23 | I DON'T HATE YOU
WAR OF HEARTS • hayley marshall
The next day, Elijah was looking through an old book about witches throughout the ages. According to Elijah, who assembled pieces of Davina's sketches which turned out to be his old lover Celeste, Davina called her an evil. Khalia then went to have another talk with Hayley and the pregnant girl asked the female Original to let her tell Elijah herself. Reluctantly, she agreed because Khalia knew her brother would be angrier if it didn't come from Hayley herself. That being said, the two male Mikaelson's wondered what the sketches meant, the female not caring if it didn't affect her family or Hayley and the baby. Right now, Khalia was sitting in a room with her dark haired brother and the werewolf as he talked about witches.
"The Italians call them strega. The Yoruba of West Africa call them aje, meaning mother. Where my mother was from, they called them häxa, and here we call them witch. Over the centuries, vampires have fought them and fought beside them, bedded them and burned them. Whether adversary or ally, they have been a force to be reckoned with. Their ancestral magic anchors this city." Elijah told them, looking slightly more uptight than usual - and that was saying something.
"Thank you for that unasked history lesson." Khalia snarked with a roll of her eyes. "Do you have a point that you'd like to make, Professor?" The Original asked as she made herself comfortable on the couch, she propped her feet up on the coffee table, making some of the sketches fall of the table. Hayley smiled from where she was sitting next to the female vampire and Elijah glared at his sister.
"There's never been one all-powerful witch until Davina." The eldest living Mikaelson said, slapping his sisters feet of the table and putting the sketches in the correct order once again. Khalia rolled her eyes, but got the point and kept her feet on the ground. Hayley smiled at them, for thousand year old beings, they did surprisingly normal things. Then again, all siblings irritates one another.
"Who is now tucked in safe and sound down the hall under my protection. Your Celeste was quite beautiful and a portent of evil, according to our volatile artist in residence." The Hybrid said, walking into the room with a satisfied smirk on his face.
"Okay, first of all, you're the only volatile artist in this residence." Khalia noted, getting a smug smile from her Hybrid brother, as she stood up to look for some booze. "Second of all, in order to be an evil, doesn't the witch have to be, geez I don't know, alive?"
"Yes." Elijah agreed with his sister. "Perhaps Davina's mistaken what she calls evil for power. Celeste was certainly very powerful in her day, but she's been dead for over two hundred years. I don't understand. Why all these sketches now?" The eldest Original said and Khalia rummaged through the cupboards, grinning when she found a nice bottle of Scotch.
"Why does any witch do anything?" Klaus asked retortically, not really looking for an answer but rather to give Elijah one to his question.
"To pissed people of." Khalia suggested with a shrug, plopping back down next to Hayley, a little closer than she was before. The sound of something crashing and breaking takes the attention of the four supernaturals and they listen to Davina and Marcel fight.
"So glad I'm never having kids." Khalia muttered, taking a long pull of Scotch. She turned to Hayley. "No offense, sweetheart."
"None taken." She assured the vampire with a small smile.
"Well, that's going well." The Hybrid said, refering to the fighting between the vampire and the witch upstairs.
"If you were trying to win the girl's trust, perhaps snapping her one true love's neck was not the most splendid idea." Elijah commented matter-of-factly and Khalia smirked, knowing he was glaring at her.
"I don't want her trust and she started it." Khalia retorted oh-so-maturely with a shrug. Elijah took a deep breath and prayed for strength. "Besides, she's young. She'll find someone else."
"Khalia, you are over a thousand years old and you've never loved someone out of our family in all of that time." Elijah pointed out and the vampire heaved a frustrated sigh. "You can not just assume that she will find another love in her short mortal life time."
"Well, she should have thought about that before she snapped my neck." Khalia snapped at him, glaring harshly before looking away and taking a long pull from the bottle. Elijah knew she saw their conversation as finished and would not change her reasoning.
Another sound of something breaking sounded in the living room and Klaus sighed. "Young, old, dead, or alive, witches are a pain in the ass."
"Davina, Davina!" Khalia and Klaus frowned when they heard the panicked screams of Marcel. They speed up stairs - Khalia going out of pure curiousity - and enters the room to investigate.
"What's with all the racket?" The Hybrid asked, the Mikaelson siblings stopping in their tracks when the spot Davina throwing up soil. Khalia was so shocked, her bottle of vodka slipped from her fingers. "Bloody hell."
"What the fuck?" Khalia looking at the girl in slight horror as she looked the witch throwing up soil. Suddenly, the house begins to shake violently, as though it's an earthquake and Davina's entire body trembles. Marcel shouts for her again and the shaking stops. The sireling vampire gently layed her down on the bed.
