Although I suppose you wonât really care, since youâll be dead.â
Lauâs emotions pivoted back to rage. âYou STOLE from me?!â
âBorrowed.â
âOh, and youâll just willingly give it back!â the old man snarled sarcastically.
âYes, I will. Minus the 50 million thatâs mine.â
Lauâs eyes widened. âThatâs what this is about?!â
âThatâs what this has always been about.â
Lau laughed â more in disbelief than amusement. âWhy should I believe you?â
âFor the same reason you didnât kill me when my uncle tried to bribe you: I donât need more enemies. I certainly donât want a war with you, the triads, and the Yakuza, especially while weâre fighting my uncle.
âWhich is why⦠if you give me and Mei-ling safe passage to the airport, and allow us to return to Italy⦠youâll receive all 200 million dollars back. I swear it on my familyâs lives.â
At the mention of her name, Lau glared at Mei-ling behind the desk.
He said something vicious in Cantonese, and she shouted back at him.
Han swung his pistol in her direction â
âPoint your gun at me,â I warned. âIf anyone harms her in any way, Iâll kill all of you.â
âYouâll kill her, too,â Han pointed out.
âShe told me that if we didnât succeed, she wanted to die â â
I looked at Lau.
â â because what you would do to her would be worse. â
The old man didnât contradict me, which I took as confirmation.
âBoth Mei-ling and I are happy to go out in a blaze of glory and take all of you with us. So â all guns on me.â
Han reluctantly pointed his pistol back in my direction.
But there was at least one person who wasnât convinced.
âThat means youâll die, too,â Gota said.
âThatâs correct.â
The Yakuza boss gave me a youâre-full-of-shit smile. âYou wonât do it.â
âIf all of you die, no one will ever know where the Bitcoin went. The Syndicateâs accountants will just know it got transferred out, but theyâll never be able to retrieve it.â
âBut youâll be DEAD!â Gota roared, like I was an idiot for not seeing the flaw in my plan.
âAnd I will have secured a 400% profit for my family. Iâd say thatâs an excellent return on investment.â
Gota shook his head in disbelief. âYou would die so your brothers can be rich?â
âSo they can survive and win the war against my uncle?â I paused, then smiled. âYes. Absolutely.â
âI donât believe you,â Gota sneered â
And aimed his gun at my head.
âHere,â I replied. âLet me make it easier for you.â
I slowly walked around the deskâ¦
Holding up the detonator so everyone could see itâ¦
And pressed my forehead against the barrel of Gotaâs gun.
I stared into his eyes as I said, âIf youâre so confident⦠pull the trigger.â
Gota stared at me like I was absolutely insane.
âYou called me a half-breed yesterday,â I said coldly. âDo you remember?â
Gota swallowed hard. âYes.â
I gave him a chilling smile. âYou were right. The Florentine banker in me tried to play nice⦠but youâre dealing with the Sicilian half now.â
