Chapter 9

Josh

It was now 10:30 a.m. and true to his word Zeak came back in to check on me.

" do you feel any better?" Zeak asked as he checked my IV bag. I was currently holding Sam up where he could stand up on my thighs.

" much better actually. I'm not sure why but I had a great night sleep. I thought sleeping for 3 months was enough but I guess not. " I chuckled looking at Sam still.

" honestly I never understood that part either" he said as he sat on the edge of the bed.

I watched as he stared down at his hands for almost five minutes.

"What are you thinking about" I asked softly while b putting one of my hands on his.

" I'm so sorry Josh" he said looking at me with tears in his green eyes. " I want you to know I never wanted to hurt you. You are the greatest thing that has happened to me. It really doesn't matter anymore because you have a beautiful family that loves you and I can see how much you love your son and I just I'm so stupid" he said with a few tears running down.

"Zeak stop." I said quietly. " you are right. I do have a beautiful family, but Sammy isn't my son and Hensley isn't my wife or girlfriend. Sam is Hensley's baby. He's my godson and she's my best friend. If it wasn't for her and God only knows where I would be. We met senior year apparently he's always at the same school as us. I was dying that year. I've never been without you before and she save me. She even helped me look for a while. The point is, you are the only one I've ever wanted. A lot has happened in the last 10 years but my love for you hasn't changed it all Ezekiel" I said never taking my eyes off of his. Sam started to get a little ansy again and wouldn't be still.

"Ca-can I hold him" Zeak asked shyly.

"Of course" I said handing Sam over to him.

"I'm sorry I thought you and Hensley were together. Like he said a lot has changed since then. How long have you lived here in the city?" he asked bouncing Sam on his hip.

" about 5 years. It was right after Law School. Then after my dad died I moved my mom right outside the city it's hard for her at first but now she seems to like it. " I answered.

"Your dad died?" he said with a sorrowful look.

" yeah about 2 years ago. Hensley tried everything she could but she couldn't save him. His heart attack was just so massive she said it was fast and not that painful for him. She even walked my mom through everything to explain it to her and give her understanding."

"I'm so sorry Josh. So Hensley is a doctor to then huh?" he stated while looking down at Sammy. I always pictured him looking at our baby that way.

" yeah she works in Pediatrics" I smiled at him. "How long have you been here?"

"Well, about 24 hours" he said looking down at his watch and laughing.

"Oh, well where are you staying at?" I asked.

"Well the hospital booked me a hotel room until Friday so I guess tomorrow I will go house hunting. This hospital just offered me position head of their trama department 3 days ago. I figured why not And started to pack some stuff but I got a call yesterday saying they needed me right away so my roomate is packing the rest and sending it to me. I guess I really didn't think it all the way through" he said blushing. Ugh doesn't he know that sends me over the edge when he does that.

" don't take this the wrong way but you can come stay with me. My house is plenty big enough and I definitely wouldn't mind the company. You don't have to decide now I'm just letting you know that the offer still stands if you want it" I couldn't help but smile back when he smiled at me

" thank you Josh let me think about it for tonight and I'll let you know tomorrow. And I also came by to give you your discharge papers, you're free to go. If you want I can give you a ride since you know your car has been here." He said handing me the papers

" but I have Sam and I don't have a car seat" I answered.

" don't worry I'll just borrow one from here and bring it back. You'll take him again for a second I'll go get your clothes that Hensley brought for you" he said giving me Sam back and going to get my clothes from the closet for me.

He dropped me off at my house and said goodnight. I really do hope he will take my offer even though we aren't together, I'd rather be able to see him some way then not at all.
