Chapter 118
When His Eyes Opened
Chapter 118 Soon after, Elliot opened his eyes and blew out the candles on the cake.
The curtains were pulled back, and light flooded the room once more.
âWhat did you wish for, Elliot?â Ben asked with a grin.
âDo you always reveal your birthday wishes to people?â Elliot countered.
The room burst into laughter.
Elliot cut a slice of cake and placed it in front of Avery.
âYou should eat the first slice,â Avery said as she pushed the cake back to him.
âI canât eat that much,â Elliot replied.
He picked up a fork, took a bite out of the slice, and pushed it back to Avery.
It was as if they were immersed in their own world, separate from the rest of the room.
The crowd began to roar and make fun of them.
âShould we start calling Miss Tate Mrs. Foster now?â
âWhy donât you give it a try? I donât think the boss would mind!â
âHahaha! Miss Tate wouldnât mind either, right?â
Avery was so embarrassed and uncomfortable that her ears and the back of her neck turned red.
âQuit it, all of you,â Elliot ordered.
âSure, sure⦠Letâs eat cake!â
The cake was moved to the other side of the table, sliced up, and distributed.
Once they were done with the cake, lunch officially began.
â¢âWould you like some wine, Miss Tate?â Ben asked as he held up a bottle of wine.
Avery shook her head and said, âWater is good enough for me.â
âWe canât have that! What about juice or a glass of milk?â
âWater is fine.â
Avery felt a little dizzy.
It was likely due to the fact that she had woken up too early that morning.
On top of that, since everyone else was drinking, the faint scent of alcohol permeated the entire room.
After Ben poured Avery a glass of water, he noticed that she was not eating.
âAre you feeling uncomfortable, Miss Tate? Thereâs no need for that. Everyone here has known Elliot
for a long time. Weâre like a band of brothers!â Ben said in an attempt to help Avery relax.
Avery lifted her heavy eyelids and said truthfully, âThatâs not it. Iâm just feeling a little tired after all of
that cake.â
Ben shot to his feet and said warmly, âIâll take you to the guest room to rest.â
Elliot placed his hand on top of hers that was resting on the table, stared straight at Ben, and said, âIâll
take her.â
Someone yanked Ben away and dropped him back in his seat.
Ben was a mess of laughter and tears. âDonât forget to come back! I still plan on having a drink with
you, Elliot!â
Avery withdrew her hand from Elliotâs warm grasp and said, âThe waiter can take me. You stay and
eat.â
âIâll take you,â Elliot insisted in an especially stubborn tone.
Avery felt that there was something different about him after the accident.
She used to despise his domineering and obsessive behavior, but she now found herself unable to
refuse him.
She knew that no matter how bad he looked, he would never hurt her.
Avery wheeled Elliot out the door, and the two quickly disappeared from the room.
âWho wouldâve thought that the boss could be so caring toward a woman? I always thought that he had
no interest in women at all!â
âHe just never met the right woman before this. Avery Tateâs got him wrapped around her finger!â
âAre you sure it isnât the other way around? Why would she knit him a sweater otherwise? I doubt many
women are willing to do that nowadays.â
âWhat are you guys going on about?â Ben exclaimed, interrupting the heated debate. âTheyâre hooked
on each other. I bet Elliotâs developed feelings for Avery, and Averyâs started to pay more attention to
him, too⦠If Avery decided to be a little more selfish, Tate Industries wouldn ât have gone bankrupt.
Elliot wanted to give her three hundred million dollars to help, but she
rejected it. Would any of you be able to refuse that amount of money?â
Everyone shook their heads violently.
âNo wonder the boss likes her so much. He might never find another woman who treats money like itâs
nothing but sh*t!â
âWatch your mouth! What are you doing talking about sh*t while weâre eating?!â
âHahaha! Letâs bet on whether or not Elliotâs coming back to lunch,â Ben proposed. âI bet he wonât!â
The rest of the room agreed and said, âI bet the same.â How were they supposed to carry on with a bet
like this?
