Isha entered the kitchen while yawning. "Good morning chachi!"
"Good morning beta!" Avni greeted back while smiling as she boils the tea.
"Aaj aap mandir jaane wale ho?" Isha asked while sitting on the kitchen counter. "Yes, I am going. Why?"
"Main bhi aau aapke sath?" Isha requested with a innocent smile. "Please."
"Usme kya please, of course chalo." Avni replied.
"Toh main jaldi se ready hoke aati hu." Isha stood on her feet and hurriedly ran into her room. "Beta Chai toh pite ja." Avni called from behind.
After a while, When Isha finished getting ready, she emerged from her room wearing a reddish-pink Kurti with white flare, her hair done in loose braid and her ears, neck and wrist adorned with silver jewelry. "Chachi chaliyee." Isha said.
Avni smiled warmly seeing her dressed in
"Are we going to by car or auto?" Isha asked catching up with Avni. "Beta we are going by walking. Mandir is at 15 minutes of walk." Avni laughed.
"Ikshan aur Karan dono ke dono abhi tak so rahe hain." Avni said shaking her head. "Of course, they will sleep. Yesterday night they both were busy playing games till 3 am." Isha blurted out without knowing that Avni didn't knew that they both were awake playing game.
"Voh dono der raat tak jaag rahe the?" Isha nodded. "Uthne do un dono ko, dono ki khabar leti hu." Avni flared her nose, as she wore her chappal.
They left the house heading to temple. On their way, Isha's eyes fell on some street dogs wandering here and there. She hugged her aunt to stop her from walking and asked. "Hum koi dusre raste se nahi ja sakhte?"
Avni chuckled and slapped her hand. "Kitni badi ho gayi hain fir bhi kutto se dar rahi hain."
Isha pleaded her to take a different route. "You do know that street dogs are everywhere. Even If we take different route dogs will be there too." Isha yet wasn't convince to go from the road. "And there is no other route. Are you seeing the temple over there." Avni pointed at a distance and Isha nodded. "We have to go there. Don't worry, they won't do anything. Main hu na, mera hath pakad le."
Isha hesitated but nodded and held Avni's hand. Avni started walking slowing but Isha stayed at her place, scared to move. Avni tugged her hand and gave her a reassured smile.
Isha took a small steps. Two dogs started coming in their way. "Chachi voh idhar aa rahe hain." She cried out.
A shopkeeper from nearby store saw her fearing and shooed the dogs away by giving them food. When the dogs got busy in eating, Isha ran towards the temple dragging Avni behind. "Beta dheere."
Isha sighed in relief when they reached the temple's entrance. Her heart still racing. They removed their footwears and stepped inside the temple. While walking, Isha caught a familiar figure roaming. "Chachi aap jahiye, main abhi aayi." Isha said.
"Kya hua?" Avni asked, her eyes confused.
"Kuch nahi. Aap jahiye." Avni nodded and walked ahead, leaving her behind. Isha's eyes were fixed the person, her heart racing with anticipation. As she watched, the person turned around, and their eyes met.
Isha's face broke into a wide smile as she rushed. Her feet moving quickly against the temple's floor. "Krish!" She exclaimed, her voice full of excitement.
Krish's face lit up with a warm smile as he waved his arms. "Isha! Tum idhar?"
"Kyu? Main aa nahi sakhti?" Isha teased him by narrowing her eyes. "Of course, tum aa sakhti ho." Krish said. "It just ki I seeing you here for the first time."
"Haan, voh toh chachi aa rahi thi toh main bhi aa gayi. Aap idhar roj aate hain?" Isha asked curiously.
"Nahi, roj nahi. Par Har Wednesday ko aata hu." Krish answered, smiling warmly. Now, I will also come every Wednesday. Isha thought.
"Ohh nice. So aap ja rahe ho...? Isha asked hoping he will stay a bit more. "Nahi main abhi aaya, bhagwan ke Darshan karne ja hi raha tha ki aap ke darshan ho gaye." Krish replied while laughing, as Isha's cheek flushed.
