8 | DEFENDING KHALIA
WAR OF HEARTS • hayley marshall
"I cannot believe I let you talk me into this." Khalia said through gritted teeth, scowling at the pregnant werewolf - who looked at the vampire with a sheepish look as they made their way through the cemetery. After Klaus left, Sophie got up and said that she was going to consecrate those witches bones. Khalia didn't stop her because she didn't care. But then Hayley got the genius idea to follow Sophie and see if she could find out something about her family and, well, Khalia did care whether Hayley lived or died, so she followed the determined werewolf. "Rebekah is going to be very pissed."
Hayley frowned, "Sorry, I didn't want to cause trouble."
"It's alright sweetheart. She'll get over it." The vampire told her, giving the werewolf the smallest of smiles and the wolf grinned as she entered the mausoleum, the vampire waiting outside for the two.
"Hey. What the hell?" The Deveraux girl asked in surprise.
"You're going out there anyway, aren't you? I wanna go with you." Hayley said adamantly and the brunette vampire smiled softly at the determination.
"No, thanks. Already got assaulted by Klaus this morning. Don't need a repeat. Besides, Khalia would kill me if there is so much as a hair out of place on your head and I like my life." The witch informed the werewolf and Khalia's smile turned into a smirked.
The immortal girl took this as her que to enter the mausoleum, "Yes, I would." She confirmed with a smirk on her face. Sophie's mood plummeted and Hayley's brightened.
"What if whatever is responsible for all those dead witches is still out there? We've already established that it likes me and hates witches, so you'll be safer with me." The pregnant girl tried to persuade the witch.
"Sorry if I'm not buying your sudden concern for my safety." The Deveraux girl said and started to make her way to the exit of the room.
"Correct me if I'm wrong," Khalia started and Sophie rolled her eyes, already knowing where the vampire was going with her words. "But your lives are linked, so by nature, Hayley has to care about your safety." Ignoring her words, the witch tries to walk around the werewolf to exit but Hayley blocks the exit - forcing Sophie to stop and listen to her.
"Khalia's right, besides, the whole reason I came to this stupid town in the first place was to learn more about my family. Your sister's the one that told me Marcel ran the werewolves out of the Quarter into the Bayou. And last night, I'm pretty sure that some guardian-angel-wolf saved my life. So, I'm coming with you." Hayley explained and just after Rebekah walks in to the mausoleum and joins the trio of girls.
The blonde rolled her eyes. "Could you two be more idiotic?" The blonde asked, rolling her eyes and then looking at her sister. "And what were you thinking?"
Khalia shrugged, not fazed by Rebekah's words, "Hayley asked me to come with her and I was thinking, 'If I said no, she'd go on her own and Klaus asked me to look after her.', so I said yes." The brunette vampire left out the apart about how she nearly melted when looking into Hayley's pleading eyes and did it because she would never forgive herself if something happened to the werewolf or the baby.
"Two can play the follow-game, you know! You heard Klaus, he and Marcel are headed right where you're going." She scolded them and grit her teeth in annoyance when Khalia started to look at her nails - an indication that she was bored of this conversation.
"So distract them. Because unless you wanna lock a hormonal, pregnant werewolf in a tomb, I'm coming with you. And wouldn't Elijah be mad if he hears that the baby and I died of asphyxiation?" Khalia snickered in amusement and Rebekah glared at her sister before she stares at the werewolf again, clearly annoyed by her stubbornness. Sophie rolls her eyes and sighs again, resigned to having Hayley, Khalia and Rebekah tag along.

After Rebekah called Klaus the four woman made their way to the Bayou. Currently, Sophie, Rebekah, Khalia and Hayley are walking around in the woods of the Bayou, looking for the dead bodies of the witches. Khalia was walking behind Hayley, watching both the woods for threats and the pregnant girl for her own piece of mind.
The woods, along with the girl was silent for the most of the walk, the witch glancing the three woman, who was accompanying her - she still wasn't very happy about it but what other choice did she have? Nothing at all. In the midst of walking, the werewolf glanced back at the brunette Mikaelson and didn't see the rock in front of her. So, she tripped. Hayley wrapped her arms around her stomach, ready to protect her baby above anything else. But the fall never came. Two hands caught her shoulders gently and she looked up - not really needing to because the fire that erupted in her was a dead give-away - her eyes locking with a pair of brown ones.
