Chapter 525
When His Eyes Opened
Elliot, Chad and Ben never left since they arrived that morning.
They had spent their time touring Tate Industries.
At least, that was their excuse. Their true motive was to stay for lunch.
âWanda Tate is a master of marketing,â Ben said with his phone in his hand. âShe hit a brick wall running
into us though.â
âEven so, their sales arenât bad,â Chad said. âThere is still huge potential in the lower-income market.â
âTheyâre selling their products for cheap, after all! Theyâre losing money to earn a good reputation. The
more they sell, the more money they lose⦠Their original plan was to quickly take over the market and
run Tate Industries out of business, then monopolize the market and raise their prices,â Ben said. âNow,
theyâve realized that Tate Industries isnât as easy to bring down as theyâd thought. Which is why theyâre
coming up with other ideas.â
âAre they cutting down costs? Or are they planning on conquering the lower and middle income markets
while continuing to make big promises to their investors, then get publicly listed?â Chad chimed in.
âAll of that. They still have plenty of investors who believe in them.â Ben laughed, then said,â Wanda Tate
really does have a knack for business.â
Avery was ordering dishes with the menu in her hands, but her ears were closely listening to their
conversation.
Elliot noticed her absentmindedness, then leaned in and whispered in her ear, âYou donât need to be
afraid of Wanda. She canât touch you.â
Averyâs cheeks flushed.
âIâm not afraid of her. Iâm trying to decide between getting orange juice or watermelonja juice.â
âGet one of each, then.â
âOkayâ¦â
Avery finished ordering, then handed the menu over to Elliot.
âYouâre over three months pregnant now, Avery. How are you feeling?â Ben asked, shifting the subject to
her.
âApart from the occasional nausea, I donât feel any differently.â
This pregnancy was more relaxed than her last.
âThatâs good. Do you only have a day-time nanny at home right now?â Ben asked. âShouldnât you hire a
live-in nanny later on in your pregnancy? Mike is a man, after all. It wouldnât be too convenient for him to
help out if anything happens to youâ¦â
Elliot glanced at Avery from the corner of his eye. She responded calmly, âIâm still a long way from the
late stages of my pregnancy. Iâll think about it later on.â
âHahaha! I donât know why youâre the one whoâs pregnant, but Iâm getting nervous. Itâs as if the baby
youâre carrying is mineâ¦â Ben teased with a chuckle.
âYouâll scare the boss if you say that, Ben. He doesnât want to have a baby with you!â Chad said.
Everyone burst into laughter, which immediately livened up the atmosphere.
Avery took advantage of everyoneâs good mood to ask a question.
âWhat are men most afraid of? Is it losing money, or being cheated on?â
âBeing cheated on!â Mike was the first to answer.
Chad nodded his head in agreement.
âI can accept getting dumped, but I canât accept getting cheated on,â Ben answered.
Avery did not turn to Elliot, because his answer would most likely be the same.
She wanted to find the time to tell him about Zoeâs infidelity, but she was hesitating now.
How could someone as proud as him handle that kind of bombshell?
On Wednesday, Avery contacted Zoe, who had just returned from her vacation.
The two met at a cafe.
Zoe glared at Avery resentfully.
âAre you here to show offâ¦â
Zoe began to speak, but Averyâs palm landed on her cheek in a hard slap!
âI know all about you and Cole. This slap is for the innocent child you murdered.â
Zoe held onto her cheek as her eyes widened dramatically!
How did Avery find out?
Who was the one who told her about it?!
âElliot⦠Heâ¦â Zoe stammered, unable to let out a complete sentence.
âHe doesnât know. Let this disgusting matter rot in your hearts!â Avery picked up a napkin and wiped her
hands. âIf he finds out, heâd send the both of you straight to hell!â
Zoeâs face was a look of absolute terror as she slumped back into her seat.
Avery walked out of the cafe and drove the car toward the Starry River Villa.
There was an express delivery from abroad that required her signature.
She wondered why there was a package when she did not purchase anything. She had no idea who
could have sent it, let alone what was in the package.