"Chalo toh fir sath mein hi chalte hain." Isha grinned. They headed towards the religious figure. They closed their eyes and joined their hands to pray.
While praying Krish opened his one eye and took a sneak peek at Isha who was still praying. He smiled and again closed eyes. Thank you Krishna ji! Aapne Isha ko wapas idhar bulaliya.
After praying they moved from their spot, taking the God's blessings. Suddenly Isha exclaimed, "Look the birds!!" She pointed toward the area where colourful birds were kept.
A sudden feeling of déjà vu took over them when their eyes meet. Isha broke the eye contact, shaking off the feeling inside her and dragging him toward the bird's area.
"They are still here." She whispered but her words were loud and clear to Krish as a strange feeling crept inside him. Still here.
They took the food for the birds and started feeding them while laughing and talking. When a sudden voice approached them. "Isha! There you are. I was looking for you everywhere."
They both turned around and saw Avni walking towards them. "Krish Beta! Tum idhar." She said with a soft and gentle smile.
"Chachi! Look birds!" Isha tugged Avni's hand. "They are so pretty."
"You remember I used to bring you here when you were little. You used to meet that one friend of yours and used to feed birds with him." Avni said, recalling the memories as the birds chirp in background. "What was his name? You never told me his name and I never met him too. You would play with him then come to me and tell me the whole story."
Isha was taken aback by Avni's words. "I... I don't remember his name and how he looked." She whispered while lying. She remembered everything very well but not wanting to say it infront of Krish as for her Krish doesn't remembered her. "Mujhe voh itna acche se yaad nahi."
Hearing her words, Krish's smile fell and felt a pang of disappointment over him. He forced a smile and said, "You used to come over here? I also used to come here and used to play with a friend of mine."
"Maybe you both used to play with each other." Avni joked. "It would be such a good coincidence then. I would say Krishna ji wants you both together."
"Maybe." They both whispered at the same time while locking their eyes.
"Isha Beta, let's go home now." Avni said looking at the clock. "Your brothers must still be sleeping."
She nodded. "Bye... Krish." Isha waved her hands with a soft smile. Isha and Avni walked towards the exit when Krish whispered. "Bye."
"Chachi abhi koi dusre raste se ghar jaenge. Voh kutte wale raste se nahi." Isha said while pouting as Avni laughed.
Meanwhile, Krish stood at his place with some complicated feelings inside him. Disappointed, relief, happy and confused, all mixed together. He couldn't understand why Isha's words affected him deeply. A felt a pang of disappointment when she said she doesn't remembered her childhood friend very well when he did remembered her very well.
________
"Pulav is ready." Kritika said, opening the cooker as Laksh and Yash surrounded her. The smell of pulav with mixed vegetables filled the air.
"It looks so yummy." Laksh exclaimed. "Can't wait to eat it."
"Thoda ruk jao." Kritika said. "Isse abhi thoda thanda hone do abhi bohot garam hain."
"Yash bhaiya, aap toh dheere dheere chef bante ja rahe hain." Laksh complimented Yash's cooking skills.
Kritika laughed and said, "True, aap ko puri recipe yaad thi aur aapne meri help liye bina banaya."
Yash shyly rubbed the nape of his neck. "Thank you."
There conversation were interrupted by the sound of the door bell. Kritika gave a confused look to Yash and Laksh when Yash signaled his younger brother to get the door.
As Laksh left. Yash thanked Kritika in meantime. "Thank you so much Kritika. I would have never learned this kuch without you."
Kritika smiled warmly. "No thank you no sorry bhaiya." Her words made Yash chuckled.
Laksh came back shouting. "Bhaiya, wapas." He had a box in his hands and a note stick on it. "Let's see aaj kya hain." Laksh placed the box on the kitchen counter and sat on the chair infront of it.
"Who sent it?" Kritika asked as her eyes scan the box and Yash took the sticky note from on it.
"We also don't know who sent it. Yash bhaiya is getting such box with food inside past 1 year." Laksh explained while opening it.
