Chapter 34

31 | SHE'S HURTING

WAR OF HEARTS • hayley marshall

Black veins and a grey-blue colour covered every inch of Khalia Mikaelson's body. A dagger was stuck in her heart and the Demon Mikaelson lied in her dagger incuded slumber. Her eyes was closed and the look on her fae, despite the veins and colouring, was peaceful. It was something that Elijah and Klaus Mikaelson had not seen on their sister's face in almost a year. The brother's stared down at their sister, knowing that they would have to pull the dagger out sometime soon.

Klaus' anger with Rebekah had somewhat simmered somewhat and he knew that she would like to bid Khalia farewell before she left. The Hybrid cast a glance at his older brother. "I think it would be best if you left for now." Elijah nodded in agreement and sped as far away from the Compound as he could.

The Hybrid took a deep breath before removing the dagger. Klaus braced himself but nothing could have prepared him for the unearthly growl  - which sounded like something demonic - that came from his sister. She shot up from her bed, wrapped her hand around Klaus' throat and sped him to the nearest wall. She moved her arm against his throat and used her limited strength to keep him pinned to the wall.

"Where is Elijah?" She demanded as Klaus struggled for breath - Klaus didn't try to get her hands of him, it would only take one move for her and his neck would be snapped. "Where. Is. Elijah?" She asked again when he didn't answer her. The blonde gestured to his throat and Khalia removed some of the pressure, but only enough for him to talk.

"Our sister is leaving the city." Klaus said and Khalia let him go, looking shell shocked and wide-eyed at her brother. Out of all the things in the world she expected to happen, this is not one of them.

"What? Why? What happened?" Khalia was monumentally confused. And so, Klaus started telling her what happened. About being struck with Papa Tunde's blade, gathering the White Oak Stake to kill Rebekah - for which Khalia did not blame him, then he told her about the show off in the cemetary and how he eventually set Rebekah free.

Klaus saw the relieved look in her eyes, relief that he didn't kill Rebekah. For all her rage and anger towards Rebekah for calling Mikael to the city and towards Elijah for daggering her, the Hybrid knew that she didn't want to lose another sibling. That didn't mean that she wouldn't be cross with Elijah for a while and give him a propper ass-kicking the second she saw him again. Klaus looked forward to it.

"A girl gets daggered for five minutes and she misses all the fun." Khalia huffed teasingly, pouting a little. Then she noticed something. In all of his explanations, Klaus never once mentioned a certain pregnant werewolf. "Where is Hayley?"

Klaus hesitated. He knew that question would come up eventually. He also knew something that Hayley didn't, that something being that whatever there was between her and his sister would be destroyed because of her decision to stay in that godforsaken swamp. "She's in the Bayou."

Khalia's face fell and it felt like someone pushed their hand in her chest and was squeezing her heart. She took a deep breath to compose herself. "What in the bloody hell is she doing there?" Khalia frowned dangerously, her voice trembling slightly. The Hybrid noticed it immediately, but didn't comment on it. He knew better.

"She wants to spend some time with her family." Klaus answered, internally wincing when he saw the look on his sister's face. It looked like someone - Hayley, if he was pointing fingers here - slapped her across the face.

"I see." Khalia nodded, her eyes turning into stone. She turned away from her brother, blinking furiously as to clear her suddenly blurry eyes. The female Mikaelson cleared her throat and took another deep breath, exhaling shakily. "So, where is our sister?"

"I'm right here." A familiar voice said from behind her. Khalia spun around and saw a head of blonde hair that was just as familiar as the voice. She also saw that Klaus was gone. Khalia didn't know what to feel. Anger because of her betrayal? Sadness because she is leaving? Or maybe she should fake indifference? Not one of those three options seemed particularly intriguing.

"I don't know what to say." Khalia finally admitted after a small infinity's silence.

Rebekah looked dejected, but not surprised. "I don't blame you. I just wanted to say goodbye."

"Well, then, goodbye." The brunette even tried for a smile.