"Marcel, with me." Klaus ordered and then looked at his sister. "Would you stay with her?" He pointed to the witch and Khalia opened her mouth to say no. She has no desire to be around the witch. At all. "Please?" And she could not say no to the pleading look her brother was giving her. God help her the day Hayley learns how to do that.
Looking back at the little witch, the Original saw that she was pale and panting, beads of sweat on her forehead. Figuring that it was in everyone's best interest that the witch doesn't die, she turned around and walked into the bathroom connected to the room.
"Oh, you're the gift that just keeps on giving." Khalia muttered as she walked back in the room with a bowl of cold water and a cloth. She walked to the bed and put the bowl on the bedside table. And just like she did with Hayley months ago, she wiped Davina's forehead and the witch sighed inrelief. Khalia then remarked, "You know, Davina, I've seen a lot in my life, but someone throwing up dirt? That's a first."
"What's with the sudden change of heart?" Davina asked, eyes narrowed as she looked up at the vampire. She tensed, ready to defend herself incase the Demon Mikaelson was going to try anything crazy, like snap her neck or rip out her heart. Klaus may have told them that Davina is under his protection, but Marcel told the little witch that Khalia isn't someone that follows orders. She marches to the beat of her own drum.
"Haven't you heard? I don't have a heart." The Original smirked. Well, that's not exactly true. She had a heart, but it turned to ice with Kol's death. Slowly, but surely, it has started to thaw. But the vampire does not want to think about that. Instead, Khalia looked at the witch seriously. "Klaus simply asked me to stay with you while he, Marcel and Elijah figure out what to do with you. Or what's wrong with you."
"I thought you hated me." Davina admitted and the immortal girl rolled her eyes as she heaved a sigh.
"I don't hate you, Davina. I don't particularly like you, but I don't hate you either. Believe it or not, it takes quite a lot for me to hate someone and on this earth, there is only two people I've ever really hated." Khalia told the witch honestly as she wiped down her forehead with the cloth. "When you threatened Hayley, well that was not something that counted in your favour. If anyone threatens her, it is more than likely that they will not see the next sunrise. You also snapped my neck, and for that I wanted you dead, so I killed you. Now, I have no reason to kill you again. Unless you give me one." She purposely left out the part about killing her love as well, not wanting to poke at the girl with her powers acting out.
"Who is it?" The brunette girl asked, refering to the people she hates, overly curious and strangely intruged by the walking puzzle that is Khalia Mikaelson.
"My father and the person who killed my twin brother." The vampire told her shortly, eyes turning to stone and the glimpse of the human side to Khalia Mikaelson disappeared as fast as it appeared. Davina kept quiet, not asking anymore questions as she mulled over the Original's words.
With hating her father and losing her twin brother, Davina thought, it's no wonder she's so demon-like. And for the first time since meeting Khalia the previous day, the witch felt something other than hatred towards her.

A while later, Marcel and Khalia swapped places and the brunette female Mikaelson has just entered the living room when her eldest brother speeds back into the compound. Klaus and Rebekah was already present. She zeroed in on the cupboard that she found the scotch in earlier and took the last bottle.
"So you have stolen the remains of the very person that Davina's been drawing for months. Would you care to explain this startling coincidence?" Elijah spoke and Khalia's eyes widened as she closed the door of the cupboard. If her eldest brother knew that, then he knew about what Hayley had done.
"I can't. I didn't even know who Celeste Dubois was until I-" She is cut off when the house starts to shake violently, like the earthquake from earlier. Sophie looks alarmed, but Klaus, Khalia Elijah, and Rebekah seem merely irritated. "Was that Davina?"
"No, it was mother nature telling you to stop lying to us before you loose your head." Khalia drawled, half-serious and half-sarcastic as she opened the bottle of scotch. She looked at the bottle with a frown - if this level of disasters was going to keep coming, they were going to need a lot more booze.
"Charming little habit she's developed." The Hybrid confirmed with a nod of his head as his lips tilted up ever so slightly from his sisters words.
"And the earthquake I felt today?" The witch asked, starting to looked panicked. The Demon Mikaelson looked at the witch, wondering what the hell was going on inside that head of hers.
"Also Davina. And, she's taken to vomiting dirt." Rebekah answered, wondering herself where the witch was going with all of her questions.
"Yes, that was quite disturbing to see." Khalia added, taking a long pull of her liquor. She sighed when she pulled away. "And I have seen many things with my brother and his love for witchcraft."
