Chapter 210
When His Eyes Opened
Chapter 210 Averyâs chest tightened.
She could hear the nervous tremor in her own voice as she tried to stay calm.
âI see... What did the challenge entail?â
Elliotâs thick brows furrowed as he said with a chilling expression, âCome and strangle me,
you *sshole!â
Avery was speechless.
Ben did not know whether to laugh or cry.
âI suspect the hackerâs pretty young!â
âNot necessarily!â Avery said. âYou canât tell much from that one sentence!â
âAn adult probably wouldnât add in the term â*ssholeâ right? Other than in those old, corny soap operas, of
course.â
To prevent them from suspecting a minor, Avery looked at Ben and muttered, â*sshole,â then turned to
Elliot and once again said, â*sshole.â
Both Ben and Elliot sat in stunned silence.
âSee, thereâs nothing silly about the word!â Avery said. âAdults can easily use it, too.â
She was hard at work, trying to clear her sonâs name.
Her expression had unwittingly given her away.
Ben and Elliot exchanged glances for a moment as they came to the same conclusion.
âHow did you and Mike meet, Miss Tate? Itâs hard to imagine that you would know someone that special,â
Ben said, changing the subject to something more lighthearted. âAlso, it looks like heâs especially
obedient. He listens to your every word.â
Avery took a sip of water and made up an excuse.
âWe met at a networking event when I was studying abroad. Weâre friends, so thereâs no such thing as
obedience.â
âI see... Did he follow you to Aryadelle?â
âHe came because he felt like it, and heâll leave when he feels like it. Whatâs this about following me
around?â Avery said as she picked up a taco and placed it on her plate.
Mike was at Sterling Group trying to explain his intentions to the receptionist at the front
desk
âIâm sorry, but you need an appointment to see Mr. Rayner.â
âItâs lunchtime now,â Mike said.
âExactly! Itâs lunchtime, so you may make an appointment after lunch at two in the afternoon, â said the
receptionist.
âThatâs not what I mean... Elliot Foster and Ben Schaffer sent me to see him. Do you know who those
two are?â
The receptionist was taken aback.
How could she possibly not know who the president and chief financial officer were?
âOne moment, Sir. Iâll call Mr. Rayner and bring the matter to his attention.â
After a short phone call, the receptionist turned to Mike and said, âMr. Rayner doesnât want to see you.â
âI know he doesnât want to see me, but your boss told me to come here. Are you going to listen to him or
your boss? Just take me to where he is,â Mike said.
He was determined to see Chad because he was absolutely furious!
The receptionist hesitated for a moment, then led Mike to Chadâs office.
The moment Chad saw Mike, he began to seethe with anger.
Mike closed the door to Chadâs office behind him, then snapped coldly, âYou spy!â
Faced with Mikeâs chastising, Chad refused to back down.
âI admit, I had ulterior motives for getting close to you that night, but youââ
âItâs good that youâre admitting to that! Avery gave me an earful! She even made me come here to
apologize to you! Thereâs no way Iâm apologizing!â
Mike was infuriated, but he was still relatively level â headed.
âNothing wouldâve happened between us if you hadnât deliberately approached me, so donât act like the
victim here!â
âDelete my number!â Chad hissed through gritted teeth.
âMy pleasure!â Mike said as he pulled out his phone and deleted Chadâs number.
At the same time, Chad also got rid of Mikeâs number.
âLetâs never meet ever again! Even if I run into you, we should pretend like we donât know
each other,â said Chad.
âHa! iâd rather run into the devil than run into you!â Mike responded.
After a heated argument, the two men parted ways.
Mike walked out of Sterling Group, then entered a cafe nearby and ordered a cup of black coffee.
He then gave Hayden a call and said, âHey, Big H. Your mom knows about what you did. Iâve got my own
butt to worry about, so youâre on your own this time!â
âIt looks like Iâll have to bring the plan forward,â Hayden mumbled.
âI think so! I bet your momâs going to confiscate your laptop and give you a piece of her mind. Elliot
Foster gave her some trouble today, so Iâm guessing sheâs in a terrible mood! Shouldnât you just run
away from home?â suggested Mike. âIâd rather get a beating than break Mommyâs heart,â said Hayden.
