Chapter 518
When His Eyes Opened
Elliot lowered his eyes to gaze at Laylaâs adorable, puffed-up cheeks, then corrected her,â How could you
call me by my full name like that? Thatâs not very polite.â
Layla let out a huff, then said, âItâs because youâre a bad man.â
âDid your mother say that?â EHiot asked with a calm face.
He was not upset. Layla was just a child. What did she know?
She only knew things that adults told her about.
âNo way! Mommy wouldnât say bad things behind someoneâs back!â
At this point, Layla was worried about snitching on her brother, so she cleverly changed the subject and
asked, âWhat are you making?â
âSweet barbecue ribs,â Elliot replied as he showed the marinated ribs to her.
âItâs your motherâs favorite. What do you want to eat? Iâll make it for you.â
Layla answered without hesitation, âI want chocolate! I also want meat! Could you hide some chocolate
in the meat for me? Whatever you do, donât let Mommy find out!â
Elliot thought about it, then said, âI can do that for you, but can you tell me what your brotherâs favorite
dish is?â
Laylaâs sparkling eyes rolled in their sockets as she said, âHayden likes vegetables, but he definitely
wonât eat it if you made it. Youâre the person he hates the most!â
Elliot had a feeling that he had to slowly make up for his past mistake.
Once Layla left the kitchen, Chad sighed and said, âThereâs no need for you to stoop this low, Sir.â
With Elliot washing Averyâs feet and cooking for her, Chad wondered if this was still the same boss he
knew.
If washing her feet was considered an act of passion between lovers, then what about cooking a meal?
âArenât you doing the same by cooking for Mike?â Elliot teased in a deep voice.
âThatâs different. I like cooking,â Chad said.
âI like cooking for Avery,â Elliot responded.
Chad was left speechless.
Elliot had won.
When lunch was served, Avery tried the sweet barbecue ribs that Elliot made for her. He had added too
much sugar, so it was very sweet.
âItâs a little too sweet,â she said softly to Elliot, giving him her opinion. Elliot tested a piece himself, and
found that it was, in fact, too sweet.
âI wonât add in as much sugar next time.â
Avery was stunned.
âNext time?â she thought. âThere was going to be a ânext time?â
She did not dare overthink things.
She saw Layla eating a lobster tail at the smaller table in the dining room, then called out,â Why are you
eating there by yourself, Layla?â
âI added some chocolate in her lobster,â Elliot explained. âSheâs afraid of you finding out.â
Avery frowned and said, âDid she ask you to add chocolate?â
âShe did. There were three lobster tails, but I only added a little piece of chocolate.â Elliot then leaned in
and said into her ear, âCut me some slack. Itâs rare for your daughter to be willing to eat my cooking.â
With those words, how could Avery not spare him his dignity?
After lunch, Elliot went into Averyâs room to rest.
He was at his limit after staying up all night.
Once Elliot went upstairs, Tammy suggested a game of poker. Mike and Ben immediately agreed.
Wesley did not like playing cards, but was forced to join in.
Avery sat behind Tammy and watched them play.
âAvery, I heard Elliot really went all out just to see you this time!â Tammy said.
âWhat do you mean?â Avery had not registered what Tammy was talking about yet.
âBen said Elliot made a huge donation to the Border Security Force just so he could see you.â Tammy
sighed, then said, âHeâs so generous with his money! This one meeting with you cost him millions!â
It was true that Elliot was something of a spendthrift. Otherwise, he would not have paid out as much as
three hundred million dollars to Zoe Sanford.
Avery felt frustrated every time she thought about this.
She despised Zoe, but she allowed her to make three hundred million dollars from doing absolutely
nothing!
If Elliot Foster was a foolish man, then Avery Tate was a foolish woman!
As Ben watched Averyâs cold expression and guessed her thoughts, he decided to smooth things over
and said, âThatâs where youâre wrong, Tammy. Money is nothing to Elliot. However, of all the years that
Iâve known him, Iâve never once seen him cook for someone, let aloneâ¦â
Avery was in a bad mood, so she cut Ben off and said, âGet on with your game. Iâm going to take a nap.â