"Oh. We have a huge problem. I thought that we had more time, but we need to complete the Harvest now." Sophie told them, full on panicking now. Khalia scoffed at the witch with a dark glare on her beautiful face.
"Said the desperate witch, conveniently." Klaus quipped, clearly not believing a word out of her mouth, much like his brunette sister.
"I'm serious! That earthquake you just felt is a preview of the disaster movie that is about to hit us." Sophie said desperately, hoping to convince them, hoping that they'd believe her. Only Klaus had to believe her. For all Khalia's refusal to take orders, Sophie knew that she'd follow her brother to the end of the world.
"Pardon me if I'm having trouble believing the witch that bound my sweetheart, who is pregnant by the way, to her, just so she has leverage over us." Khalia's already dark glare increased and a look around the room told the female brunette Mikaelson she wasn't the only one who didn't believe her.
"I believe what my sister is trying to say is, why should we believe you?" Elijah spoke up, ever the mediator, much gentler than his sister just did.
"You've met Davina, you know her story. For months now, she's been holding all the power of the three girls sacrificed in the Harvest ritual. A force that was meant to flow through her and back into the earth. One person was never meant to hold that much power. It's tearing her apart, and it will take us down with it." The Devereaux witch explained them.
"You know, back in Mystic Falls, there lives a witch that once whielded the power of one hundred witches." Khalia interjected, remembering what Caroline once told her when she visited her. Of course she wasn't about to tell them that Bonnie Bennett almost killed her brother with that power.
"Look, I don't know how things work in Mystic Falls, but in New Orleans witches are not allowed to have that much power." Sophie retorted, briefly wondering how that was even possible and wondering if Khalia was lying to her. The seriousness on the immortal brunette girl's face told her she wasn't lying.
Khalia shrugged and looked at her brother, "Your choice, Nik."

A groan fell from Khalia's lips as she heaved herself up from her bed. Fucking Marcel. They had a plan: concecrate Elijah's dead lover's remains, have Sophie complete the harvest. And then, the vampire just had to go and play hero by taking Davina. The vampire sped downstairs to where her two siblings were.
Her blonde sister was standing with her phone pressed against her ear when Khalia entered the room. It was Elijah's voice that came through the phone. "Rebekah."
"He's taken the girl." Her sister practically snarled and am Khalia's eyebrows rose. The last time she heard her sister this angry was when she woke up after having a dagger stuck into her back.
"Who has?" Elijah asked, not sure who his sister was talking about.
"Bloody, bloody Marcel!" Rebekah swore angrily and Khalia snorted in amusement. Her sister was seething.
"And you wanted to run off and start a life with this back-stabber!" Klaus piped up, the glare on his face directed to their blonde sister.
"Says the man who was shacking up with him not two seconds before all this went down." The female blonde retorted with a glare of her own.i
"You know, Rebekah, that sounds wrong on so many levels." Khalia remarked with a grin on her face. "But back to topic, how to find the traitorous idiot and his sidekick witch?"
"Okay. We need to divide and conquer if we're gonna stand a chance. He could have gone anywhere." Rebekah nodded to her sister as she talked to Elijah on the phone. Khalia growled in annoyance, this city was irritating her past the point of return. But Rebekah is right, Marcel really could be anywhere. For two hundred years, he has lived her. This is his home ground and he knows where to hide so that he wouldn't be found.
"Well, I'm here with Sabine. Perhaps we could try a locator spell?" Elijah suggested.
"Khalia and I will talk to the priest. They might even be at the church. It's the last place we'd think to look for them, right?" Klaus told them and Khalia frowned at her brother when she saw the strange look in his eyes - it was almost nervous.
"Okay. You two check the church, I'll check everywhere else." Rebekah nodded and sped off. Khalia eyed her brother.
"Why do you look like that?" The girl asked, raising her eyebrows at her brother.
"Like what?" He asked, voice a pitch higher than usual and that was when Khalia knew something was definitely going on with her brother.
"It's not your usual Klaus face, but it almost looks like that time you told me you want to ask Caroline out, only this isn't so bad." Khalia tried to explain, making a gesture with her hands and pointing to his face.
"I want to show you something. At the church." He told her, avoiding her eyes. The female looked at her brother for a long moment.
"Okay." Khalia agreed.

Okay, so I saw a lot of you thinking that Khalia hates Davina. She doesn't. It was never my plan for them to hate each other - I would never do that to Kol. To choose between your twin sister and the love of your life? That's as good as I make Khalia choose between Hayley and Kol. My plan is for them to get through this and become friends - but like way down in the future. I'm talking like season 2 future here.
Sorry if you're disappointed.