There was so much that Rebekah wanted to say before she left. She wanted to tell her sister not to push Hayley or the feelings that she has for her away. The blonde wanted to tell her sister that she loves her. She wanted to tell her that she is sorry for betraying their family. That she hopes that Khalia could find it in her to one day forgive her.

But she didn't.

She had no right to do so. Not at the moment. Rebekah knows her sister, better than what Khalia might think. She also knows that if she says any of those things right now, Khalia would lash out at her and say something that would hurt more than a stake to the heart ever could. Just like she always does when she's hurt.

"Goodbye, sister." The blonde gave her sister a sad smile before turning around.

"Rebekah," Khalia called before the blonde could leave. Rebekah stopped and turned back to her sister. "Inspite of what you've done and my anger towards your actions, my hope for you is to find the happiness you seek on your new adventure."

Rebekah's eyes blurred. "Thank you, Khalia."

"And should you ever find yourself in trouble, remember that we are here." Khalia added on as an after thought. Rebekah nodded and turned around. This time her sister didn't stop her. It's a good thing too, she didn't want Khalia to see the tears rolling down her cheeks.

The Demon Mikaelson waited for her brother Elijah to come home. She sat on the balcony railing, watching the Compound enterance. Unlike herself, who would sneak in through a window when she upset on of her siblings, Elijah found such things completely barbarian and Khalia knew he would be coming through the front door. It took six hours of waiting before her brother finally showed up. She jumped down from the landing and landed perfectly on her feet, not far from her brother.

Khalia noticed the way his whole body tensed and the girl let a dark smirk cover her face, anger bubbling beneath the surface. "Hello brother, I believe you and I have some unfinished bussiness."

"Khalia, could you please just let me explain?" Elijah asked, holding his hands up in the universal sign of surrender. The female scoffed, finally letting all of the rage she felt come to the surface, then she sped forward and punched her brother in the face so hard that he flew through the air and landed on his back with a loud thud, the floor rumbled slightly beneath her feet.

"Explain? What is there to explain, Elijah? You daggered me!" She spat, her voice raising in a loud shout. Khalia waited as her brother got to his feet. Then, she leaped in the air and kicked her brother in the chest, making him fall on his back once more. Before he could recover, she sped forward and dug the heel of her stiletto boot in his throat.

She ripped her heel out of his throat, silently hoping that he would bleed out and die temporarily. She knew he wouldn't, their vampire healing would prevent that. She lifted her leg, about to kick him in the abdomen but he caught her foot and threw her through the air. Khalia crashed onto the table, it shattered as a result of her body hitting it with that much force.

"That is enough." He told her, voice raising slightly as he got up, rubbing his bloody throat all the way. Khalia snapped, finally letting out all of the anger she was feeling.

"Enough? Enough!?" She snarled at him as her vampire veins beneath her eyes came to the surface, standing up and ripping out the piece of wood that got stuck in the back of her thigh. The female Mikaelon launched it at her brother before picking up a bigger piece of wood and throwing it at her brother as well. She was so angry, so enraged that she almost couldn't breathe, and she just wanted to hurt her brother. "There is line, brother, and you crossed it."

Then she sped to him and knocked him to the ground for a third him. She sat ontop of him with her knees on either side of his waist and she started hitting him in the face with her fists. Over and over and over and over again, she hit him until his face was bloodied and didn't even properly resemble something human anymore. Using her supernatural hearing, she listened for a heatbeat. It was weak, but slowly started getting stronger. Being one that believes in a life for a life, Khalia snapped her brother's neck before getting up from him - leaving his dead body there.

The female immortal went in search of alcohol. She found five bottles, one tequila, three bourbon and one vodka. Her brother's had a thing for bourbon. Why, she did not know. Personally, vodka is her favorite, then tequila and bourbon last. So, she decided to worked her way from the bourbon up and save the best for last. Taking the three bottles, she walked to the staircase in the courtyard and sat down on the bottom stair, watching her brother's corpse as she started with her fist bottle of bourbon.

The pace that she drank, depended on her mood. Right now, she wasn't paticularly angry anymore. Most of that faded during the fight and her search for booze. All that remain now was the hurt of Elijah's betrayal and a hollow feeling in her chest that started when she found out Hayley left for the Bayou, which was getting bigger with each passing second.

