Chapter 4.7
Dragonblood - The Arrival
Chapter4.7
Almost imperceptibly, he shook his head. A name didn't count and didn't make any difference since she wouldn't stick around. He only cared about the one she would end up staying with.
Elgatos nodded and hoped he could talk to her again. He didn't want her to slip up and remember that Elgatos had mentioned Rei's name. There would undoubtedly be consequences.
The longer the guard was treated by the dragon, the more he relaxed. The herbs also began to take effect, so he opened his eyes to see if Quinn was already asleep.
The latter had indeed closed her eyes and was breathing calmly. So she seemed to be asleep, which he quite welcomed.
Rei said that he would retire as soon as the treatment was finished with a nod of his head in her direction. "If anything is wrong, let me know," he asked Elgatos urgently.
The latter nodded, hoping for a quiet night. He also hoped that he would get a chance to sleep somewhere where the men would not keep him awake since there was actually a general bedtime.
Since Elgatos had to keep watch at Quinn's, Rei allowed him to sleep the next day. It would probably change Elgatos' rhythm, but as long as it was there, it had to be. Rei needed to be rested to be able to handle such a situation as today.
Quietly, he whispered to the older dragon that he could sleep in the small chamber when Rei was awake. There was silence there, and it was warm. Elgatos nodded gratefully, for he would be spared the noise downstairs. It was a great sign of trust that Rei would not let him sleep in the cellar until then.
In doing so, the guard might as well chain them up or otherwise lock them up overnight. Elgatos was almost certain that she could not escape while wearing the leather cage. He had seen it only by accident when her top had slipped. She hadn't been wearing a dress then.
At the moment, Rei was less concerned with whether or not she could escape. As long as she wore the cage, her magic was stopped, and she would not be able to get the heavy iron door open. It was the only way out of the castle, and very few could open it.
It was much more important to him that she get quick help if she had a seizure. And since Elgatos had experience with this and he trusted him not to touch her, it was apparent that he should stay with the young woman.
Now she seemed to be sleeping peacefully, and Rei hoped she would sleep through the night as well. If all went well, he would get feedback tomorrow on what to do with her. Whether he should start over or continue the transformation.
He hoped not to have to start all over again. Having to put Quinn through all that torture also would be a disaster. No one knew if she would survive it. But neither did anyone know if she would survive the last two phases. The guard simply didn't want to harm her in any way, shape, or form.
As soon as Elgatos was done, Rei stood up and nodded to him gratefully. "If anything is wrong, call me," he asked, walking up to the bed to gently touch Quinn's forehead, wanting to know if she had a fever or not.
She wasn't warm, but she also wasn't as cool as he had hoped. It seemed like her body was still working.
Rei knew that there were specific periods when one had to go through the phases, but he had always wondered what would happen if women just had more time to get used to everything. Whether it was better or worse for the body.
Quinn was quite chipper, after all. Yet, it was said that too much time weakened women.
I wonder if that's why she collapsed so often. He couldn't be sure. Hopefully, the next day would bring the hoped-for answer from the Highest.
Before he left, he nodded once more to Elgatos and then pulled the door shut behind him to go to sleep as long as the elder dragon stayed with Quinn.
