Chapter 32

29 | CONQUER THE WORLD

WAR OF HEARTS • hayley marshall

Khalia Mikaelson was restless. She couldn't sleep or relax or do anything of much except worry about her brother and her sister. For a thousand years, they were the Original family of vampires. No one dared to touch them. Then Klaus made enemies in Mystic Falls and she lost her twin and her oldest brother - yes, Finn was a dick but he was still her brother - as a result. Now they are in New Orleans and the witches attack them and the vampire's plot against them.

Khalia let out a frustrated snarl, smacking her hand on the counter table, the granite shattering under the force. The next moment, her brother was next to her. Elijah gave her a disapproving look. "Do not look at me like that, Elijah. My instincts are screaming to go out onto the streets and kill anything with a human pulse that crosses my path."

"Well," The eldest living Mikaelson said, straightening his jacket. "When you put it like that, a counter does not seem so bad in the grand scheme of things."

Khalia's lips twitched slightly. Then she looked at her brother with concerned eyes. "We'll find them, right?"

Elijah was thrown back a millenia in the past, an image of a scared Khalia entering his mind once when she woke up after a nightmare during a storm. She did not want to wake Kol and so she sneaked into his and Niklaus' room. He held her and promised her that everything would be okay.

"We'll find them." Elijah swore seriously. He would find his siblings if it is the last thing he does. "I was about to go see Monique Deveraux. If you'd like to join me."

"Depends." She said, the look in her face thoughtful and cunning. Elijah shook his head. She resembles Kol and Klaus so much in that moment.

Elijah then rolled his eyes, knowing exactly what his sister wants. "Yes, you get to kill whoever you wish to. They did take our siblings afterall."

Khalia smirked and the two sped of together to Layette Cemetery. No wonder witches are so creepy, they hang out in a cemetery for fuck sakes. Elijah appears first and quickly takes out three people at vampire speed, Monique is not phased, but other witches gasp. Then Khalia comes in and rips out five witches hearts, dropping them all at Monique's feet.

"Our siblings have been taken. Where are they?" Elijah asked, cutting to the chase. Witches were to scared to move as the Demon Mikaelson took place next to her noble brother, blood dripping from her hands and a cold look on her face, her eyes black and unreadable.

"You’re interrupting my Aunt Sophie’s consecration." Monique told them, pushing down the anger and nausea she felt when she looked at the five hearts down by her feet. She looked into Khalia's eyes only for a second before adverting her gaze back to Elijah. He was much easier to deal with that his psychotic sister is.

The immortal girl smirked, "Good riddance." Then she frowned. "I must say, I am a bit disappointed. I wanted to be the one to kill her for linking herself to my sweetheart and trying to order us around." Then Khalia shrugged. "No matter, her being dead is good enough for me."

Elijah gave his sister an exasperated look - could she not keep her mouth shut for once? - before asking in confusion, "How did this happen?"

"Aunt Sophie was a casualty of war." Monique smiled and Khalia narrowed her eyes in suspicion at the resurrected Harvest witch.

"You do not look awfully bothered by that fact." The female Mikaelson pointed out, rubbing her blood coated hands on her skinny jeans before crossing her arms over her chest.

"Monique, I recommend you give us what we want. Unless, of course, you’d like us to level this place and everything in it. I can promise you that my sister will have no qualms starting with you." The eldest Mikaelson informed the witch matter-of-factly.

"None whatsoever." Khalia smirked, taking a step closer to the witch, making Monique take one back. The immortal girl's smirk widened at the action.

"That won’t be necessary. I have a message for you from Celeste." She raises her hand toward Elijah and starts casting a spell on him, making Khalia frown dangerously. Elijah, suddenly uncomfortable, pulls at the collar of his shirt. When he rips open the top button of his shirt, he sees the name Theresa tattooed on his chest. Monique continues the spell as many more names appear on his body, including the familiar name Sabine.

"What the fuck is a bunch of tattoos supposed to mean? I know for a fact that it is not the names of all his ex-girlfriends. He only has four of those." Khalia spoke, looking at the names and missing the stunned look Elijah gave her.

"To find what you’re looking for, follow the path she left behind." Monique said and Khalia's anger at Celeste ignited again, burning like an unstoppable fire.

"Where is she?" Khalia snarled at the witch, glaring fiercely.

Monique smiled to hid her nerves and clenched her fists to hide her shaking hands. Khalia Mikaelson is the most terrifying vampire she has ever met. "I can't tell you."

"Khalia, let's go." Elijah told his sister, grabbing her by the elbow and tugging her to the exit. He needed to get back to the Compound and figure out what the hell all of the names on his body means.

Khalia gave Monique one last withering look. "You tell Celeste that Khalia Mikaelson says she better make sure I don't see her again, because I will rip her to shreds the next time she is in my line of vision."

"My four girlfriend's?" Elijah asked as soon as they were out of hearing range of the witches. Khalia shot him a 'seriously' look to which he nodded.

She rolled her eyes. "Tatia, Aya, Katerina and Celeste."

"That is remarkably accurate." Elijah was gobsmacked. He did not think that of all his siblings that Khalia would keep track of his dating history.

"I know it seemed that I only cared about Kol, but that is far from the truth. Yes, my loyalty and love for and to him far surpassed my loyalty and love for the rest of you, but I do love everyone of my siblings." Khalia smiled slightly at the shocked look on Elijah's face. "So, when one of you got a girlfriend or in Rebekah's case, a boyfriend, that got serious then I made a point of getting to know the person."

The Mikaelson siblings sped back to the Compound in silence. The dark haired male was still stunned - he honestly never thought that his sister cares much about them. Loves them? Absolutely. Cares about them? Not so much. Which is why he is so surprised. He shook his head. He would never figure her out. Elijah and Khalia enters the courtyard to find Marcel sending out more troops to search the city.