She was just starting with her third and last Bourbon bottle when her brother stirred. He sat up and looked around, freezing when his gaze landed on his sister. His face was healed and save for the blood, he looked like Elijah again. She didn't say anything, she didn't want to speak and even if she did, she had nothing to say to him.

"Why are you so angry? Niklaus has done it to you hundreds of times over." Elijah weakly attempted to defend himself after a long while of silence.

Khalia eyes narrowed at him. "It is Niklaus' signature move for when one of us inevitably disappoints him, but not yours, Elijah." She snapped glaringly. "I expected better from you, oh dearest noble brother." She snarked with a sarcastic tone, taking a long pull of her bourbon.

"Maybe you shouldn't." Elijah retorted quickly and his words took Khalia by surprise. "Maybe I am just as big of a monster as you and Niklaus."

Khalia considered him for a moment, then she snorted with a shrug, "Tell me something I don't know."

Elijah wanted to say something, to defend himself, but it was true. Klaus' earlier words stuck with him. That he is just as much of a monster as the rest of them. He looked at his sister, saw that her rage was still burning brightly but there was a sort of weakness around her that he's never seen before. She was empty and sad and distructive after Kol's death, but never weak. Now, it was almost as if she was tired and defeated and a little lifeless. Elijah was suddenly very scared.

Khalia got up, leaving the empty bottles but taking the three that still had alcohol inside of them. She walked to her brother and handed the open bottle of bourbon to him - no way she was giving him one of her two favourites. He took it, the corners of his lips quirking upwards for a split second. Then she sat down across from him with her legs stretched out infront of her, setting down the vodka and opening the tequila. She took a long pull of the alcohol.

"Why are you so angry?" He repeated his earlier question.

"Do you suffer from short term memory loss, or are you just plain stupid?" She asked, tilting her head as she looked at him with a frown. Two bottles in and she felt pleasantly buzzed and slightly relaxed but she was nowhere near drunk. "You daggered me."

Elijah drank from his bottle. "There is something else. Something that is making you enraged. I know you, Khalia, and my actions did not call for this level of anger."

"Just shut the fuck up before I snap your neck again." Khalia spat at him, avoiding his eyes. She cursed him for knowing her so well, even with all of her attempts to hide what she is feeling.

"If that is going to make you feel better, then go ahead." Elijah shrugged, much to Khalia's disappointment. She had hoped her threat would scare him into leaving the subject alone. "Violence is only a temporary fix, Khalia, you need to talk about it. Whatever is causing you to be this angry comes from something that you don't want to deal with. Something that is most likely hurting you emotionally."

"And you know this how exactly?" Khalia glared over at her brother, getting up as the faded anger began rising to the surface once again. The female vampire started to down the bottle of tequila.

"Because I know you." He answered simply and the girl scoffed when she finished her drink. She licked her lips, eyes looking around for a way to escape. Elijah hit to close to home with his words.

Yes, Khalia is hurting. She's hurting because Hayley left. And no, she doesn't want to deal with it. If she did, she'd go to Nik's therapist human for a session on the couch. Because of her unwillingness to deal with the hurt and frustration because she cares so damn much about the pregnant werewolf in the first place, she got angry.

Khalia Mikaelson is a lot of things. Stupid is not one of those things. She knows she cares so much because Hayley Marshall is slowly but surely worming her way into every piece of Khalia's shattered heart. And that made her even more angry. So angry that she used Elijah daggering her as an excuse to let out all of that anger.

The anger she felt towards her brother, was nothing compared to the anger she felt because she cares about that brunette beauty with green eyes and a heart stopping smile. Khalia sped out of the compound, mumbling and grumbling curse words all the away. She sped into an alley with a couple walking by in it. She compelled them both to stand still before starting to feed on them and quickly draining them of all their blood and relishing in the screams of pain and horror that came from them.

Khalia Mikaelson didn't want to consiously admit it, but she was so incredibly and unbelievably fucked when it came to Hayley Marshall.
