Chapter 117 - Love Is Enough
The Mafia's Crybaby Wife
She went back backstage to change her clothes and put on her makeup.
Lu Anâan was by no means ugly, but with her makeup, she blossomed pure and innocent like a lotus.
Afterwards, Lu Anâan waited backstage.
Gu Anning stood next to her.
She smirked proudly, a look bordering on arrogance trained at her competition.
Gu Anning had opted for a more aggressive makeup regime, sporting dark eyeliner and smoky highlights, bringing out her sharp features.
âLu Anâan, who do you think will win today?â
Lu Anâan smiled lightly, âWhat do you think?â
Gu Anning sneered, âI think youâll lose miserably.â
âI admire your confidence.â
âIf I werenât confident in my victory, why would I be standing here today?â Gu Anning said. In a sickly sweet voice, she offered Lu Anâan advice, âIf I were you, I would withdraw from the competition ahead of time to avoid embarrassing myself later.â
âWhether or not Iâll be embarrassed has yet to be decided. We will only know when the results are released.â Lu Anâan smiled, politely deflecting Gu Anningâs taunt.
â
In the studio, the audience seats were full.
Yan Yunge deliberately found a seat in the last row to sit down.
Han Ziyuan saw him sitting there and immediately sidled up next to him. âBrother Yan, why didnât you tell me you would be coming?â
âNothing much. I was passing by and decided to take a look.â
âDid you come to take a look or to see me?â Han Ziyuan quipped coquettishly.
A slight frown appeared on Yan Yungeâs face. âHan Ziyuan, we need to talk. There are some things I need to set straight,â he began, commandeering Han Ziyuanâs attention.
âBrother Yan, what do you need to say to me?â Han Ziyuan regarded him expectantly, feigning confusion. âWe grew up together. Is there anything you donât know? Or... do you have some secret youâd like to tell me?
âThis isnât a good place to talk. Come with me.â
Han Ziyuan followed Yan Yunge out of the studio and into the reception area.
âBrother Yan,â Han Ziyuan reached out only for Yan Yunge to stop her. âThatâs far enough. It isnât a good idea to be so close.â
Han Ziyuanâs expression changed. âBrother Yan, whatâs wrong?â She asked.
âHan Ziyuan, weâve known each other for many years.â
âYes,â Han Ziyuan agreed. Just as she was about to close the distance between them, Yan Yungeâs subsequent words caused her to freeze.
âYou should know how I see you. Iâve never liked you romantically.ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âWhat are you talking about?â Han Ziyuan flushed, deeply embarrassed by the topic of discussion.
Composing herself, she smiled, but it was fragile, lacking its usual vibrance. âIt doesnât matter if youâve never seen me in a romantic light. Whatâs important is that we are the most compatible, arenât we?â
âI may have thought so before I met Lu Anâan, but since then, much has changed. Iâm sorry. I love Lu Anâan,â Yan Yunge answered with absolute certainty.
âHan Ziyuan, Iâve never loved you. I may like you and see you as a sister, but I donât love you, not in a romantic way. I apologise if my past actions caused you to have other thoughts.â
âYan Yunge, what do you mean?â Han Ziyuan changed her form of address. The look she pinned him with could have frozen hell over. âAre you trying to draw a line between us?â
âYou should know that I only see you as my childhood friend. Nothing more.â Yan Yungeâs voice sank as he broke the harsh truth.
âLu Anâan. Lu Anâan! Itâs all that womanâs fault! Sheâs poisoned you against me! Is that why youâre drawing a line between us?â Han Ziyuan was so angry her whole body trembled. âWhatâs so good about that woman, Lu Anâan? Why do you always side with her? I grew up with you, not her. Iâm the one who knows you best. What does she know about you? Nothing!â
âShe loves me,â Yan Yunge answered simply, âAnd I love her. Thatâs enough.â