Khalia heard something colliding with something and looked up to see the werewolf falling. Her eyes widened before she sped in front of the werewolf girl, supporting her by the shoulders - fire erupting in her as well. She took a step back and looked the girl over, checking her for any injuries. Khalia's heart instantly became lighter when she found none. "You need to be more careful, sweetheart." The immortal brunette scolded in a playful tone with a serious streak in it.
"Okay." She whispered, her heart still beating widely and not from almost making acquaintance with the ground. Khalia turned her head and nodded in her sisters direction before taking the werewolf's hand in her own, lacing their fingers, and started walking again. Hayley grinned and her cheeks flushed as she looked at their joined hands. A sense of contentness passed over both the girls as they walked, hand-in-hand. Rebekah saw this and didn't bother to hide her smug grin while Sophie just looked on in confusion.
A silence took the girls over with a giddy Hayley walking next to the Original. "So, this Harvest thingy-" Rebekah started, breaking the peaceful silence. "-tell me more."
"Klaus said to wait." The witch retorted, making Khalia roll her eyes.
"Yes. He also said to stay out of the bayou and yet here we are, amongst the crawly, buzzy creatures." The blonde Original retorted, making the brunette immortal smirk.
"Yeah, and besides, since when do you listen to my brother?" Khalia asked the witch, turning to her with raised eyebrows. But before Sophie could say something, Khalia smelled the distinct smell of death.
"We're here." Hayley said, voicing what the brunette Mikaelson was thinking. The bodies are all bloodied and ripped apart, and a dismembered head lies near the bodies. Sophie, who looks sick, kneels down to dig around her bag for the ingredients she needs to consecrate her fellow witches while Khalia didn't look bothered. After all, both before and after Kol's death, she has done worse.
"Whoa." The werewolf said, obvious distaste in her tone.
"I've seen and done worse." Khalia said and waited for Hayley took look at her in disgust and take her hand back but it never happened. All she saw was curiosity in her amber orbs. Looking into the werewolf's eyes, Khalia forgot for a second how to breath. Eventually she broke eye contact with the girl, much to the disappointment of Hayley. The pregnant girl looked around and spotted a huge paw-print in the mud. In a nearby tree, there are three bloody scratches in the bark.
"Is that a wolf track?" Sophie asked and the immortal brunette rolled her eyes.
"No, someone took their dog for a morning stroll." The brunette Mikaelson stated sarcastically and the witch glared at her.
"Do you have to be a sarcastic bitch all the time?" She asked, annoyed with the craziest Mikaelson, who only smirked at her. It didn't bother her what Sophie said to her, but it bothered someone else. A loud growl erupted from Hayley's chest and her eyes shone a vibrant gold color.
"Don't call her that." The pregnant girl snarled at the witch and before the Deveraux girl could say something, the four woman heard the sound of crunching footsteps nearby. Khalia let go of Hayley's hand quickly and listened intently. She heard a heart beat and could tell it was a vampire but she couldn't pin point where the vampire was, it kept speeding around.
Rebekah suddenly calls out to the intruder. "Who's there?" Khalia barely resisted the urge to make a comment.
A male vampire suddenly approached them and Khalia narrowed her eyes. She didn't know who he was and she didn't want to know - he was one of Marcel's vampire and would out Hayley and the girl couldn't have that - and she let her veins grow out under her eyes, ready to attack and kill this vampire before he could get back to her brother's sire ling.
"What the hell? Two Originals?" He asked, clearly freaked out by their presence. He glanced Khalia and fear filled him. She didn't look like a vampire, she looked like a demon - just like Agnes said. He immediately runs away with vampire speed, leaving the girls standing and gaping in shock. Khalia was about to run after the vampire but a hand grasped her hand firmly.
"Please don't leave me alone." The werewolf pleaded. Khalia sighed but nodded and stayed with the trio. Hayley grinned happily and when the brunette vampire didn't let go of her hand, she didn't either.
"And what are we?" Rebekah asked in obvious offense, referring to the pregnant girl's statement about being alone. Hayley's cheeks flamed up and she looked around the forest. In an attempt to change the subject and that the attention away from the werewolf, Khalia said,
"You should call our brother and tell him about the vampire, Bex, cause I sure as hell aren't doing it."