"Anything?" Elijah asked hopefully, pushing the thoughts about his sister far out of his mind.

"They're putting eyes and ears out everywhere. Daywalkers are working every contact we’ve got. Cops, dock workers, guys in the Treme... Word is out: anyone trying to earn favor with me gets a lifetime of it if they find them." Marcel tells them and the Mikaelson sister pulls a face.

"That seemed like fantastic reasoning, the perfect motivation to go against murderous witches." Khalia deadpanned, clearly sarcastic. Marcel rolled his eyes but otherwise didn't react to her words.

"I need a pen and paper." Elijah interrupted them before he walks away with his sister following him, and after Marcel pauses a moment and rolls his eyes again, he follows behind him.

"Hey, am I taking orders from you now, or are we in this together?" The former vampire King asked, regretting it immediately when he saw the smug smirk on Khalia's face.

"You're taking the orders." Khalia smirked, before looking down at the blood underneath her fingernails. She frowned. "I need a shower." The Mikaelson girl glanced at her brother, who nodded at her before she sped upto her room.

According to Marcel, the spell on Elijah is called a Devinette. It's a riddle of sorts and witches use it to teach their children - if they solve it, it disappears. Khalia seethed in silence, her siblings was missing and the witch responsible is literally having them play games?

Marcel also recognised one of the names on the list. Annie Le Fleur. Which is how Khalia, Elijah and Marcel ended up going to the girl's neighborhood. The three vampires have arrived at the neighborhood where Annie lived after she was shunned. Once there, they are able to speak to someone who knew her from the coven. Although, it took them a while because no one wanted to talk to Marcel, nevermind his two Original companions.

"Annie was a good girl. The witches did her wrong, shunning her like that- claiming she was doing dark magic. There’s no way. But, they had proof. So, she just quit, and I can’t really blame her for that. 'Cause once you’ve been shunned, what’s the point in going on, you know?" The man explained, giving a wary glance at the Demon Mikaelson, who got the strangest urge to stick her tongue out at him but she settled for rolling her eyes at the man. They had more important things to worry about than how a warlock eyed a vampire with distrust.

Saying goodbye, the three vampires walked back to the Compound. Somewhere along the line, Marcel sped away, muttering something about checking on his daywalkers and seeing if they've found anything. On a busy street Elijah suggests that they call Hayley and update her. After telling the werewolf what they've found out about Annie and Hayley still feeling guilty about the Mikaelson siblings saving her instead of Rebekah and Klaus, they try and figure out their next move. Khalia would have a talk with Hayley, because in her mind, there really was no choice at all. Her siblings is immortal, Hayley is mortal.

Needing to know when the other victims on the list of names on Elijah's body died, the three vampire's made their way to the City Hall, kidnapped the man who ran the records room and brought him to the Pit - a place where Marcel's nightwalkers hangout during the day. Marcel's vampires are casually relaxing at the bar when suddenly the doors fly open and a man is thrown onto the floor by the Original gentleman himself. Elijah, Khalia and Marcel follow in behind him before Marcel throws him into a chair.

Khalia wrinkles her nose in disgust as her eyes flickered around the place, looking deeply disturbed when her eye caught something. "Is that a cockroach?"

The man was clearly terrified of the supernaturals. "Wh-what do you want from me?"

"Me, personally? I want to drink you dry." Khalia shrugged and Marcel have her a 'really' look. "What I need you to tell us, on the other hand, is another thing entirely." And you gotta love the girl for playing with words so cleverly - much like Elijah himself did.

"Well, I assume you're familiar with this pigsty, quite appropriately known as the Pit." Elijah told the human and his sister snorted, muttering 'very appropriately' under her breath. "See, awkwardly enough, only weeks ago, a group of human beings just like yourself slaughtered many of the companions of the vampires that you see assembled before you here."

Marvel took over the explaining from there while Khalia listened to the man's heartbeat. "You run the records room at City Hall. We're told the former Mayor kept a detailed record of the supernatural community. A ledger of names of witches, werewolves and vampires. Specifically, their death records. We need it."

"I-I don't know where it is." The man stuttered and listening past the fear thumping marathon his heart did, Khalia heard a spike in his heartbeat.

"Liar, liar pants on fire." Khalia mocked with a smirk, taking a step forward and letting her vampire veins pass underneath her eyes. The man's eyes widened in horror. "Your heartbeat tells me another story that the one you're trying to sell."

"Anyone feeling hungry?" Elijah asked before he closes the door a little so that the sunlight coming through the doorway will allow the nightwalkers to come out.

The man took all but two seconds to cave. "Oh! Okay, w-wait! They moved the records after the Mayor died. They're at the sacristy of St. Anne's Church."

"See? There, wasn't so difficult, now, was it?" Elijah asked snidely.

"Can I kill him? Pretty please?" Khalia asked with a hopeful smile. It's been weeks since she's had blood from the vein. Elijah almost said yes. Almost.

"No." He denied, shaking his head firmly.

"Why not?" She whined, frowning petulantly. Then the Original girl huffed. "Do you know what? I don't need your permission. I can do what I want."

Elijah grabbed his sister by the arm. "Yes, you can. And the second we find our brother and sister, you may kill whoever you want, right now, we need to figure out how to find them." The Original male bargained, already thinking of asking Hayley to occupy his sister when they find Klaus and Rebekah. He would never say it out loud - he did not fancy getting his neck snapped - but he knew that all Hayley had to do was ask and Khalia would conquer the world for her.

And wouldn't it be funny if Khalia actually conquered the world for Hayley?

Hope you enjoyed.
