Chapter 624
When His Eyes Opened
Avery was still happily chatting with Tammy. She did not notice bim walking over to her.
âAvery, are you nervous? Youâll be giving birth soon.â Tammy stirred the cup of juice in her hand with the
straw.
âIâm not nervous, but I really want it out. My tummy is getting big, itâs tiring.â Avery ate some dessert. She
asked, âWhat about you?â
âThe answer I gave my in-laws was next year. Iâll drag it until next year. I havenât had enough fun46 yet!â
âHaving kids wonât stop you from having fun.â
âIâm sure it will affect it somehow. I still like kids. Once I have one of my own, I wonât be able to be stern
enough to discipline them.â
âYou can take your kids around and play with them! Having kids will make things even more interesting.
You donât have to worry too much.â
âHmm! You gave me a lot of courage. Whether itâs caring for your kids or working. Youâre not afraid at
all,â Tammy said enviously, âIf I was a man, I would fall in love withcd you.â
Avery chuckled lightly. âIf you were a man, iâd marry you! Haha!â
Tammy laughed together with Avery when suddenly Elliot appeared within her sight. Tammyâs laugh
instantly vanished. She cleared her throat twice. âWhy is hege here?â
Avery looked in the direction in which Tammy was looking. When she saw Elliot, the smile on her face
vanished too.
âYou didnât invite him, right?â Tammy asked softly.
âNo,â Avery replied in a low voice.
âOhâ¦do I need to avoid him?â Tammy asked in whispers.
Avery replied, âNo need.â
At that moment, Elliot was already by their side, so he heard their conversation clearly.
He did not say anything. He merely looked at Averyâs head with his cold gaze.
Avery felt her scalp exploding with pain. She immediately got up from her chair and pulled him away.
âWho bullied you this morning?â Coming out of the hall, Elliot said, âIf I did not accidentally know about
this, you would never think of telling me.â
âItâs a small matter. Itâs not worth mentioning.â Avery brushed it off and looked at him.
A week before, he stood in front of her house under the sun for an entire day, causing his skin some
damage. His skin was darker by a shade. It also looked dry and flaky.
âWhy are you looking at me?â Elliotâs eyes moved. He looked a little uncomfortable.
âDo you have facial masks at home? Your face needs moisturizing,â Avery reminded him,â Next time,
donât spend too long under the sun, if not, youâll get a sunburn. Donât underestimate the UV rays of the
summer sun. If the sunburn is serious, you might need to go to the hospital.â
Elliot ignored her words. His long slender finger pried her hair apart. He saw her reddened scalp.
Avery gasped in pain and pushed his hand away.
âWho pulled your hair! Tell me!â Elliot asked sternly.
âItâs in the past. Thereâs no need to mention it.â Avery changed the subject to divert his attention. âLaylaâs
dream right now is to be a celebrity. She likes to perform in front of the camera, so I canât force her to
leave the entertainment industry.â
This topic easily diverted Elliotâs attention.
âHave you ignored me again!â Elliot was extremely dissatisfied with her parenting skills.
âElliot, I know what youâre worried about, but children need to be respected too. If you have a better way
of getting Layla to change her mind, I wonât stop you.â Avery did not want to fight with him, so her tone
was gentle. âIâll keep the card that you gave me. When you fall in love with another person, Iâll return it to
you.â
Elliot smiled bitterly and self-deprecatingly. âI donât think youâll see that day.â
âDonât be so sure.â Avery walked toward the lift. Elliot followed behind her.
He thought that she wanted to go home. Turns out, coming out of the hotel, she headed to the pharmacy
next door.
He thought that she was going to buy anti-inflammatory medication to put on her damaged scalp, but she
bought two medically used facial masks instead. She paid and passed the masks to him.
âTake this home and use it.â
âDo you think my face is the one thatâs hurt?â Elliot did not accept the bag. He left out the following
sentence, but Avery understood what he meant.