Hours later Khalia and Hayley returned to the temporary Mikaelson mansion arguing. Khalia kept telling the pregnant girl that her baby wouldn't end up evil because it is not all Klaus' but half hers while Hayley believed what the Hybrid gene's will take over their baby and her will turn into an evil spawn. They then found Rebekah, who was pouring drinks. The eldest girl then said that she is going to get herself some blood bags and listened into Hayley and Rebekah's conversation from the kitchen.
"I don't care if we have to get you a leash, that was your last trip to the Bayou." Rebekah told the werewolf, who kept looking at the door, waiting for Khalia's return. Said vampire chuckled before biting open a blood bag and started drinking. She did agree with her sister though. "What is it with you and those wolves, anyway?
"I feel like we're connected somehow. I don't know. Maybe it's just some pipe dream that I have of finding any real family out there. But sometimes, when I feel like it's me against the world, it keeps me going." Khalia frowned at this as she drink the last of the blood bag. She grabbed a new one and sped to the room just in time to see Rebekah offering the pregnant girl a drink. Khalia raised her eyebrows at her sister as Hayley side-eyed the blonde, before stepping forward and grabbing the drink with her free hand and downing it in one gulp. The blue eyed girl rolled her eyes before pouring herself a glass and Khalia started drinking from the blood bag.
"Oh, right." Rebekah said in realization. "Well, if you ask me, family is a pain in the behind." The blonde said and Khalia and Hayley rolled their eyes in unison.
"But we love each other, even if we don't always like each other." The brunette vampire said after taking a big gulp of the blood. The blonde hummed in agreement with her sister's statement, it was perfect to describe each other.
"And as for being in it alone, how dare you? I don't ruin a perfectly fabulous pair of boots traipsing through the Bayou for just anyone." Rebekah told the werewolf and Hayley smiles, and Rebekah downs her second drink. The blonde gives Khalia a significant look that is screaming, 'say something'. She sighed and rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, what she said." Kol's twin said, pointing to Rebekah and the blonde barely resisted the urge to facepalm and Khalia just shrugged. She wasn't good with comforting people, or just feelings in general. Their conversation is interrupted by Klaus walking through the front door.
Rebekah is the first one to say something, "Nik, finally! What-" She cut herself of when Elijah walks through the door after his brother with a huge smile. Rebekah runs to Elijah and hugs him tight. Khalia catches her brother eye and the two grin at each other. She hadn't seen her brother since she left Mystic Falls after Kol's death and here she didn't get the chance because her Hybrid brother daggered him and the gave him to Marcel. Elijah breaks eye contact with his sister sees Hayley over Rebekah's shoulder, and they smile at each other.
A burning feeling soared through Khalia's chest and suddenly she wanted nothing more than to snap her brother's neck at the smiles that Hayley and he exchanged. She felt her veins itching to come to the surface and something inside of her wanted to challenge her brother. But all she did was clench and unclench her fists, hoping to stay in control. She also took a deep breath and looked away. Her bloodlust was rising and becoming more prominent. The vampire wanted, no, needed to kill something.
"Elijah! You're safe! Now that you're home, is your first plan to kill Niklaus?" She heard Rebekah say and normally she would have snickered and made a comment but right now she couldn't think clearly because of the burning feeling in her chest.
"I'm going out." She declared and started to walk to the front door. Her way was blocked by someone she really didn't want to talk to right now. She grit her teeth. "Get the fuck out of my way, Elijah."
"There is something we need to discuss. As a family." The suited man told his sister and she gave a careless shrug. Her control was quickly slipping and she needed to get out of the house and away from her brother and the werewolf that was making her lose her smile.
"Too bad." She deadpanned before her face set in a glare, "If it's that important, you can tell me tomorrow but right now I'm itching to kill something. Now, either you get the fuck out of my way, or you are going to be the thing that I kill." Elijah sighed but otherwise wisely kept his mouth shut and stepped out of his sister's way.
The girl sped off, the burning feeling still coursing in her. As soon as she was in town, she listened and the first person she found in an alleyway was a girl. She shrugged as she looked over the girl, sped to her and sank her teeth into the girls neck - quickly drinking her dry.
