~Chapter 9: A List of Things I'd like to Avoid

Winter Fire *under editing and improvement*

Quick A/N: okay I know this whole story so far has been an emotional rollercoaster...at least for me...but I promise it'll make sense soon. Enjoy!

3rd Person POV

Vimen sighed as he looked at his watch, it seemed all he was doing was sighing lately. He looked over to the young demon he took in a few months ago. He flipped his life 450 degrees since they met.  He sat back against the cold leather of his car as he drove, thinking about a lot of things.

How had his life turned out like this. Ever since the death of his mate 70 years ago he believed all that was left for him to die. His sister created the "resistance" after she found out young humans were being killed by a male black widow. She drug him into it and he somehow ended up doing that instead of ending what was left of his miserable life.

He gripped the steering wheel as he thought back to the night he met Reese; when Petri brought him to the meeting place , he felt a feeling he never thought he would feel again...absolute and complete despair. He looked at the busted head of the young man, at first feeling nothing but pity. But as he picked him up a painful strike shot through his body. Instantly...dread  filled him like an ice cold shower.  Before he even got to meet him ; his second chance mate was dying. Without really thinking as he soothed the young boy trying to think of ways for him to not meet his end before his life even really started.

So he did the first thing he thought of, he sired the boy to him. It was stupid but it was the easiest way at the time.

Vimen sighed again, then a chuckle took his attention away from his whitened knuckles wrapped around the steering wheel.

He looked at Reese, a smile plastered on his face.

"You're sighing like an old man Vimen" he chuckled as he pushed a stray hair behind his ear. Vimen shook his head, he was surprised how easily he was adjusting to his demonic body, "I AM an old man after all" he scoffed lightly.

"Really ? How old?" His ever curious mate asked.

Vimen looked him dead in the face, "90".

"You're joking right?" Reese said full of disbelief. "Demons age slowly" Vimen said plainly.

" :0"

Vimen smiled, though he was sighing more he was smiling more as well and it didn't get unnoticed. Then his face became serious, "Reese I need to tell you something".

Reese looked at Vimen and nodded, "okay go"

Vimen pulled his hand over his face, "just promise you won't hate me".

"I promise"

"You're my mate" Vimen said as he lowered his head.

"Are you joking?" Reese laughed back.

"No Reese, you are my second chance mate"

Silence filled the vehicle as tension thickened like chilling jello.  Then Vimen spoke again...

"Me"
