Chapter 66
The Most Loving Marriage: Don't Be Too Bad, Mr President
Annabelle looked at him ambivalently through the window. His lonely figure amongst the crowded street painted a picture of melancholy in her heart.
Mu too, was staring at his back through the rear window, and his eyes were flickering with mixed emotions.
âIs he alone?â
Mu nodded.
âSeems like you visit frequently.â
âJust once in a while,â Mu paused momentarily and continued, âWhen I was little, Mr. Lee used to be our butler. After his son passed away, he seemed to have memory disorders. We wanted to take care of him but he insisted to come back here...â
Learning his past was like a heavy rock sunk into Annabelleâs heart.
âSo, he...â
âDementia, and he thinks Iâm his son.â Mu clarified.
Annabelle nodded sombrely. She felt downcast thinking about his heart-rending past, and how happy he was when he was spending time with Mu, or in this case, his son.
Today she got to know a different side of Mu.
âDo you always come here?â Annabelle suddenly turned to him and probed.
âFew times in a year.â
His answer was a shocker. Throughout their marriage Annabelle had never knew he did that. Maybe, she just didnât know him well enough.
Annabelle was submerged in her own thoughts. Suddenly she recalled that Mr. Lee had been very careful with an object in his hand.
âWhat was that he was holding so dearly?â She asked.
âIt was a pendant,â Mu replied slowly, and he was overcame in nostalgia, âFrom a necklace and it was the last thing he had left from his son!â
Annabelleâs gasped silently.
They came to look for a spark, a story. And this had been burdening to her heart.
After that, Annabelle didnât speak again during the car ride. She was still immersing in Mr. Leeâs life, his story and she didnât even realize that they had reached the city centre.
Mu kept his lips sealed too. He could tell that she needed some time to ponder and digest.
Not long after, his phone rang and broke the silence. Mu switched to hands free.
âHello.â
âMr. Mu, we got the information you requested!â
âYou got it!? Who is the organiser?â
âYes. Alexis Hera from Shaxmilan Corporation!â
Mu nodded avidly, âAlright noted, good job!â And he dropped the call.
Annabelle overheard his phone call and got wary, âIs this the organiser for SRD Competition?â
âYeah!â
âWhy do you need to investigate that? Are you thinking of...â She stared at him distrustfully.
âThe first rule of war and business is to know your enemy.â
âFallacy!â
âDo you think Iâm the only one digging up on them? I guarantee that every single participant has been trying every means possible to find out more on the organizer. Furthermore, itâs not like I did anything...yet!â Mu retorted.
He wasnât wrong, it was likely that others will try alternatives, or sidesteps to win the competition. But not her, Annabelle!
She stared ardently at Mu and vowed, âMr. Mu, have faith in me. I will definitely try my best! If you obstinately decide to use other underhanded method, then ask someone else to represent you!â Annabelle was dogged with her own principalities.
Whatâs the point of playing if winning with oneâs own strength isnât the goal? lightnoveldaily.com.