"Anyway bhaiya what is written on it?" Laksh asked when he saw Yash ready it. Yash quickly put it inside the pocket of his pant and said, "Kuch nahi. Kya hain ander?"
"Wait." Laksh opened the lid of the box and the sweet smell of cream and chocolate filled the air. Cupcakes, they were Cupcakes.
Kritika eyes narrowed when she looked at Cupcakes. "Yeh toh..." She pointed at the dessert in front of her but when Yash and Laksh looked at her, she quickly put her finger down and covered her expression.
"Kuch kaha tumne?" Yash raised his eyebrows. Kritika shook her head still in disbelief.
"You really don't know who is sending you this." Yash nodded. "But you are still accepting it. Why? What if something is mixed inside?" She asked.
"Because... Because I know ki that person mean no harm to me and they have said they will reveal themselves soon." Yash said, his voice low. "Why? Why what happened?" Kritika shook her head. "Kuch nahi."
Laksh offered the cupcake to her which she gladly accepted. The taste of Cupcake melt in her mouth, her eyes widened. This taste so similar to it, wait not similar but same. Ek dum same.
"Didi kya hua? Aap itni shock kyu dikh rahe ho?" Laksh asked.
"It's so good." She plastered a fake smile.
"Wese didi aap ne kal kuch banaya tha uska aap photo dikhane wale the. Dikhao na." Laksh request, his voice muffled as he chew the sweet dish.
"Haan. Voh actually mere phone mein battery kaam hain. Kabhi aur dikhaungi." She gave a excuse.
Yash furrowed his brows as he remember, when he looked at her phone a while ago, the phone battery was full. Why was she lying?
________
"Oyee chhoti bacchi." The boy said looking at the little girl who was busy eating prasad from the dish.
She looked up with her big eyes. "Aap idhar. I looked for you that day where did you went? My parents wanted to thank you." She said with her mouth full of prasad.
Ignoring her question, he narrowed his eyes at her and asked. "Tum kya kar rahi ho? Prasad sabke liye hain sirf tumhare liye nahi." He went to take the dish of prasad from her hand but she quickly pulled the plate closer and turned in different direction, blocking him from taking it.
"Krishna, khane do usse." The priest sitting said with a smile as he patted the girl's head and she stuck her tongue out.
She turned towards the priest and asked, "Why are you calling him Krishna? Krishna is him." She pointed towards the blue religious figure who had a flute in his hands and a peacock feather on his head.
"Beta, he is also Krishna."
"Nooo. Krishna is only him not this boy." She complained.
"Mera naam Krishna hain, main Krishna nahi hu." He said. "Wese tumhara naam kya hain?"
"Ishanvi."
"Ishu, I will call you Ishu." He said with a small smile. "Did you prayed to God?"
She shook her head and said, "I only come here to eat prasad, Krish."
He hit himself on his head at her stupidity. "In temple, we come here to pray not only to eat prasad. Come here." He tugged her arm, making her stood on her feet and put the dish aside.
"Close your eyes and join your hands like this." He demonstrated her by joining his hands. "And pray."
"What should I pray for?" She asked innocently.
"Pray for something that you want." He answered.
"Dear my Krishna, I want to be happy and want my parents to be happy too." She prayed aloud in front of the holy figure. "And I want alots of food."
Krish facepalmed himself. "You don't have to say it aloud. Say it in your mind."
After a while, they started roaming here and there when Isha exclaimed. "Look the birds!" She dragged Krish with her. "They are so pretty."
"Yeah they are but don't drag me like this." He said acting all Grumpy.
"Let's feed them." They went to seller who was selling food for the birds. They took the food and started feeding them.
"Krish!!" A voice called making Krish panicked. "Mujhe jana hoga. Byee." He left from rushing towards a figure which was bigger than him.
"Isha." She looked at her aunt. "Kya kar rahi ho idhar?"
"Chachi I met that boy who helped that day." She said, her eyes looking at the same place where he was standing before but not anymore.
"Accha. You will meet next time. Let's go now." Her aunt picked Isha up in her arms and left from the temple as Isha tells her what happened in the temple.
